Much more concerned about the schedule next season than this season. This season is not about building a good SOS to try to make the tournament, it is about rebuilding the foundation of the program. You can argue whether it is better to beat awful teams or lose to good teams as a rebuilding strategy. But the reality is it probably does not make much difference either way this year. But if we go with the JT jr./Esh scheduling approach next year and beyond - then the scheduling issue does become a serious concern. I think this is fair, but here is another way to look at it. If we are going to suck so badly and almost certainly not make the tourney, wouldnt it have been fun to play some competitive OOC games in NY, Portland or at home? Like FL said, Im thinking it from the entertaining, let's see how we match up perspective.

BTW, I go to see the Hoyas play, not their opponents. Uhhhhh yeah, I go to see the Hoyas play too. And it's much more fun to look forward to when they're playing an interesting opponent. There are two separate issues at play here. One is whether the scheduling approach Coach Ewing is the best way to develop the team and prepare them for success. I personally don't like it, but I understand the logic behind it. The other issue is whether it's a fan friendly approach. That one seems pretty unambiguous to me--it's not. They could surprise me and have some fun mid-majors sneak into the home schedule, but that'd go against what the program's public comments so far suggest. But to be fair, we were warned about that--Coach himself and let's-pretend-that-was-Lee-Reed-in-the-press-statement laid it out there that we're in full rebuild mode and would be scheduling accordingly. And there's always the question--does being fan-friendly matter when you're building a schedule? Fans would like to think so, but it's usually not unless it's the type of program who makes that sort of thing part of their ethos...and Georgetown ain't that kind of program. We all knew this season (and maybe more after) would require a lot of patience and putting up with stuff to get us back on track. The schedule so far is part of that stuff. Fan friendly and Georgetown do not seem to go hand in hand. Sadly.

Just got an email re: Season Tickets. It costs ~$3K for two seats around center court (section111, 13th row). With the schedule we have and the availability of seats, does anyone here think that's a good value or are people buying season tickets just because it's what they do every year? Sadly, if I lived in DC, I couldn't see myself paying this much for tickets.

Thought about what it would mean to scrap them and save the $$$ - but it would mean that I'd have to actually work harder to make plans with my buddies in order to see them throughout the winter. Easier to just say "See you at the Alabama A&M game".

Eh, you have to start from somewhere. Build up the confidence for the young guys on how to implement Coach Ewing's offense and defense.

Then again, I pay ~$600 for two seats 3 sections over and I'm perfectly content with it just from a relative entertainment value standpoint. If I hit just the big OOC game or two and the saturday games in good seats, I call it a win. Fingers crossed we turn it around and people actually actively ask me for my Monday/Tuesday ones and I can turn them down for a change.

Nothing like a price cut and the return of the greatest Hoya ever to spark some sales...

Nothing like a price cut and the return of the greatest Hoya ever to spark some sales... Then again, this time last year was the day just before freshman orientation, so that claim might be a little stretched.

I'll hold out hope that they were relating the numbers to days out from orientation, not calendar date.

You guys know me, I have long been a critic of JT3' approach (as far as scheduling goes) and have even pointed to JT2's "...He certainly didn't learn d-- scheduling from me" comment. JT3, in my opinion, fell for the trap. everybody else have these patsies as part of their schedule; why should we not have them also. I firmly prescribe to the view that a team has to get it's legs up under it, see live competition, while allowing these games to build confidence--and morale--and chemistry.

His scheduling philosophy was a modern one, and part of the reason we got to the tournament with a bunch of high seeds. And no, not "everybody else" has horrible teams on their schedule. It's also a matter of degree. Even JT3, in the last couple of seasons, had scheduled a few 300-level opponents. But, there's a big difference between scheduling 8 or 9 300-level opponents, and scheduling 2 or 3. It's not a trap, it's the necessity of the modern game. We may have Thompson Jr. looming in the background, and Ewing as our coach, but it's not 1984 anymore.

Respect a different opinion, but JT III's approach to scheduling is the one part of his legacy that I hope continues.
