It definitely does seem like Akinjo forces things and looks for his shot when Mac is scoring. Akinjo can get a little selfish and force things. He got swallowed up by the syracuse zone the other day. Hopefully he bounces back.

Interesting observation.
There always seems to be a point in a game where he gets out of control and starts turning the ball over at a high rate....see both LMU and Cuse games....where Ewing has to pull him out and settle him down.

As the competition ramps up, he's going to figure out which of the things he's accustomed to getting away with no longer work for him. Mac will be in the same boat in that regard. They're both improving already so I'm hopeful that they'll adjust sooner than later.

They say his highlights are rarely shown on Georgetown’s social media (and a couple other accounts). Think he deserves more attention on that front

Wasn’t 100% clear if they were actually in his circle or not. Just a pictureless account tweeting @ georgetown and @hoyas247. Either way, shouldn’t be a top concern

As we evaluate Akinjo remember that he just turned 18 last month. It is hard to believe he won't be a beast over the next 2-3 years.

James Akinjo and Mac MacClung in my estimation are everything we could have hoped for last year and this year. Today they were spectacular. I had advocated for us obtaining Marquis Nowell...he played well...but I cannot say enough good things about our young backcourt. Wow...if we can swing the 3 position. Wrong post, but I'm proud of Carter Grayson too. Go James, Go Hoyas!!

Real growth in Akinjo's the last 2 games. Easily his best offensive games. He's improving in his ball movement and fighting his high school tendencies of being ball dominant dribble happy player. Becoming more of a ball mover by starting to swing the ball in the half court and keeping the defense moving. He's also starting to make the pass up the sidelines to teammates streaking up court for more transition opportunities. Early in the season He would. have dribbled up the ball up court instead of making the pass ahead. Still holds/over dribbles the ball from time to time but not nearly as much as earlier in the season. Definitely has shown a much better understanding the last 2 games that he has the defense at his mercy once he penetrates the lane, while being more selective when going to the rim or just pulling up near the free throw area, and has been more selective in his playmaking at that point. It also seems as he realizes that if he moves the ball, and consistently moves as well, the ball will come back to him in a much easier scoring opportunity. I actually like when Coach Ewing plays Mosely with Akinjo and McClung. Mosely is a natural ball mover that keeps the offense flowing.
Next step for Akinjo is to stop the gambling on defense. He had a tendency to be all over the place chasing steals and losing his man. An adjustment he had to make is when he digs down into the post he has a tenancy to completey loose sight of his man as players at this level stay moving and are relocating after passes are made into the post. The zone defense has been especially effected because he's constantly leaving his area chasing plays that leave his teammates in vulnerable defensive positions and the team compromised.
Akinjo will absolutely figure it out. We are staying to see real growth and understanding what Coach Ewing wants out of him. It's obvious Coach Ewing wants a scoring PG with all the Kemba Walker references. Akinjo just has to understand that He will get so many easier offensive opportunities through ball movement and letting the game come to him. The last 2 games it seems as he has has begun to understand that aspect. Still needs to understand game and clock situations as does McClung much better as down the stretch they haven't asked been smart in managing the clock. Otherwise Akinjo is easily way ahead of the curve of where a just turned 18 year old freshmen should be.

James has got a lot of Chris Paul in his game. Once he harnesses his emotions a bit and gets a better understanding of how he can control a game...watch out.
