That was more than a little more interesting than I expected or hoped it would be, but glad to see the Hoyas' quality show through as the game went on. Survive and advance is the name of the game in the postseason, as the close call against SMU in 1984 showed.

Phew! A little adversity there to make things interesting! One definitely got the sense as the game wore on that the Hoyas would either score 0 because of cruel fate or 3 because of just desserts. Very glad it was the latter.
Game MVP goes to... Dave Nolan for firing one of the DC Stoddert ballkids mid-game for failing to deliver the balls quickly enough. It's that kind of tactical brilliance that sets him apart from most of his peers!
Seriously though... some kudos are in order for CCSU, who are clearly *very* well-coached and came out full of fire. Whatever else one can say, they did not play timid or intimidated, and they made the Hoyas earn this win. It's a program with many conference titles, but only a single NCAA tournament win. Given the low rating of their conference, pretty much any trip to the Dance for them is going to be a road trip to a high seed. It's easy to treat the conference championship as the real goal and everything else as gravy. The boat from New Britain that pulled up today was not a gravy boat - it was a battleship.
Having now given credit where it was due... the talent disparity was evident from the start, and the Hoyas deserve just as much credit for displaying zero panic, internal dissention, or frenzy. The level of poise and confidence they displayed even when down for most of the match... it was more than impressive, more than heartening - it was slightly terrifying. You kinda have to remind yourself that these are (mostly - don't mean to exclude Leah or Kyra) college kids. They carry themselves more like steely, seasoned professionals. Cool. Calm. Collected. Cut-throat.
Lots of other things to say and nits to pick about this one, but I'll just end it with this: the better team won. On to Wazzu.

That’s funny because I thought of the SMU game as well. Not unusual for a high seed to start slow in the opening round. Keep rolling.

Well, a little exciting in the first half as CCSU went ahead and with the lead was able to look in control. It was worrisome in the first half, and we were outplayed up until the goal, and then pretty even thru the intermission. But, Coach Dave spiked their halftime treat and the Hoyas came out to play.
Congrats to the men winning the Big East tourney and an expected good seed tomorrow in the NCAAs. Back to back champions for both the women and the men.
Now, the road ahead is tough. The games get harder, the opponents more solid. Do not for a minute underestimate WSU. The practice and play in conditions similar to what they should experience in DC next Friday (rain and cold). They play in what this year is probably the toughest conference in the US, the Pac 12 (with no disrespect to the ACC and others).
From there it appears the probably road would be Duke then UNC at home and then a trip to Cary, NC. The ladies have rebuilt a great team from the last two years, and are peaking at the right time. They are up to the task. One game at a time. And remember it is win or go home. Go Hoyas.

Amen.
It is long past time we celebrate the sustained excellence that the men and women bring to the pitch.

I think it’s on the Mt. Vernon campus, on Foxhall Road.

Wazzu has had chances (including a ton of corners) but the Hoyas have had the better of it. They've hit the crossbar and forced a Wazzu defender to save one off the goal line in the second half. Less than ten to play.

Final. 1-0. On to the Sweet 16 vs. Duke at Shaw Field at 11am on Sunday. As an FYI, Duke played the Hoyas to a 0-0 draw very early in the year at Shaw Field. So, there should be some familiarity both ways. (That was one of only three non-victories for the Hoyas all season -- one of the others was a draw with Virginia Tech, who also has advanced to the Round of 32....)

Is there any way that anyone posting here has access people involved with the feed of the games of guhoyas.com. We certainly appreciate anything we can see of our Hoyas but todays feed was really bad both on the audio and video side. You heard alternating, every other sentence, of what Monica was saying, but that was not as important as the video where the camera person did not have talent with the camera he/she was using. He/she would pan in and out, and when doing so you missed where the ball was. Close ups were not needed, but a wide angled picture was. They were behind the movement of the ball throughout.
Now during the course of the year, all has been good, and very much appreciated, but this feed was going to Lipscomb, Duke, WSU and G'town fans along with some NCAA interest too. It was not up to standard to say it nicely. I was wondering if something could be said before Sunday's big game. The camera person would have been better served by just using a wide angled lens and slowly moving with the ball.
I also know that there was a last minute shift to GWU's field, so this may have contributed. Thanking you so much in advance. Great win today, Sweet Sixteen----go Hoyas.
