Point of reference: When a coach dismisses a player, the player remains on scholarship in most every case. So, I would guess there was no opened scholarship without McKnight on the roster. // This definitely a building year, but the team just might pull some surprises. Thanks for that info coach. Heres the first surprise of the season. Our girls taken to pound town by some school named Abilene Christian. I assume thats a college and not a high school. Lost 3-1, lost the third set 25-10. Same issues, hit 0.169 as a team despite Speech hitting .650. Errors all over, ran a 6-2 with the Frosh DS Cusi. Setting appears to be a disaster along with all the other issues. ramblinwreck.com/georgia-tech-volleyball-live-stats/

Not a great start. Interesting to see a 6-2. Have to say I didn't see that coming. Will be curious to see if he stays with the same group this evening. I thought based on pedigree that Wilhite in particular would see more time. Hard to win hitting .169 especially when you get out blocked and out dug.

Agree that 6-2 was strange, particularly since stats show Plovonka had more assists than Cusi. Where is King? Need her to shore up RS-Snipe really can’t be used much in any serious game. Is Kelly there? Didn’t see any stats showing she was in the game, and curious why coach wouldn’t have her passing-especially if passing was an issue. Hopefully coach will go with 5-1 next match. Stats pretty rough. Let’s see what happens.

Next year will b brutal when Speech graduates, she continues to be the entire team. Toby's OH transfer from his old school struggled horribly. I wouldve thought Toby wouldve had shown some improvement in hitting, serving, passing or blocking. And unfortunately, none of it improved and now you can add setting to the list of issues. What a mess.

Sorry to hear that, Toby 2. Will remain hopeful that team will gel at some point. Be nice to see live action on court-trying to follow stat feed is difficult to get full picture. Thanks for filling us in and glad that you are there to cheer on the team.

@toby2, I'm not sure why you are on this board other than to spew -- highlighting all the reasons these boards prove to be a cesspool of bad behavior. If you are angry, I get that, but find another outlet and spare the rest of us. @toby2, I am not a coach, no matter what your creative conspiracy theories have you to believe. I'm here to support this team and root for their success on the road to all the life lessons in store for them. Not, @toby2, to bring them down. You certainly must have better things to do with your time. I'm all for constructive criticism, but you have far surpassed anything constructive in your comments. Have a nice weekend, I've got a lawn to mow.

Well back to a single setter (at least by box score) and 2 good wins. Not sure if that is the difference or what but I'll take the 2 wins. Again, by box score you have to worry that we are still extremely heavy on only 3 hitters and our % is probably just under .200. Those are warning signs for sure.
Also curious that he seems to have brought in a bunch of players but is playing a limited bench even in this first tourney. Thought we would see a few more players get legit swings but not so far. Again, by pedigree I would think Wilhite would get time but not so far. Who knows. Am a little worried about Sinette being probably under .200. She has to be a lot better for this team to work.
Will watch some of the GT game - looking forward to seeing what we have this year.

Was able to follow the feed. Stats for Speech, Wertzberger and -especially-Sinnette v disappointing. Note that those players are three of starting (andlosimg) lineup from last season and only Speech had impressive stats. UMES transfer is burning up the court in comparison to Sinette. Freshmen need to be developed and some of the more seasoned players that didn’t get as much play time are out-apparently injured. So we are not seeing full strength of team. Suspect Rens will replace Sinette, whose stats remain underwhelming, as soon as he is able to get another hitter up to speed. Will be interested to watch live game tonight as stats don’t tell the whole story. Go Hoyas!

Would be nice if Wilhite had come in ready to play, but she was a redshirted freshman at USC so maybe she needs to dust the rust off? Most freshmen see little play time for a reason: coaches don’t want to psych them out-and older players, who are used to speed and intensity of D ball, typically get more play time until younger players can be developed. I suspect Rens has purposely played most of his freshmen sparingly-as is typical for most college coaches. (Only time an entire freshmen class would ever get serious playtime is if most of the older players blew out of a team-which is exactly what happened with the 2019 GU recruiting class.) The team fell apart so Arlisa had to recruit six new freshmen to replace the players that quit. Purely speculative, but wonder if being forced to play so many young players all on the court at the same time, without much senior leadership (only three returning players that year) created an defeatist attitude -or if was just poor coaching? I suspect it was mainly poor coaching that was at fault bc there was plenty of raw talent in the 2019 recruiting class

Sinnette had an impressive 19 kills but 11 errors for a .174 hitting %. Setting was awful. Lots of work needs to be done. Wilhite looks lost

I have to admit it was pretty tough to watch. Sinette had a better game than usual (look at her overall weak hitting stats this weekend -v reminiscent of past years’ poor hitting stats.). Sinette’s passing has definitely improved, which is great. Speech was off all weekend-can’t blame her service errors and poor timing (and out of bound hits) all on setting. Service errors a major issue for the team. Wilhite is puzzling. Can’t figure out what’s going on there? Hopefully it’s preseason jitters-and a big example of why coaches often can’t rely on freshman players . King out on RS was a major loss this weekend. Giant hole in RS. Snipe is not v athletic and Wertzbeger still looks injured. Freshman RS Akenule doesn’t block but instead is often on 10 foot line waiting to be set. Back row defense looked pretty good (Cusi a great addition and UMES transfer a solid passer) so that’s a plus. Disappointing game, for sure, but let’s hope injured players will return soon to help shore up some of the issues at the net and on the court in general. It’s early in the season so I will stay optimistic! Hoya Saxa!

She should be much further along than a true frosh would be. Goes to show those PrepVolleyball Senior Aces list aint all that accurate or worth much.

I thought they did play "scrappy". Especially the back row. The hitting stats were unacceptable but not due to the back row.
Speech was puzzling. I thought she would have her way with GT's young middles. Willhite was just really weird. She was transitioning like she didn't think she would be set no matter what she did and she wasn't set at all. 3 swings in 3 sets. And she wasn't in position to get set any more than that. Even her fake jumps were generally a step inside the 10 foot line. With her pedigree and an ship at USC with a year of work there I expected more. Hoping to see more explosiveness out of her going forward.
The offense in general was pretty predictable. Even in system there was a lot of just throwing it to the pin or Speech in the middle. Not a lot of creativity, moving folks around orhtweeks to get a new angle or matchup. Definitely some work to be done. Another hitting option or preferably 2 would be really helpful.

Interesting that Wilhite's "little" sister has decommited USC. An honorable, even if difficult, move on the part of the Wilhite family. Loyalty matters in sport and life. I wish good things for the family and their daughters.

Disappointing game against Penn. Blocking an issue and King’s return sadly did not make much of a difference.RS continues to be a problem. Sinnette continues to struggle and her errors cost the team a win. Puzzling why Rens keeps trying to play her-at least in clutch games as she consistently does not deliver. Freshman OH a better bet to develop as a 6-to OH. Wertzberger looks and plays injured. While watching live feed, looked like her knee was taped and saw her limping off the court. Again, freshman OH seems like a better option. On a more positive note, back row defense was strong, which is helpful because pins are t delivering the blocks or kills. Speech did an excellent job. Will miss the games today, but wish the team good luck!
