The BE Big10 challenge (Gavitt tip off) runs until 2022 under the current contractIt’d be great if we had both going.
So potentially on next year’s calendar we have: - 2 top 50 neutral site tournament games and 2 150-250 home tournament games - 1 Gavitt tip-off game (home?) - 1 Big 12 game - @smu - Syracuse? (If the contract is renewed) Not a bad start to the schedule, and definitely a significant step up.

Very good news. The Big 12 also basically has no bad teams, so any team we play would be a good boost to our out of conference schedule, and presumably, provide a pretty good opponent for a home game every two years.
Keep in mind also, it's not just about strength of schedule, it's also about getting some good wins so that when we are evaluated for the tournament, we benefit. A good example is 10 seed Oklahoma last year. They were essentially 8-11 (including their conference tournament loss), lost 8 of their last 10 games, and still made the NCAA tournament because they had some quality wins both outside the conference and inside.

Pretty sure the Hoyas will open up with Texas at MSG. The organizers of the event will want to first make sure Duke is playing in Prime time on both nights. Cal as a program is down and in a complete rebuild. It would be a MAJOR upset if they beat Duke. Duke playing Georgetown or Texas the second night is a win win for organizers in terms of ticket sales...

I think we will be happier with our OOC next year. Would hope Syracuse is worked out, but definitely better either way.

I hope the Memphis scheduling works out - just the type of games we need to be playing OOC.

There are seven games we can count on (including 3 home, 2 neutral, 1 away, 1 unsure):
Empire Classic - 4 games 2 home games against TBD opponents (hopefully 100-200 level, but possibly 200+) Nov 21 - Texas Nov 22 - Duke or Cal
1 home game in the Gavitt games, against a Big 10 opponent (unclear whether it will be Illinois, or if they'll mix up opponents from last year). 1 home/away game against a Big 12 opponent 1 game @smu
Other rumored games... - reupping with Syracuse (though Boeheim said he wasn't sure about renewing) - possible series with Memphis (they're interested, no indication either way from Ewing)
Definitely an upgrade over this season's OOC, but how much of an upgrade remains TBD. Hopefully, they can fill the rest of the home games with a mix of mid-majors and decent low-majors.

Unless the rules have changed in the last two years, you can only have 13 non-conference games if you do a tournament like the Empire Classic.
What's the basis for saying we get two Big 10 games? I thought we get one Gavitt game, and then possibly one in the new Big 12 series?

Gavitt game is a Big 10-Big East challenge, and we’ll have a home game, since we were at illinois last year. The new challenge is between Big East and Big 12. I assume we’ll get one game, not clear whether it will be home or away.

Has playing Texas already been decided? Looking forward to see Wahab vs. Baker.

Maryland didn't play in the Gavitt Games last year while Illinois has played the last 2 years. Does that mean we should get UMD again?
I have no idea how it works, but I really want Maryland next year so I'm going to act as if we are guaranteed to get UMD.

I don’t think so, but that seems to be an assumption. (That Duke would get the weakest opponent—Cal—to ease their path to the final.)
