Great pickup by Ewing. The young man's agility and footwork remind me of Olajuwon (played soccer as a kid). If the young man can learn Patrick's and Olajuwon's turn-around jump shot we have a future HOF on our hands.

High school stats mean little. He will face much tougher free throw defense in the Big East.

He has pep in his step. I like the way he moves. He has a lot of potential. I really like this signing. There's no doubt in my mind that he gives Patrick the ability to employ a press (as much as other personnel will allow) without absolutely conceding a bucket if it's beaten. He will be a situational contributor, but has skills.
Welcome, Chris.

I really like his mobility. Clearly, he needs to add strength so that he is not just pushed around, but he is tall enough to swat even if he is pushed under the basket.

Very happy with this signing. I'm not usually a fan of guys who are enormous, as they're generally slow and uncoordinated and limit a lot of what you can do offensively. But Sodom moves pretty well and looks like he could develop into a nice player. I've been heartened by what PE has said about returning to the old days, when we used intimidation to our advantage. I think that starts with a true rim protector, and Sodom may well be that. It'll be exciting to watch him grow into his body and develop his skills over the next few years. I'm a fan of the "L.A.R.M.S." approach to prospect evaluation (Length, athleticism, rim protection, mobility and [floor] spacing) and Sodom looks like he may ultimately be able to check 4 of those 5 boxes. If we can find ways to use him offensively, whether that's through him developing some face up game or at least some post moves or even just becoming a rim running alley-oop target (think DeAndre Jordan), sky's the limit.
Also encouraging is that Patrick is doing pretty well in closing on his targets thus far. While many of us have already accepted that next season is something of a "lost cause" and that any success would be a pleasant surprise, I do think it's important to capitalize as best we can on the new coach buzz. If we have a rough year next year all of the haters and naysayers and negative recruiters will be out, saying that Patrick can't cut it and he only got the job because he played here and that Georgetown is continuing to slide into irrelevance. But we can mitigate that to an extent by a) getting grad transfers who will help the team to be at least competent next year while not compromising the long term scholarship situation (which we did with Dickerson) and b) landing players with high upside out of the gate, so that a rough year next year doesn't dramatically impact our long term outlook (like we did with Sodom). In other words, it may be a little easier to recruit now with no real resume than it will be next year with a not-so-pretty resume, so it's great to see us landing targets. It's too early to say for sure, but it's some good evidence that the "Will he be able to recruit?" questions around Patrick will not be a real issue.

For coach E to get started this late in the process of 2017 this is an excellent signing.

I like the fact that he's really tall.

Oof. Perhaps a defensive montage would have been better...

look beyond the incontinuity and you see a guy that will be able to do it all in the post in a couple seasons.

What I really like is that he's not being lazy letting size just work fir him, but he is constantly engaged. Will he need to work on things? Sure, but wow what a ceiling, because he is looking to work every play. Now he is going to play for a coach considered an elite NBA big man coach. I love it.

What makes this signing ideal is that you have a 3 star recruit which coaching can bring to a 5 star. Perfect case study for future recruiting.

So in Sodom's 2 years in the states he's played one year of JV in Texas due to transfer restrictions. One year of AAU ball, and a half of a season at Tennessee Prep because of injury. Going to be really fun and interesting to see how he develops.

Hope we get some summer footage of Chris and Roy going at it in Yates!
