I didnt realize how tight this kids handle is until viewing the above mixtape. Pickett and Juggy are about to have great shooting seasons. Twan, Trey and Josh are going to get so many layups it will be crazy..........Welcome to the Hilltop Young Fella

I hope he measures his success by outrageous assist counts than by high point scored. He could really unlock the offense with Goven, Pickett, Blair, Mac, and hopefully Derrickson.

Hey so I have a quick question, since some of you are ready to run Akinjo back to Cali since in your eyes he is not good enough to play for the Hoyas. Who is coming in to run the point this year to please you, while Akinjo sits at the end of the bench? clearly you have a better option. Or better yet what recruit do we have coming in next year to run the point? Because I cant believe some of the stuff that is being written about a freshman player who had his first game, this board sometimes amazes me with the EDITED people write. Wow first game Akinjo didnt score 55 and dished out 23 assist without any TOs amazing. People need to back up, and we all have to know that the players read this board before any other, it is the first board anyone goes to for Hoya basketball even before the Casual Hoya joint came to be. Some of this stuff yall are writing is so far out of bounds its crazy.

I am sure he wishes he had less turnovers last night also, but as the PG he is going to have the ball in his hands a lot, and he is trying to make plays for his teammates and sometimes he is going to have a few turnovers. It happens to every PG. I have no doubt as the year goes on he will have a lot more positive plays than negative ones. He is the type of player the program has needed of a few years and he is going to be really good.

Not comparing in talent but the visuals of first games optics and players coming in from high school:
I remember a young player named Kemba Walker; around some of his first games that I saw he looked like an out of control freshman that would shoot at the drop of a hat and many of them were misses, turnovers and the such.
I would say development is a good thing.
To the present: I liked what I saw. All the young fellows need the time that they look like they will be getting. I'm glad Coach Ew got him. He has moxie.

I think he will be fine, when the last time a starting point guard had 7 assists? Markel Starks? He will be fine.

Akinjo is going to be great. He'll break the assists and "opponent's broken ankles" records before he's done in GU.

He'll be fine...coming back from bad ankle, making the usual freshman adjustments, realizing that he doesn't have to do it all himself will actually relax him going forward...but still needs to stay aggressive, just controlled aggression...I love the kid

I assumed someone would have stumbled into more than 7 at least a couple of times in the past 4 years. Especially in one of these early season games.

Can you please link to the post where someone posted that Akinjo should go back to California or even one that suggests that he is not our best PG option? In fact, the vast majority of criticism was tempered with "I'm sure he will be fine". The "it's the first game" and "he's coming off an injury" are all valid. But let's not pretend that people were like "Akinjo SUCKS." It was simply more like "I had talked myself into him being an instant star because that might be required to make the NCAA Tourney, but this game reminded me he's a freshman."

Yeah I thought Air Jordans post was over the top also.... but there were some that appeared to be a little disappointed with his play....as someone posted, once the kid realizes that he has help, the TOs and bad shots will go down... the look away pass to LeBlanc was a thing of beauty.....

I apologized for personally building him up this summer against the recs of many clearly wiser heads. Was I disappointed in what I saw in Game 1 from JA? Utterly. But I set myself up for that by expecting him to be our best frosh point since AI. Do I still think he’s our best option at PG and a useful player in the long term rebuild? Absolutely. He’s a building block. I was hoping for a shooting star.

I like the sequence where he drilled back-to-back threes. He and Mac will be fine. They are being thrown into the fire, because we little in the way of upperclassmen guards.
