I don't think he gets drafted at all. I wish he would eschew signing with an agent and just leave his name in. He could then come back. I'd hope a Georgetown degree would have more value than a year in the G League or a European league. These early departures are crippling. If MD is really gone, I pray we get an eligible Omer or one of the frosh (or Mourning) is seriously ready to contribute in a major way.

So Ava Wallace is saying that because people sometimes change their minds, Govan's comment is suspect? Couldn't you say that virtually any time anybody makes a statement about staying versus going into the draft?
I just don't think that Derrickson's decision, on its own, tells us anything about Govan's decision or whether it is "suspect," to use her words. I know nothing about Ava Wallace, and for all I know she could turn out to be right about this, but I don't think there's any evidence to support her speculation.

I think she is just saying that you never know what players will end up doing, even if they say they will be back. Every major program has multiple examples of guys who vow to return in the emotion of a seadon-ending loss, but decide differently in the light of day. Jessie is no different.

Yes, if that's it, then I agree too. Greg Monroe even made a comment immediately after the Ohio loss to the effect that it wouldn't be his last game for Georgetown - and that's understandable in an emotional moment right after a loss (and Govan/Derrickson's comments after the BET may have been in similar circumstances). It makes sense that once guys have a chance to sit down and think about it they might change their mind. Obviously, it's a big blow to our team next year, but I hope for the best for Derrickson.

Why Georgetown is unable to keep the players like other Big East schools. This is terrible. Looking for a breaking year next year and then this. IT SUCKS !!!!!

Goodman isn't smart enough to figure that out. I can just picture Coach Greenberg. and Bilas trying to explain this to him and Goodman with a stupid look on his face...

Didn't Monroe declare after saying he'd be back? I don't blame them for testing the waters. Govan is doing it the smart way being a fringe player. Marcus, oh well.

LOL I think his correction was that he announced on instagram rather than the “source tells ESPN” part. Kind of funny because you can tell these guys like to credit “sources” when a lot of this stuff is just social media postings these days.

One reasonable conclusion of the facts is that MD and JG are not nearly as excited to play for the 18-19 Hoyas as many of us are to watch them. This could be a sign that ‘inside knowledge’ of the team is less optimistic than the outside sentiment.

These guys want to get paid to play basketball and would prefer to do that over playing for free? Stunning.

Perhaps getting all the national U.S. news coverage for being a star on a dominant team in the tournament would be something to aspire to. Of course, I am not familiar with the plethora of news coverage options available in Estonia..

This could be a sign that ‘inside knowledge’ of the team is less optimistic than the outside sentiment. Or it could be a sign that, like dozens of underclassmen, Jessie wants to see where his basketball future lies and/or what he needs to improve in order to increase his chances, and Doc has reasons that NONE of us know anything about that make it necessary for him to earn money playing ball now rather than next year.
