With Yurtseven as limited as he was, Texas could have killed us. They didn't because the whole team played well but in large part because Q played really, really well. Without his contribution I don't see us winning this game. And for a way-under-the-radar freshman, that's impressive. Some might say we have......depth (ducks) Pickett was actually chosen as player of the game as well. Don't get me wrong, Wahab did an excellent job filling in for Yurt. Pickett had the all-around game.

Wahab was easily player of the game.
We had other guys who played well - Mac, Jamorko, James - but NOBODY could've predicted 20 minutes that solid from Qudus against that front line.
Still in shock. Tremendous game.

Tremendous game. There were a handful of guys who could have qualified for player of the game last night and Q was definitely one of them. It was great to see him step up. It also showed that the team does not really need to run any plays for him or force him the ball in the post at this point. If he plays all year the way he did last night, and runs the floor and crashes the offensive glass and rolls to the open spaces on the PnR he will get 6 -12 points a game from just that effort. Similar to the way LeBlanc played last year when he scored most of his points off effort plays. Q's defense in the post was great and he gives a real physical presence that helps the entire team.

Agree. The biggest risk with Q is his forcing his shot. His shots will come. Even if we feed the post and he just delivers it back to the perimeter, it will be a positive.

Thought he was decent in the first few games of the season, but his play in NYC really impressed me. Excited to see what he becomes in the next 2-3 seasons

With a couple of offseasons in the weight room and with take out from The Tombs, he should be a monster.

Kudos to Qudus for rising to the challenge. He did a great job in NYC. Keep it up!

9 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block in 19 minutes
When he's good, he's really good. Showing a lot of promise and upside. Just gotta keep developing, keep working out, and work on staying out of foul trouble

He's definitely going to be a good one. He getting use tp the BEast physicality & the game is starting to slow down.
Next year will be the beginning of something great!

I also like Qudus and am looking forward to watching his progression. I think he'll be a force for the Hoyas soon but he's a freshman and there will be peaks and valleys. Played well last night vs Xavier but wasn't good the preceding two games. He just needs time and I agree next year will be fun to watch.

It might have been worth taking a shot at playing Wahab and Yurt together for a bit last night. Xavier won the game on the boards by playing 1 guard, 3 forwards, and a center. Wahab could have guarded Freemantle, he was not a real threat to beat him badly off the dribble. This might have helped sure up the rebounding problems. Yurt had some foul trouble, and we probably could not have played them together for a large chunk of the game. But I think Wahab would have been worth trying at the 4 once it quickly became apparent that Xavier was going to try to bludgeon us with a size advantage
It would also have helped if we had covered the one guy on their team who can shoot a 3, but that is an entirely different discussion.

He is a good one and will be a force in the future with hard work. I think he can be a 4/5 combo and is pretty darn mobile. He moves very well for a guy that powerful.

Wahab has become very impactful. Love his energy, his relentless pursuit of the ball. He also has a knack for putting the ball in the basket. He doesn't get bullied. There's no question that he's proven to me to be, at times, a better matchup than Yurtseven against certain teams. That's not saying that he's better than YS, he's not. I also agree that a combo of YS and Wahab may have helped last night. For all we know, it may have been in the coaches' thoughts too until YS got into foul trouble.

Strength and conditioning work over the summer will be a huge key for him. If he gets stronger he can be dominant on both ends.

Already he is one of the strongest players on the floor at all times. When others collide with him, they bounce off. With more work, he will be a monster.

I honestly think he gives us a better chance to win some of these games than Yurtseven does. This kid is just oozing potential (and some of it is starting to be realized). He deserves starters minutes (pending foul trouble of course) against the teams in this conference that present matchup problems down low. Yurtseven cannot handle the big physical centers in this league on either end of the floor.

Yurtseven cannot handle the big physical centers in this league on either end of the floor. When Xavier comes to town, Pat should throw them a curve ball by starting Qudus at the 5 and Omer at the 4 on offense. Qudus should take the intial jump ball because Omer loses every one. Use Pickett at his natural 3 and make these three players stay put for rebounds. We will be taller than Xavier and should win the rebounding battle. Someone mentioned how we have lost every game where we have lost the rebounding battle. Let's make sure we win it. Start Mac at the 2 and Allen at the 1, and have Mosely ready to come in when someone picks up their first foul. No one should have two fouls before the first TV time-out. Keep rotating these players and Blair to keep Xavier guessing. On offense, Omer at the 4 should help him with his long 2s. I don't like them, but the truth is Omer is exceptional from 10-15 ft. He should scrap the baseline 5fter. Also, have Qudus stay in the middle with the four other players outside the arc - Omer at the top, Pickett in one of the corners, Mac and Allen to the sides. Let's see if Xavier leaves Qudus one-on-one inside.
