Thanks, hoyavbfan for the recap! Does anyone know why Speech was out versus George Mason? King was very effective in the G.M. game and Sinnette played well, too.

Unfortunately Speech had a death in the family and was not available.

Glad her absence is not long term.
In some ways the results this weekend without her gives some optimism. The loss to Penn was bad but the split on Sat was not bad - especially considering UNCW won in the 5th. Close match.
From the box score looks like we have a RS. Middle is still weak both hitting and blocking. But it isn't hard to make a case we beat UNCW with Speech.
We'll see what happens going forward.

Great news for the Hoyas.....Brennan's sister Peyton Wilhite -- 6'4'' OH or RS -- has committed to Georgetown. 2019. Future is looking very promising. (according to her Instagram post last night)

Great news about Wilhite! Painful to watch game tonight against VCU. UMES recruit should be subbed out of back row-consistently weak defense. Nice swing at net but not a 6-ro player. Wertzberger is not an option and Sinnette is weak as well as 6-ro OH. Team can’t deliver wins. Pins choke and Plovonka isn’t athletic enough to play back row-and way too many doubles. Only decent players are Libero, Speech and DS-King can hit on RS but can’t block. Freshman OH weak at net-can’t block. Rens needs to rebuild team from ground up. All those players standing there and no options? How many on the team? 18? And only 7-9 typically rotate in? Strange Very disappointing-again.

Its a mess. Team hit 0.074 tonight, almost as many errors as kills. Sinnette and UMES BOTH hit negative. Team lost to an average VCU team that came in 1-5.
Adding the Wilhite sister wont matter if she plays like her sister. Speech leaving after this year will create a massive hole in the offense and defense.
My guess is Rens runs off at least half the team after this year. And tries to put together a massive class in 2020..but hes behind for that class as most top notch kids have already committed. I dont get the sense that kids are beating down the door to play for toby. Im also not sure how good of a talent evaluator he is if he thought the UMES transfer was good enough to play in the Big East. She clearly is not. Shes on par with Sinnette, which is not a formula for success. Problem is, after sinnette theres not much on the bench or in the recruiting pipeline to replace her. Tobys recruits this year are non factors, hamling, wilhite and adundale. Cusi and Barbosa are Arlisa recruits.
This ship wont be turned around very quickly, if ever.

(according to her Instagram post last night) Thanks coach, but im not sure the future is as promising as you say when you factor in your best player graduates this year. Leaving a massive hole in the middle. But, I believe you guys will do a great job of freeing up scholarships here in the next couple of months to go out and attract some transfers. Which, unless it was a grad transfer, used to be forbidden by the school. But, it appears toby has circumvented the rules, ethics and morals of the department as well as school so im sure he will be able to add more transfers like the UMES girl in the future. He'll need to identify better talent than that thought if he wants to win in the Big East. I highly doubt it will be accomplished. I don't know much about the inner workings of the volleyball program, but I've never heard of anything like that elsewhere in the Athletic Department (where most teams have at least a transfer or two) or at the University, which brings in 50-100 transfers a year, more in some years. Not sure how transfers could be violating "rules, ethics and morals" of the department or the school. But keep grinding that ax.

Any word about tournament this weekend? Will hurricane have impact? Considering driving over to see some games so hope the schedule doesn't change.

Can't imagine there is any real impact from the hurricane this weekend. Some rain but not enough to worry about. Florence took a turn to go to SC instead of up the coast.
I like seeing 4 new players commit. Still wondering about the total number of ships available to the team now. On the surface it seems more than before but no idea whether they got an increase.

SPEECH is playing very well in this match against Loyola Maryland. They can't stop her. Pivonka playing well, too. Let's hope the team goes into Big East play full of energy

They just successfully completed their "Get Well" weekend tournament Not a lot of competition but gotta love the results. Confidence is a wonderful thing and hopefully this translates to confidence next weekend.

Confidence is a great thing! Competition wasnt tough so good that they pulled out the wins. Passing still an issue in back row-Sinnette and UMES transfer consistently have trouble keeping balls in system-even with a slower game. Playing Big East competition will be challenging if Rens doesn’t pull both of them when they hit the back row--teams will smell blood and target them. It’s Rens first year in the Big East so suspect he will figure out that issue and hopefully adjust. Setter looked good. Snipe fine in games with weak competition but team will need a stronger RS to shut down big hitters. Cusi and Libero really helping defense. Running a 6-2 doesn’t work bc RS hitter’s are all weak. Sticking with a 5-1 addresses that issue.

Question for you. I obviously wasn't at the match so looking for your view. We were outblocked in 2 of the 3 matches - including badly outblocked by A&M. When I see that - especially against lesser opposition - I wonder whether it was great middle play by them or bad setting by us. Since you said setter looked good I thought I would ask as it implies to me a potentially predictable offense?
Separate question - are there any extra bodies with good platforms that can sub for Sinnette and Iva? We are a bit thin at DS.

Fantastic match! Setter was fantastic-shored up some of the wobbly passing and really carriec the game with Speech. UMES transfer steady in back row and stellar at net. Wertzberger had some great hits. This team played with heart and a great team effort. Congratulations to the Hoyas. Haven’t beat St John’s since 2013. Team should be proud and definitely is on their way! Hoya Saxa!

Big win. One of the ones that we had a chance in for the BE. Still trying to figure out these Wed and Saturday rotations. Really strange to take time from class for any BE team to travel in the middle of the week.
All of our travel is Friday to Sunday (lose Friday classes).
Villanova is an upside at this point but go get em.

That was a very nice win for the team. They stayed positive after mistakes. They did not let up. So fun to see them take that one from St. John's. It's not about the past anymore. Go Georgetown!
