The last thread featuring Jessie referenced the JT3 era. This season marks the start of a new era and thus there should be a new thread.
Congrats to Jessie on making this season's first Big East Weekly Honor Roll! 20 pts, 15 boards and 4 blocks is a seriously solid effort against anyone.

You have to think that Jessie is going to be the best player on the court for most of our non-conference games. In these situations I hope Ewing can instill in him the importance of a consistent effort night in and night out and help him understand that he can and should dominate against lesser opponents. Jessie has the basic talent to make him productive at the next level and asserting himself more at this level is a necessary step.
He's got a great opportunity with this team. They need him to be the focus and he's got a coach who is uniquely qualified to help him develop as a post player in the style of the modern NBA. This is his time.

He was still soft around the rim, which was annoying to see, but man, I've never seen him run like he did on Sunday. That alone will get him some easy buckets. He definitely seems to be better conditioned and moved better on defense, so I am excited to keep an eye on govan.

Agree, but Ewing will go over the assertiveness around the bucket with him, I'm' sure. The conditioning as you pointed out is the main difference. That's off season work that was put in. Glad Ewing would not accept the team just playing their way into shape as in years past.

We talk a lot on this board about how we should be able to bring in big time big men recruits because of Ewing. Govan taking a massive step forward this year and becoming a true NBA prospect will be a MASSIVE selling point to any perspective big man. Perhaps even more so than Ewing's legendary career to some.
Oh and did I mention he is from New York? Just like Kofi, Isaiah Stewart and Igiehorn?? His success as a dominant big man in the Big East would go a very long way for the future of this program.

I agree on the conditioning making a big difference. In the opener, Jessie dunked from the baseline with authority from a standstill position. It was a move I don't think Jessie could have made a year ago. Good to see.

I also agree that Jessie becoming a serious NBA prospect would go a long way toward selling the young centers on the benefits of Coach Ewing's tutelage.

20 points and 14 boards vs Mount St. Marys.
So far so good...

Has to keep the effort high and his confidence will follow. I haven't done much research on the OOC line-ups yet, do we face anyone over 6'10" before BE play?

I'm glad he's eager to be a good student. Coach Ewing is preparing Jessie to guide the team from the court when the Big East games start.

Lots of questions on this team but so far Jesse has not been one of them. He's been a rock and will need to continue to be. And if the rise of Jesse Govan coincides with the hiring of Pat Ewing I think recruiting will take care of itself.

This is what I thought we were getting with Jesse two years ago. Glad to see him continuing to grow. He is going to be one heck of a case study to use when PE is recruiting big men.

I really wish I could share this enthusiasm about Jesse. Our BE opponents will take it to him and I just don't see him being able to avoid fouling and stay in games. Plus, I don't see him getting these easy baskets and rebounds against quality BE big men. Maybe our uptempo style will help. Syracuse game will be the first real test.

Many players have inflated stats from feasting on cupcakes and he is still is among the nation’s leaders.
