I think our fans get caught up on height too much. Understandable, because of our history with big men. But they want any guy over 7 foot regardless of talent. Most turn out to be not good.

To give up on him after five games- or even two seasons- would be absurd. Give him time- he will contribute. His time should be now. Guide him. I agree with give him time, but as far as I know he wants more minutes now to prove himself is why I posted. He's already contributed in the LITTLE BIT of time he's played. He just needs more minutes. SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN 3 blocked shots in 4 games. 7 rebounds, 3 O-Rebs, 4 D-Rebs. He's played 18 minutes in 4 games. >>> www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/chris_sodom_1051753.html

I like the kids potential. He's super skinny but he fights.
It definitely looks like he has that dog in him, but we have to be patient. Hope he sticks to the plan, as it could pay off nicely down the road.

Play the 7'3" young man. He cannot do anything on the bench and if his guards don't know how to make him better by giving him the ball when and where he wants it. He's not as skinny as you think. Just think when he puts his hands and arms up on defense. Hmmm.

I would agree that Sodom should get minutes against BE competition. It may be situational. He will get better over time, like the other bigs before him. I thought Hayes should have played more early in his career.

I suspect he is getting 100% of the minutes at center in the scrimmages, he will be getting better day by day, let the coach play him when he thinks he's ready. After all coach is a top 50 all time NBA and superstar. I think he would know a thing or two about the center spot.
I'm not certain how many hours a week the fellas practice, but it will be more than 40 minutes in a game.

He can play. He has 3 blocks in 4 games. How can you not play him in these cup cake games? I mean come on. Even if he's not ready throw him out there. Coach him up? Have you ever coached before? So what the coach is a top 50 all NBA and superstar. Much respect, but so what? Play the big fella. Someone said he was skinny, lol. Most ballers especially that size look skinny. See my avatar. If Sodom say's he ready to get coached up as he's playing I'll agree with him. I've seen this kid play. Guards have to make him better by throwing the ball where he likes it. Throw the ball UP! Also, remember Coach Ewing had guards that made him better by giving him the ball wherer he wanted it at. Ewing is not a guard's coach. No disrespect!

Sodom is way behind. If Mourning wasn't hurt I could see a situation where he could have benefited from redshirting a yr... Wrong, and you tell him he's way behind. He'll dunk on your head!!! LOL! j/k

7 3 guys are not all the same. Some are real stiffs who can barely move..those guys we do not need. Sodom moves very well..seems to have excellent speed up and down the court..probably faster than Govan or Derrickson. I think he has good coordination as well. Obviously, he is new to the game and some guys eventually "get it" and some don't. BUt I think, because of Sodom's athleticism ( for his height) that he could very possibly develop into a Hasheem Thabeet.(.Yes,,an NBA bust), but very good in college. Now Mutombo...I will not bet on that one!

I thought MJ was skinny too until I seen him flex like Sodom is doing in my avatar lol.

TRUTH. Exactly what I've been seeing all summer. I guarantee you if you throw the ball up HIGH where no one can reach it but him he will dunk on your head. He's very effective when the ball is kept high to his level. I played the point guard position growing and the one thing I specialized in was throwing the ball into my big man. If I had a big that could get it done or at least went hard made my job as a pg very easy. Made all my bigs better.

GU outrebounded the Spiders, 35-27. HMMM.
GU tied Jacksonville in rebounding at 37 a piece. DITTO.
OTHER two games GU outrebounded opponents by huge margins.

I thought the purpose of this schedule would be to get everyone minutes. Should be able to get Sodom 3-4 minutes a half against the weaker part of the OOC (everyone except Richmond & Syracuse). Players develop faster when they see their hard work in practice paying off in games. When players don't see game action, they can become frustrated and discouraged which leads to them losing confidence. It's still early but would love for Sodom to see 6-8 minutes a game before conference play starts to see what you have in him. Maybe he can give you minutes in conference play, maybe he can't. The only way you really find out is in game action.
Sodom will be needed at some point when Govan & Derrickson get in foul trouble. You don't want to just throw him into the fire.

I like his athleticism for his size and I think he plays with great effort, but the game is just too fast for him right now and he fouls way too often. This got me thinking, so I took a look at his stats. I'll preface this by saying it's an extremely small sample size given his limited play, but it might give some insights into why he's not playing more: - Thus far, Sodom has played in 4 games: 12 minutes against Mount Saint Marys, 3 minutes against UMES, 2 minutes against Maine, and 1 minute against Jacksonville. So he's played a total of 18 minutes, which is a very small number. - That said, in those 18 minutes, Sodom has racked up 8 fouls. - You can parse this any way you want, but if you look at it in terms of fouls committed per 40 minutes, it yields 17.7 fouls per 40 minutes. Now, I think that rate is skewed by the limited minutes, but it does show that Sodom has fouled at an incredibly high rate thus far. To be fair, Sodom has mostly played garbage-time minutes when fouls are less important, so maybe Ewing and the staff told him to just go out there and give it his all. Regardless, if he wants to see meaningful minutes, that fouling rate needs to come way down. And, we will have games where somebody like Govan/Derrickson (or both) are in foul trouble and we need guys like Sodom to step up. So, I am hoping with more experience he can get that fouling rate down. To me, it seems like he's got to work more on letting his height and wingspan do the work, versus using his arms and hands more actively seeking blocks, etc. He can be a disrupting influence just by virtue of his size. Right now, this does not concern me. Young big men often have foul problems. Roy Hibbert had a very high foul rate in his poor freshman season, and it came down a lot after that. Granted, the rules were probably more favorable in that era, but still, I think Sodom has the athleticism where he can bring that fouling rate down a ton.
