Absolutely right. There is no way St. John's comes in feeling like an underdog. If the Hoyas cannot find a way to score this can get ugly. Cannot expect the Redmen to shoot as poorly as they did in the last game against the Hoyas. Blair, the one guard willing to shoot from deep, is actually shooting the 3pt shot at a worse percentage (30%) than anyone on the team, other than Dickerson. Pickett, also a gunner from deep, is just as bad (31%). It's a shame that Mosley (38%)and Mulmore (45%) back off that shot so much. It makes it easier for the defense to pack it in and guard the bigs. Even if they took the shot and missed it might at least force the defense to extend. I cannot recall any Hoya team that was this bad at shooting from the perimeter. Cal. I don't know how far back you go, but the Alonzo Mourning post Duane Bryant/Mark Tillman teams had the worst shooting and (potentially worst backcourts) of any Georgetown teams during the three point era. The shooting guards when Mourning was an upperclassmen made this group look like JJ Reddick and Stephon Curry. Despite defenses packing in zones on Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo and leaving wide open opportunities on the perimeter the 1990-1 team shot 25% from 3 (down from 40% in 1989-90). I don't think it got much better over the following few years. In addition, the three point arc was only 19' 9" at that time. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/georgetown/1991.html

The difference is that the three is a significantly bigger weapon today. So, you could get away with it (to a large degree anyway) back then. We've already taken 50% more threes this year than we did all of 90-91! And we take fewer threes than 80% of the teams in the country! If you don't do at least a couple of other things extremely well today, you simply can't win without good three-point shooting. I think we recognize our poor shooting (hence how few we take) but there just aren't other good options to make up for it.

I really like the way Ewing has coached the guys hard and pushed them to improve and change some old habits, but after the game last night I think he might need to take a different approach and make sure he can find a way to keep the guys confidence up for the game against St John's. The game Saturday is a very winnable game, but it certainly looked like a lot of the guys were pretty discouraged at the end of the Nova game. Finding a way to get them to bounce back with a strong effort might take a different/softer approach. He has been in the game for a long time so he has gone through this before, finding a way to get ready for the next game after a bad loss, so hopefully he can use that experience to keep this team motivated and focused.

Man, I probably shouldn't have said that two letter word

Unfortunately as much as i like what Ewing has done with Govan and MD, they are never going to be Alonzo or Dikembe.

The scary part for me is that we’ve played worse at home than on the road. Against Creighton and Nova we have looked tight and tentative. Missing open shots and telegraphing passes. We don’t have a home court advantage and once we start missing shots the air just comes out of the building. Those two teams are outliers. There is a lot more pressure on every shot when you know your opponent can put together a 20-4 run at any moment. We will look just as bad at Nova and at Creighton because of the offensive firepower. Our team will shoot better against the rest of the league no matter the venue. The SHs and Provys will have periods where they go 1-9 from the field and keep us in the game. With Nova and Creighton you might get a 1-4 but our guards will not be able to take advantage or the lead will be too big to overcome. Like the mini run last night that cut Nova's lead to 13-8. Most teams won't have a 14-0 run to end all doubt.....at least not in the BE.....

Any update on Dickerson? I know he has not given us much so far, but with Mulmore's apparent belief that good defense means repeatedly bumping his man 35-40 feet from the basket, we need someone available for some minutes.

I’d let Blair play 25-30 minutes a game. He has a chance to be a big time scorer and does it really matter how many games we win this year anyway? Can we get Walker a lot more minutes too please. Agreed

Must win. Or at least must play well.
We have two winnable games back to back before we go back to getting our asses kicked. It will be a bad sign if this team falls apart on Pat.

I agree, taking Jessie or Marcus out to give Walker time is not a good idea, unless they get in foul trouble or just need a few minutes break. I wouldn't mind finding a way to give both Jessie and Marcus a little more of a break occasionally because they both seem to get tired toward the end of halves and that is when they tend to make a lot of their turnovers, but not sure Walker is ready for too many more minutes yet. I like Walker and think he plays hard and adds some energy, rebounding and athleticism to the team, but he is not ready to play big minutes at this level yet. He may develop into a important role player over the next few years but needs to develop more as a player.

I can't believe the team will not be up for this game. They must be thinking that they have to bounce back from that beat down. Go Hoyas!

Johnson's a junior- he needs to step it up. I was expecting more production out of him after a good summer and with new offensive scheme. Mulmore and Dickerson are seniors and offer little in terms of production. I hope we get the w.
