If my 5’8” PG is better than your 6’3” PG, then I’m am happy. I don’t think we need to fixate on height so much at the college level. Who cares how they may project as pros. We just need them to ball in college. Skill and desire are most important.

Are you kidding me? I love this kid. He's exactly what we need at the point. He has an excellent handle, he can finish despite his size, he can shoot, break a defense down by himself, great passer, creates space and a shot for himself in one on one, plays defense, and can create easy baskets for others. He's exactly what we DON'T have and really need. Please sign this kid!!! Hoyacane, man do you make me smile. I'm 5'9.5" and played ball in hs....nothing great at all, I played pg, and love the game. When JTIII came to Gtown, he brought Michael Riley from Cardoza HS, who was a defensive wizard, quick, fast and dangerous. One of his nemisis was a fellow named Victor Kelly, a 5-6 NYC transfer at Western HS, and a student/understudy of Tiny Archibald. Victor was quick, fast, could jump high, shoot jumpers with both hands (no kidding), and a fan of Jerry West. He too was dangerous! Riley and Victor had some lightening encounters!!! The kind of stuff you would wish was video recorded. I see that kind of excitement in Markquiz...I've seen Chris Lykes plenty of times and he was and is a thrill to watch. If we got Markquiz, I believe we would be happy. On film he plays like whatever we've been looking for in Trey Dickerson, who has been rising to the occassion. We'll see what happens, but I would go after him...we're going to recruit and attract height, but can we get controlled lightening and saavy...just my thoughts@ lol, glad that made you smile. I'll be smiling too if we can land this kid. I played point too, and it's just frustrating watching us blow leads game after game. The only similarities this kid has to Dickerson is his size and his ability to penetrate. He's much better than Dickerson though because he can actually shoot, score at the basket, has better vision, and he plays under control, unlike Dickerson. He would work well with Mac and others. Our big men would love this kid.

You don't want to build a team with a bunch of 5'8"-5'10" guys but if you can find the right one, who can control the pace of the game, make good decisions and in some cases be a one man press break, then you should go get that player. Guys that size tend to play with a chip on thier shoulder, because they have been doubted for their entire careers and that seems to be the type of players that Coach Ewing is looking for now. i have not heard much lately about the staff pursuing him but he does have an offer and hopefully we can close on this guy.

And for those who don't know, Western HS is now the Ellington School for the Performing Arts. My cousins went to Western in the late 1960s. On the merits, I agree with DChoya72. I'm 5' 5" on a good day and played pg on my JV team in HS. Never made the varsity! Not all of Thompson's finds had Dutch's credentials. Sophomore Guard Mike Riley, who held St. John's Frank Alagia scoreless, was taken off a Navy-submarine service ship, the U.S.S. Holland. "I remembered him as a high school player and we tracked him down in Charleston, S.C.," says Thompson. "He was due to be discharged so it worked out. He had a hard time believing I was serious. But he was just what we wanted: a good playmaker, a good ball handler and very good on defense." www.si.com/vault/1976/02/16/558548/homebodies-rule-in-dc

Chris Lykes is now starting at Miami and scored 16 in 30 minutes in a 72-70 loss to BC over the weekend. He struggled a bit with 4 turnovers but hit 2-6 from 3. The knock on a short PG is going to be their ability to defend the 3-point line, which is becoming a huge part of the game. One factor for Ewing to consider before going "all-in" on a player like Markquis. If only Mulmore, Jagan or Kaleb were guarded by a short guard like Nowell... I bet they wouldn't be scared to shoot and they would make their 3s. (Sarcastic meter on) I guess the question is: in the case of Lykes, would the Height Nazis be willing to forgo his offense (16 pts and PG control of game) for just in case the opposing player makes a 3-pt shot over him? There are too many positives vs. this maybe negative. Plus, short guards are usually smart and pesky defenders.

Despite his height, Bogues managed to block 39 shots throughout his NBA span including one on 7 ft 0 in (2.13 m) tall Patrick Ewing. This happened on April 14, 1993 in the first quarter, when Ewing was pulling the ball back to go up for the shot and Bogues stripped him of the ball. Bogues reportedly had a 44-inch (110 cm) measured vertical leap, but his hands were too small to hold on to a ball to dunk one-handed. It has been claimed that Bogues once successfully dunked during pregame practice in December 1990, though this has never been confirmed.

Just ask yourself this, do our current guards deter opponents from shooting threes? A small pesky guard is an opposing guard’s worst nightmare. We assume we come out ahead factoring any heigh differential- that’s why we are on him. AI was too small to play in the NBA, I recall.

In the past we have been scorched by plenty of height-challenged guards. Let's get one of our own.

A kid with his speed and quickness can impact the outcome of games (see Dickerson's game tonight)...a potentially great creator (and solid 3 pt shooter) AND a disruptor on defense...with one of our schollies for next year, I think we need a shotblocker/defensive presence as our interior defense is pretty poor (Lorca, Kid from S.C.?)...not sure which way I'd go if we only have one other ship, but if we have two, i'd take Nowell and the best combo or shooting/scoring guard available...we seem to be scouting several who would fit...

The “I’d rather have a tall PG who sucks” crowd, I guess.

I just watched the videos again... Many times we watch prospects dunk, or show ball handling skills in drills. These tapes show him in action being intrepid, relentless, creative, beating defenses. Getting inside, in the lane, dishing off, and shooting. His head is up watching everything, directing the team, and he and the ball are one. What are we looking for in a point guard?.....I believe he has it! Please dont compare him to Trey Dickerson, or maybe, do so. Glad we're looking. Dickerson is a NYC kid as well. LOL..

He eneded being freshman of the year in Conference USA and the assist leader. We have help defense which is a team effort. I respect your opinion.

"I call him my biggest mistake," says Georgetown Coach John Thompson, who decided not to recruit him four years ago. "... Greatness has a way of elevating itself. It's a big challenge still. But I wouldn't bet against him." Let's not make this same mistakes. www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1987/11/05/muggsy-bogues-in-the-land-of-the-giants/1ecda212-20a0-4dcd-bcac-b05992264a84/?utm_term=.54e7fec283e8Muggsy even said he'd take Michael Jackson spot. Said he steal the ball away from before he came across half court, everytime. If Muggsy would've came to the Hoyas with Wingate and Williams Gtown would've had about 3 National Championships for sure. I grew up with those guys especially Wingate was my jv football quarterback at Northern High, then he transferred to Dunbar. When he first got there Muggsy froze him out because he wasn't from Lafayette projects.
