It kind of bothers me with the kid saying "Patrick stresses...". Am I just being an old foogie and making a mountain out of a mole hill? Shouldn't he have said Coach Ewing? Maybe Pat said call me Patrick but Im not as old as Pat and if some 18yr old called me by my first name......😡🤐💀......lol You have a point though. Maybe Adam wrote it in idk. I still want this kid. I just making an observation. I saw the kid play last summer in a rematch against one of the Baltimore AAU teams. The kid can go and more than anything he plays with passion. That "i hate to lose more than anything" passion....I hope Coach can close.....

I find it interesting that with the high level class that Coach Cooley's bringing in and Ashton-Langford and White returning, they are not so quietly still pursuing a PG for this class. The Friars were one of the programs alongside Georgetown and Marquette to offer Hagans when it was still believed he was going to still reclassify to 18 and now they immediately offer Akinjo. I also can see why they offered Akinjo. His game and toughness reminds me so much of Kyron Cartwright. Akinjo won't blow you away athletically but will be a steady contributer his first 2 years and ready to have the keys handed to him his last 2 years. Markel Starks type of guard. Akinjo strength's are his high level handles, craftiness, and first step. Along side an improving jumper will make him a contributor as a freshman and a leader later in his college career. He doesn't have McClung's athletism or upside so the transition to the next level will be a slower one for him which is actually better for the program. If he ends up a Hoya and has a similar impact to what Gillespie had at Villanova this year or Ashton-Langford at Providence as a freshmen it's WIN WIN! What the addition of Akinjo would do is add a 3rd ball handling playmaker solidifying the backcourt and allows Malinowski, Pickett and Blair to focus on what they are really good at which is spacing the floor. It would also create driving lanes and freeing up Govan & Derrickson from as many doubles teams.

I don't want to get too excited over that, but Meyer is 84% on crystal balls in 2018. That is a pretty high hit rate. A day after Pat was in house? That is pretty huge. Let's hope Meyer knows something. Worth noting Meyer threw in a CB for Frink today going to SC.

Akinjo looks like a great fit. It's easy to see a kid like that getting 25-30 minutes a game right away given the sad state of our guard situation. I don't view this as bad for McClung at all, either - others seem to indicate McClung would likely flourish more as a shooting guard anyway, and having McClung to pick up some PG minutes too, would almost certainly be a massive improvement on what we had this season.
I like that he is a smart kid and stressed playing time. I know he stressed Ollie's experience as a guard, etc., and obviously Ewing does not have that experience, but I am sure he invoked his experience with Kemba Walker and others, and I am hoping Ewing's getting out there for a quick visit is meaningful to Akinjo and his family.
I know someone mentioned the Providence situation, but does anybody know whether the other schools recruiting Akinjo offer as much potential playing time?

From the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for night one of the Tarkanian Classic - Salesian (Richmond) and Morgan Park (Chicago) was the headline game. There was much anticipation to see Illinois bound Ayo Dosunmu take on UCONN bound James Akinjo. - Both finished with 20 points.
Akinjo controlled the game - as always. He didn't fold, he kept his confidence and showed why he is one of the top PG's in the Nation by bringing all of his teammates up with him when it mattered most. He finished with 20 points, 4 Reb, and 6 CLUTCH assist which helped the pride defeat Morgan Park in Vegas.

About the only flaw I saw was the lack of length. He has the exact skill set that many believe we have been missing. And he looks like he could be great compliment to Mac. He seems to be a PG who can play off the ball while Mac is CG who can play some point.

Can someone explain this to me why two high schools from half a country away are playing a game in Las Vegas in front of 10 people? I watched this video and tried to focus on Akinjo and I literally couldn't because I couldn't figure out what was going on here - like literally the only people in this arena seem to be some of the families.

Salesian only seems to be about a 9hr drive away, so I guess they were the "home" team?

I hope the recruitment doesn’t drag out for Akinjo. He’s my first choice at this point.

He was clearly ready to come East. Thus while Cal is closer to home, that does not appear to be a huge factor.
