James has played at a skill level that we haven't seen from a freshman point guard since AI's days. Watching stories like his unfold is one of the main reasons I enjoy college basketball so much.

Yes! He makes his teammates better, something we have not had in a long time.

Not an Akinjo fan? Blame him for Pickett's regression, for example? I think he makes everyone better when he is on the floor, but, in particular, Leblanc.

I'm a big fan of his, I just don't buy into the "makes his teammates" better theory... Does Akinjo make the team better? no doubt about it but I'm not sure he's elevating the level of play of his teammates... Seems to me picking LeBlanc backs up what I'm thinking...

Not sure I understand your thinking. Do you believe Leblanc is creating his own shots (other than the put backs)?

With respect to Akinjo, McClung and LeBlanc it's more about the potential and their ceiling for improvement than anything they are doing now. I have been critical of the two guards for being too ball dominant and what has been a shoot first mentality. However, that is clearly improving and both have focused more on distributing the ball, though there is still room for improvement. When Mosley is paired with one of them there does seem to be more ball distribution, but then you sacrifice the offensive potential that the freshmen represent over the still reluctant Mosley. The needle is pointing up, though the evidence on the final scoreboard may not be as apparent yet as it will hopefully be in the next two months.

If Pickett and Blair are going to be nothing but three point set shot specialists, please recruit over them now! Malinowski has shown more ability.

No, I don't think he creates his own but do you think Akinjo is the only person getting him the ball in good scoring spots?

I’m going to let this one go now.

Certainly a fair point. I don't think that any of us would say that ANY of the returning players - Jessie, Kaleb, Jahvon, Jagan, Jamarko - is playing appreciably better this year than last. Hopefully they will do so as they become more used to playing with the newcomers. James and Mac give us better guard play than last year, but we need improvement from the vets.

Jessie’s offense may be improved. The others are the same or may have regressed. Long way to go still.
