Workout with the Lakers today Am I crazy or would he be a great fit with the lakers? Possibly a good situation if Govan's trying to earn NBA check. The Lakers have to fill the roster with inexpensive NBA contracts. Awful fit if he wants a place to develop early, get an opportunity show what he can to do in hopes of having a long career. LeBron hates rookies/young players...

I guess I meant more in terms of team fit. Jessie's only real NBA-level skill is his outside shooting, and putting big guys who can shoot around LeBron has usually worked really well. He could be a third stringer or fourth stringer behind AD. I mean, they wouldn't have invited him for a workout if they didn't see anything, right?

They’re supposedly trying to dump all their contracts except for LeBron, Davis and Kuzma, and acquire multiple second round picks to keep their cap hit as low as possible, to enable them to sign one more high priced free agent. Goal by July 1 is to have only three guys under contract for next season!

I actually think Govan will have solid chance to play in the NBA for a variety of teams. His offensive skill set fits todays NBA. He's gotta get better on moving laterally on defense but there are a number of BIGS in the Association who struggle defensively with lateral movement and guarding the PNR/PNP. Govan's only 21 years old. If he's able to space the floor by knocking down perimeter shots he will at least have the same opportunity Derrickson had as a 2-Way player next season...

On this note, I hope Derrickson sticks close to the Warriors organization. With the loss of Klay and KD, they may need to fill out the roster early next season and I thought he played well for them.

Hopefully he finds more playing time. His small sample of 10 of 20 (50%) is pretty nice! That should open some doors. Keep working, MD.

He's not an NBA player. He doesn't do the things teams need from the 5 position.

He’ll probably get a shot somewhere, because 6-10 with a shot raises eyebrows. But don’t confuse him with MD. Derrickson was a limited athlete after the injury, but he is way quicker than Jess.

Good for Jessie. A long shot but he will at least get a look.

Purely hypothetical, but had Jessie stayed in the draft last year do you think he goes and/or gets a contract? My sense is his stock was higher last year, and remember seeing him in most mock drafts.

I think Marcus would fit with the Lakers, but they won't sign him, since they appear intent on moving to the 3 on 3 league.

No. If Marcus wasn’t drafted, Jessie wouldn’t have been drafted either. Jessie’s defensive deficiencies are just too big to overlook.

IIRC, last year Jessie went to the evaluation camps and got his "to do" list because he wasn't draftable. Did he work on that list? Did he work on his conditioning enough to become a Draft prospect? Only Jessie knows how he prepared for the season, but he was gassed by March. Only Jessie knows. As with MD, I still think he has a shot bc of his shot.
