some of these guys might be able to do 8 years overseas , from 18+ , then comeback and play college football and get a degree ... or does the ncaa ban them from all sports once they've gone pro in one? NCAA rules allow athletes to go pro in one sport and then return to college in another. Several minor league baseball players have taken advantage of this rule to play college football. Chris Weinke, Brandon Weeden, and Cord Sandberg have used this rule to play college football. www.google.com/amp/s/collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/07/06/four-star-qb-turned-minor-league-baseball-player-has-football-offers-from-three-sec-schools/amp/Off the top of my head, the most famous/successful athlete to use this rule so far would be Russell Wilson. He manipulated the rule so well that he would play D1 football. in the fall/winter and minor league baseball in the spring and summer... Can't think of any professions basketball players who have used this option yet....

Very interesting article, have to think the powers that be will address this trend... Contrast that with names of only some of the guys who are gone from college forever: Jordan Bone, Ky Bowman, Iggy Brazdeikis, Armoni Brooks, Amir Coffey, Tyler Cook, Kyle Guy, Jaylen Hands, Jared Harper, VJ King, Martin Krampelj, Cameron Lard, Dedric Lawson, Zach Norvell, Jaylen Nowell, Shamorie Ponds, Jordan Poole, Brandon Randolph, Simi tu, Justin Simon, Nick Ward, Kenny Wooten There's really a player named Cameron Lard?

Tough one between being called Cameron Lard, David Duke or Michael Bolton.

Very interesting article, have to think the powers that be will address this trend... What's the one word that is never mentioned in that article? Education. The larger issue is that many of these players don't see any need to go to school regardless of their skills. If they could go straight to the pros even at 16 that's fine with them (and their handlers) because no one is taking the longer view. Colleges can't really do much unless the NBA (and more specifically, the NBAPA) is up to the challenge. The D/G League isn't a solution, and neither is a kid who moves between high schools every year going off to New Zealand.

I am not sure there is a fix, but I have always been a proponent of athletes being able to profit from their Name, Image and Likeness. The fact they cannot profit off of their own self feels completely unfair to me. That might lessen the amount of athletes leaving but it is not a silver bullet. In fact, it probably has more value in keeping the elite athletes in school. If those household name type players could earn 6 figures and enjoy college life, why leave?! These peripheral prospects would not make much from being the second guy on a team and would likely earn more overseas or as much in the g-league. So it is a problem, but at the same time, the quality of the game may improve if 3 and 4 year college players become more commonplace. Right now the game is not being played at a high level.

Is there anything more important than profit?

"Significant sanctions and penalties" = cost of "doing business."

I just don't get all of these players committing/transferring to a FIVE Alarm fire.... I'm starting to believe that there isn't much on Miller other than tapes saying he was giving money to Dayton... Saying & doing are far different things, remember Richardson said the the Quinerly's wanted their money but now it appears he never gave them any... Miller is not a high character man but it seems like the question of whether he himself broke rules has yet to be proven...

...which means "watch out, Boston College and Oregon State!" In other words, I'll believe that the NCAA is really going after big-time programs when I see it.

Pretty much the same story, with Kansas unavailable for comment.
