Still waiting to hear more about the status of Trey Dickerson, who told a newspaper back in the spring he would take online courses to graduate South Dakota by July. The issue for him is his five year eligibility clock is ticking, and if he did not graduate and had to sit as a result, his eligibility would expire.

Not great news. This is probably the year he would get the most minutes for us, not to mention he takes up a scholarship for class of 2018 kids who might be legit major D1 players. That said...wish Greg the best and hope he has an excellent two year for us.

This kid must be very good for Patrick to make this kind of commitment.

Still two openings for this year then. And even if those are filled, there are three for '18 even after one for Greg. Although I still don't really get this, I don't see it interfering much with '18 recruiting.

You're right, I guess he meant he'll be here 2 years. Definitely sitting out.

By my count the staff only has 1 available scholarship for 17 class. Please correct me if I'm wrong?

I wondered about that, but wasn't sure of his actual status for next year. The Recruit and Scholarship table does not list him as occupying a scholy for next year, but maybe that's wishful thinking.

Casual has been pretty adamant that we have 2 open scholarships for 17 and has said that Malinowski is not using a scholarship. Take that for what it's worth, but Casual is usually quiet on stuff like this unless he knows for sure.

Adding two more seats for the end of the bench is neither productive nor prudent, and it's not like there are difference-makers out there for this team in 2017-18.

No - but depending on the severity of Trey M.'s injury, I'd take one of those bigs we poo-pooed before Akoy left and Trey had surgery -- like Atuwe, Kam Rooks, Hans Brase, or David Onuorah. Maybe there's somebody left out there with enough size and experience for 10 minutes of "just don't screw up" ball before Trey makes it back. I'd leave at least 1 scholarship open, but right now our lineup is an injury from George Muresan getting 10 minutes per game.

I'd add only transfers for sure. The two kids from UMass for example.

Agree that there's not much, but still a grad or two would help, esp. IF Greg M and Trey are not available. No need for them to be difference-makers at this point, just solid...

Malinowski could pay his own way while he sits out, but if he is getting scholarship benefits it will count against the scholarship total.
