Huge props to Jessie for that rarest of feats - turning a stinker into a stunner.
Jess was pretty much awful during regulation of his final GU home game. Missing half a dozen bunnies, starting 0-8 from the field, turning the ball over multiple times, failing to box out on two putback SH dunks, finishing with just six points and closing regulation by coming nowhere close on a 10-footer for the game.
Anyone who says they weren’t groaning about Govan’s first 40 minutes of senior night would be straight-up lying.
But to this young man’s credit and my utter amazement, Jess pulled a complete phoenix routine in the overtime periods, scoring the team’s FINAL 15 POINTS to practically will the Hoyas to victory. Yes, Jessie, the man some of us thought played with no fire, willed this team with its season on the line to victory. Jessie literally picked up the Hoyas down the stretch, put them on his massive shoulders and carried them to victory in spite of the fact that he was clearly exhausted.
Just a phenomal in-game turnaround. Kudos warrior. I’ll never question your heart again.
Don’t really know what happens with this season or JG’s career from here. But last night should be the opus we remember from Jessie’s GU career. On a night with the season on the line and nothing going right for him, Govan grabbed the yoke in OT and 2OT, upstaged an incredible performance by Powell and kept the dream alive. Wow! Just wow!

On a side note, my son and I go to 4-5 games every season, and he’s 16 and said that was the most electric he’s ever seen Cap One. Finally, we are moving back toward actually having a true home court.

They were into the game right from the tip, and a lot of students were already on break. Things could get pretty exciting at Cap One next season.

Glad to see Jessie on this list. I hope Jessie has a strong finish to his college career. People may dispute how talented/valuable a player he has been, but he has been a class young man who has represented the Georgetown program well. I wish the best for him in the next few games and in his future career wherever that may take him.

I've been tough on him after his poor performances but honestly we would have had another losing record this year if he left after last season. We are still Big Man U and Jessie has definitely put in the time and work to deserve this. Make us proud, Jessie. Georgetown will always be your home, now and the future.

Comment before the last 5-10 min of the game. I guess Ewing “cursing him out” did the trick haha

Hope the young man’s agent that he hires after the season has plenty of European contacts.

I never thought I would type these words....but I was actually glad to see Trey playing over Jessie in the second half of today's game. He just seemed to be fighting more for position on the boards and even fighting more for his shot. Jessie is a great Hoya and I wish him well...but sometimes that fire is simply not there.

The offensive foul call was incredibly unfortunate. He was battling (legally in my view) very hard to get position and got tagged. Not the sort of positive reinforcement we'd hope for.
Teams in general have gone to fronting him because he's not overly strong getting back in front. And because we are really bad at reversing the ball, which would allow him to pin for a layup, or going high-low (which we tried at least once but Josh shot instead of passed. He made it...but Pat had a talk with Josh right afterward that led me to believe it wasn't what Pat wanted and instead wanted it to Jessie. (We got a reversal to him in the first half for a layup...but that was the exception that proves the rule.)
I thought Trey had a good defensive game by his standards, and he had an excellent rebounding game in the second half after having a pretty poor one in the first half.
I think we are unquestionably better offensively with Jessie. If nothing else, and even at his worst, he forces the D to account fully for him.
I think he is also almost always a better rebounder than Trey.
