What's happened to the Hoya Hoop club? We used to see banners & fatheads on player visits, what's happened? I don't believe that was the Hoop Club and I suspect if they did that it might be considered a recruiting violation. Hoya Blue on the other hand is a student organization that could (and I believe has) done this in the past.

It appears that he's enamored with the superficial "love" that Arkansas showed him with things like the planned clapping when he walked into the restaurant on his visit...I hope he has the ability to look more into the substance that Georgetown offers him, not to mention the immediate playing time available because of his versatility, and the doors that Georgetown can open for him down the line after basketball because of its family atmosphere and connections...I hope he makes not just a good basketball decision, but a good lifetime decision...its a challenge for alot of kids in his circumstances and age to exhibit that type of maturity...

I agree that it seems as he's caught up in the superficial love from the fans but you know what 17/18 years olds do that. I had an athlete I coached pick a D1 program over the colors of their jersey apparel and kicks he preferred over another program that was a better fit. I had another tell me that they were picking a school based on the team's record and elite 8 finish the previous year even though most of team had moved on and the head coach left the program. In both they admitted to me that another school was better for them long term and had recruited them harder. In both cases I told them they were using the wrong reasons to pick a school. In both cases they transferred a year later. In my experience almost every D1 kid thinks they will play in the NBA and be a 1 & done or 2 & done. Very few think about the degree they have a chance to earn or long term implications of that degree. So these kids get caught up in the flash without looking at the fit. I look at Arkansas recruiting class and they already got 4 commitments, 1 PG, 2 Wings and a BIG, so I'm not sure where the fit is at on the Arkansas roster. Mike Anderson has told him he will play either the 3 or the 4. Hopefully the staff is pushing him telling him that at 6'7" he is guaranteed to play one of the wings which will elevate his NBA opportunities while getting a world class education. Hopefully Phillips father see's the value in that and encourages him to take advantage of the Hoyas opportunity.

Before Hoyas visit...
"A commitment seems to come every day from a 2018 prospect and one of the “available” top 10 prospects on the TBB 2018 ranking board is Jordan Phillips. Jordan talks to texasboysbasketball.com about his recent visits as a decision can come in the next Month
Phillips on Sept. 2 went to visit Fresno State and on Sept 15 the wing had an official to Arkansas. On Sept 30, Jordan is reportedly head to Blacksburg, Virginia to visit Virginia Tech.
“The visits have been good I enjoyed going down to Fresno (California). It is a very cool city along with great coaches, players,” Phillips said. Same with Arkansas; I like the campus and the players and coaches were great people to be around. Those are my only two visits so far.”
Phillips talks about where Fresno State and Arkansas envision him in their system.
“(Head) Coach (Mike) Anderson at Arkansas just stresses to me how I could really be a force for virtually anywhere on the court mainly being perimeter and the same with.”
“(Head) Coach (Rodney) Terry at Fresno State believes I can come in as soon I get on campus being able to be that big guard that he loves.”
Fresno State and Arkansas are among the schools that Jordan says have been pursuing him the most as well as Arizona State, SMU, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, and Louisiana Lafayette.
Phillips talks about what he is looking for in a program and the main factors in his decision making. “Really knowing that I will be able to come in right away and be able to make an impact along with having a great relationship with the head coach and coaching staff.”
A decision could come soon, but Jordan tells the TBB staff that it might be before or during the season. Looking at Jordan’s size, athleticism and versatility make him a top prospect in the state and we believe that Jordan has barely scratched the surface to his potential.

I hear you, and understand your points re kids and their oft quizzical reasons for deciding...do you know whether Jordan's Dad (or other family members/coach) accompanied him on his visit to the Hilltop?

Let him go. Is he a guy to put the full court press on? Have we ever won one of the hat trick competitions?

With only 2 schollys left and the massively changing environment in recruiting courtesy of the FBI, Arkansas is on a lot of prospects and just jumped in with 2 feet on "5*" PG Ramsey (IMG Academy) who decommited from the Louisville yesterday and "4*" PF Reggie Chaney (Findlay Prep) and a 4* wing out of Missouri who's name escapes me but had a massive July as well as others. I bring this up to say, it be interesting to see if he does want to go to Arkansas, does he still have a commitable offer still from Razorbacks? Also I can't remember a time where a recruit was so open with the media about a particular program leading in his recruitment? If Arkansas is where he wants to be, you think he would have committed to them already? Why does he keep stating their leading and what is he waiting on to commit there? Which brings me back to wondering does he have a commitable offer or has Arkansas pumped the brakes and started slow playing him so that they could get a better feeling of the new and ever changing recruiting landscape?

I like our chances.

How many spots left doesn't mean much, they could easily "encourage" other kids to transfer after the season is done.. Arkansas isn't in position to slow play a kid like Phillips imo..

I think he may have a visit left this weekend to Va Tech...that's why he's saying 5 days...I really like his skill set but I'm not feeling/sensing much warmth between him and us or vice versa...this Arkansas guy called/texted him apparently the Sun. eve immediately after his G'town visit and asked him if they were still leading, and he answered "yes"...his reply as to how our visit went was, "pretty good." No pictures or other positive feedback...I don't get it, with three point guards graduating and his ability to play all three perimeter positions, but maybe he's, regrettably, a better fit for the Hogs than the Hoyas...hope I'm wrong.

I know the amount of scholarships remaining doesn't mean much as it always works itself out via players transferring out. While we may think that Arkansas shouldn't slow play Phillips, we also don't have a clue on how the Arkansas staff feels about him and his fit into their system. My original point I was trying to make was that maybe they feel higher on other guys and feel very good on their position with them. I also would be very surprised if they brought in 6 or more freshman in a class for class balance purposes. 5 freshman and a transfer/JUCO or 2 is a better balanced class. From everything I've read regarding Arkansas recruiting is that PF Reggie Chaney is much more a priority than Phillips. Most of the Arkansas recruiting reporters can't even agree of when they offered Phillips. Some say at the end of July while others have listed the offer being given the week before his visit. We don't know how much the Arkansas staff values Phillips and based on his comments to their insider, it really does sound like he might be getting slow played. If Arkansas really is the leader and you have no more visit left, what is he waiting for on announcing? We will see as time will tell...

If that's true, that's would definitely seem like a slow play. Who really knows when Arkansas offered him as he's not really a social media guy. If he is an Arkansas lean and they are slow playing him, I hope he realizes it and jumps on the Georgetown opportunity. I hope Ewing and Kirby stopped into see Phillips during their stop in Dallas to see Carter and they were able to get him to see the big picture and flip if he was an Arkansas lean. We will see as prospects start coming off the board quickly the deeper we get into October.
