I don't see why Malinowski would transfer anywhere that didn't give him a scholarship. If he shows up on our roster (he's not on it yet, but none of the freshman are either), then it's probably safe to say he's on scholarship.

Is it possible that he's not enrolled for next year?

Doesn't the scholarship counter system work that if a player ever has received a scholarship then they count against the limit? (Except for some loopholes of course)

Per casualhoya: "you can take Malinowski off the walk-on list for this season as he is sitting out, the current plan is for him to play next season as a walk-on so he won’t be occupying a scholarship. that gives us 5 open for ’18-19 as of now…"

Casual has been pretty adamant that we have 2 open scholarships for 17 and has said that Malinowski is not using a scholarship. Take that for what it's worth, but Casual is usually quiet on stuff like this unless he knows for sure. It's the third week of July, what's left? Not much, if at all. Adding two more seats for the end of the bench is neither productive nor prudent, and it's not like there are difference-makers out there for this team in 2017-18. Believe! Now, where's Mitchell Robinson's phone number?

That Robinson kid was enrolled so that will be a very weird situation.

That Robinson kid was enrolled so that will be a very weird situation. He never started classes or received college credits so his eligibility should be open. Thay said, I think he ends up in Europe.

He took two weeks of classes, so he'll need a waiver. Also, this makes a lost more sense about Malinowski, despite some stubborn insistences to the contrary earlier in this thread.

Right, more information has definitely come out since I made the comment. Although since it sound like Mitchell is willing to sit the year out, no reason not to go after him. Agreed with Malinowski. I'm still a bit confused how he will be a walk-on after his year off but I'll TTS.

But, I definitely could be wrong.

Didn't UConn move a guy from scholarship to walk-on to fit Drummond on the team? I know emulating UConn isn't a goal anyone should have, but I think it is done.

My understanding is that's how McDermott did it, and how Mourning was able to either be scholarship or walk-on.

My understanding is that's how McDermott did it, and how Mourning was able to either be scholarship or walk-on. That doesn't explain the Bradley/Drummond situation at UConn, where Bradley - who certainly was recruited - was allowed to switch from a scholarship to a walk-on to free up a scholarship.

Did we ever get any confirmation on Malinowski's status for '17-'18? I ask because I saw him listed on the official roster, which makes it appear to me that he is playing. Logic says an ineligible person wouldn't be listed on the roster. www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/gu-m-baskbl-mtt.html

The players are on scholarship so why not list them..
