With Pickett and Leblanc, it was going to be crowded for Bey. We'll see how he turns out.

With Pickett and Leblanc, it was going to be crowded for Bey. We'll see how he turns out. With Bey going to Nova, does everyone think the staff is done with the class of '18 at this point? It sounded like they might have one more scholarship available but at this point they may just be keeping it for '19. Have not heard they are close with anyone else for '18.

I think LeBlanc will see most of his time at the 4 spot this yr. Might even start there. Johnson will probably split min with Pickett at the 3. Can't see Johnson stating this yr .

DC players going to nova isn’t a good thing ...Xavier, Miami ,Penn St and Notre Dame either. To be fair though, its unrealistic to think all dc players wanna stay home n go to Gtown. With Ewing at the helm we are a national brand again...we won't have problems getting recruits from anywhere in the country..as evident in our 2018 class where we have players from California, Louisiana and Texas

For whatever reason, I never felt any real "connection" between Bey and G'town...never seemed that he was really interested, or possibly vice versa...lets get somebody better...

Villanova was put into a “scramble” mode with their NBA early departures. Patrick and the staff have their plan working and have identified the right targets.
Besides the obvious target of a big man (or two) I believe the Hoyas will sign an elite level wing player superior to Bey.

I hear the posters saying that Patrick is making us a national brand ( not that I'm buying that quite yet)..but it would be nice to establish a viable recruiting presence in DC.

Just getting players from multiple states also does not make you a "national brand". Villanova has built their success on the backs of players from the two metro areas closest to them: Philly and DC.

Georgetown is definitely not a national brand anymore. Kentucky, Texas, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina - they are the Walmart's of the World. Georgetown is more like the Shop Rite (or Weis/Wegmans/Winn-Dixie if you prefer). Perception is reality - these schools are seen as providing the best chance to win, develop, and make a living playing basketball. They can walk meet any athlete in the country and have instant credibility. Instead of Patrick Ewing worrying about being a national brand, he should figure out how to beat Providence and Villanova for recruits. Villanova embraced being a Shop Rite and now they are more like a Kroger/Stop n' Shop/Giant.
Another small point - I coach youth basketball in southern MD. More kids know about Oregon and Villanova than they do Georgetown. Georgetown basketball needs to become 'cool' again.

I know this discussion is more about the local angle, but since you brought up Oregon, would your kids consider Gonzaga (8 Sweet 16s since 2000 vs 5 for Oregon) “cool”? Obviously both teams have had tourney success in the past couple decades, but I’d take equal (or better) success vs. Nike making us 74 different uniform variations.

Villanova is closer to NYC than DC. Come to think of it Baltimore is closer to Villanova too. So to make your narrative work better how about going with Villanova relied on Mid-Atlantic (Northeast megalopolis) recruits in their ride back to prominence and call it a day.

Georgetown is clearly a national basketball brand. In fact, not long ago it was the #1 brand in college basketball. We just recruited one of the best players out of the states of California, Louisiana, and Texas. That doesn’t happen if Georgetown is not a national brand. The question is what that brand means today. Georgetown’s brand attribute may be a bit stale without the recent success, but we are clearly now on a different trajectory.

There are so many Captain Obvious statements here that it wasn't really necessary to waste time breaking it down to shopping franchise comparisons (and btw you probably should have gone with Amazon as your upper tier reference anyway...Wal-mart is so yesterday). I mean the reason why Ewing was brought in in the first place was because Georgetown had fallen to new lows after III had temporarily brought its name brand back to prominence. I think Ewing is well aware of having to make Georgetown cool with the kids. That is why he is putting his 7 foot frame into planes to travel to the west coast as soon as a heralded recruit backs away from a previous commitment. It is why he and his assistants are being very aggressive on the whole recruiting front. It is partially why he has installed a new and more NBA-like offense that is far more attractive to players than the Princeton system. It is why Ewing joined social media. He gets it. Sidenote: Don't make me laugh with Texas and Oregon references. Those two are relevant more because of football programs and facilities than anything of consequence that they've ever done in college basketball. Texas is still living off that one season with Durant I suppose. New practice facilities aside, Ewing can't rely on such things to help the Hoyas. He will actually have to accomplish substantial goals such as doing something meaningful in March.
