This isn’t meant to be mean, but have you ever won anything of athletic significance at a high level? Or been a part of a team that was close? Trying to understand where the confidence in your perspective is coming from Also, are you or are you not afraid to play Duke? You’re coming across like you think it’s a forgone conclusion we would lose, despite not knowing half the variables that will be in play in 8 months... Spent 20 years covering an NHL team as a reporter. Been around high level professional athletes for a long time. I’d love to play Duke. No problem with our kids being confident about playing anyone or thinking they can beat them. I just don’t think a player who hasn’t even stepped on campus yet or even practiced with the team has earned the right to be talking junk about the top team in the country. Guess that’s just the hockey player mentality in me...rookies keep their head down, defer to the vets, don’t run their mouths and certainly don’t chirp the better teams. Okay - fair. Did you ever notice a correlation between the teams who thought they could beat anyone (confidence) and the ones who’s actually did? (And conversely teams who went into games not expecting to win?) And that’s a fair point I would argue though if that’s the standard then nobody on this team has really “earned” the right to say much YET. But I also don’t think “top teams” deserve the respect of the Golden state Warriors, especially when we’ve beaten [Duke] plenty. I generally agree with you vis a vis practicing caution as a newbie, but Galen already has good relationships with people in our program, but even more so he’s actually a grown man. That’s the one thing about college sports that is so cool, maturity/experience can be a great equalizer. The gap in poise between an upperclassman and a freshman is often significant, and i guess I just see Galen’s comment as him recognizing that we could be more vocal as a squad and that even as a newcomer, his age necessarily puts him in a position where he can lead. Say all that to say it seems like a grown ass man saying he’s gonna beat Duke, as opposed to an 18 year old freshman who hasn’t played past high school. I know JUCO isn’t he NBA, but some of these teams have more pure talent than some of these mid majors we never stop hearing about anymore. I would more understand if you pointed to his personality/judgment to cautioning him pumpkin the brakes, but like I said I don’t think he’s your typical newcomers and we shouldn’t expect him to be. Honestly, if Jagan wasn’t on this team I’d pencil him in as a starter. And i still think there’s a non-zero chance we could roll out Akinjo, Mosley, Alexander, LeBlanc, Yurt7. Still very far away to tell.

Deleted - off topic and board rules violation for suggesting potential transfer of current player.

I don’t understand, what are his personal goals? Winning BE FOY? I think that ship sailed and I’m sure his ankle didn’t do him any favors. Does he want to be a starting PG? If so unfortunately dude picked the wrong time to be a Hoya. I mean, he’s likely going to be out leading scorer next year at 16+ pts. If he learns to value possessions that’ll be icin on the cake. I’m a huge fan of Mac and don’t want to sound harsh but aside from that I only see team goals and those are all he should be focused on, or else he won’t achieve any of his individual goals. None of the players on the roster are good enough for that. It’s all about winning. Everybody loves a winner. Winners get paid. Also: defense. Gotta make that MU leap.

Oh please please please ignore the Mac cult leader and keep the topic on Galen here. The other thread on his was already closed when it went off-topic.
Welcome Galen. Love the confidence and attitude. Hope the entire team takes on that persona next year.

Reminds me a little of Danuel House a bit, anyone else see that? At least from when we were recruiting him.

Still very far away to tell. Hockey players mentality is different. They aren’t me first ( for the most part ) type athletes. They can be confident and sometimes boast, but very few are cocky. Not saying this kid Alexander is but comments like that can be construed as such. You would never see a rookie or draft pick lipping off about anyone let alone the perceived top team. Kids know better; not because they’d be worried about the other team. They know that wouldn’t be received well at all in his dressing room amongst his teammates. Anyways enough said on the matter. I hope Alexander comes in and rocks and helps lead the program to the promise land.

No joke. You’re a nobody juco who hasn’t stepped foot on campus and you’re running your mouth about the best team in the country who may or may not decide to give us a game. You may think it’s refreshing but anyone outside or a few Hoya fans will laugh at this. Bet coach tells him to pipe down. Hoyas haven’t earned the right to talk junk. He did pick them to win it all this year, though. That's not disrespectful, as I see it.

You said it yourself iD, hockey guys are different. They are easily the most respectful and “normal” of any of the major sport guys out there. Honestly, they are like stepping back three decades in time relative to all kids. Basketball guys are on the extreme opposite end of the spectrum in terms of bravado. As for Alexander, he sounds more excited than chirpy to me, but I appreciate your point. Honestly, I just hope the dog bites like he barks.

He was asked about Duke. It’s not like he called them out specifically. After a couple weeks of media training, his quote comes out as “we’re a talented team and I think we have the potential to beat anyone at anytime” which is a slightly more polished way of saying “we’re gonna dub them.”

So WHEN (not if😉) we beat Duke next year we have to credit it to the confidence instilled by Galen's social media response!
