Michael Collazo: An example of Louis Orr's character: he appeared at a Newark Bears game and I helped escort him around the stadium. He was head coach at Seton Hall then, so he said hi to alums, fans there - but he also shook hands with every concession stand employee, usher, etc

DSR putting his hat in the ring...

It's not clear how serious DSR's comments are, but if his goal was to actually make an impact, it seems like the best place to share those thoughts might be in private to the current staff, versus to all of Instagram. Just a thought.
But, if this is more just DSR's musings, with no serious intent, then it doesn't really matter.

DSR putting his hat in the ring... That's... the wrong headline there. Never had a beef w/ DSR before, but this doesn't help anybody -- most of all DSR himself. Maybe when we're 5-12, 0-4 in conference, coming off getting embarrassed at Nova by 40 -- you could write a frustration post like that. On the eve of a presumptively successful season is definitely NOT the time. Even if there's no intended audience, it's pathetic and whiny to hear "In MY day..." from a 27 year old.

It may be worth considering whether or not DSR has a relationship with current players. I don't know the answer but the tenor could be viewed quite differently if he does.

In which case this would just be clumsy and ill-timed (but somewhat well-intentioned I suppose??) He's calling out our recruiters (i.e. coaches), cherry-picking 2 guys on the team he likes (meh, ok), and punking other (one/some/all?) guys who aren't tough and care too much about social media -- oddly talking about a "different culture" (whatever that means). Why doesn't he just tell JT, Jack D. & the SJs to go screw while he's at it? I don't think it's really a big deal at all. But unless the intention was to expose some much larger and more widely-known team/staff issues (which he seems to backtrack from), it's just kind of unnecessarily negative and silly. Now excuse me while I rip the parentheses buttons from my keyboard.

The clumsy spelling bespeaks the awkwardness of the post. Terrible timing and look in my view. The corrective subsequent post to clarify comments just makes him look weak. Not a great way to get a job....

Looks like Clinton Crouch was added to the staff as Special Assistant. Seems like a good developmental guy with local ties.

I don't know anything about Clinton Crouch, but adding a guy with a reputation of being a skill development coach and having local ties can only help the program. Sounds like a good hire. Does anyone from the local area have any opinions on Crouch?

wow - Coach has lost a LOT of weight! Good for him. probably helps him on court with the young-uns. Has to feel better. And if he's going to stay after the kids about working hard, it doesn't hurt to set the example. Bravo Patrick Ewing!

I preface this by saying I was ok (not ecstatic, but hopeful) with the Ewing hire, I liked that he brought the higher tempo back, and felt things have generally (although not always consistently) been moving in the right direction.
I told quite a few people that this was a Top 25 team this season.
Three games in, and we have laid three giant rotting eggs. Akinjo and Yurt have been decent enough, but pretty much everything else has stunk. We have been out coached, out worked, and tonight completely outplayed.
If this does not turn around quick, we might not win another game until Christmas. After Georgia State its Texas, Cal (not likely to be Duke right now), Greensboro, OK St, SMU, Cuse.
Not a gimme in the bunch.
I believe in Ewing and want him to succeed, but patience will be running thin for lots of Hoya fans if this continues much longer...

I'll quote coach Ewing from tonight's Penn St. post game press conference and extend his thoughts to the program approach over all: "I can't put my finger on it right now, I just don't have an answer". Quote was in response to a question about why they aren't good (not the exact question obviously).

I told everyone that this was Ewing's first real team and it would reflect his intensity and talent. Face it, so far it hasn't. Whatever happens Ewing will own it.

I would have hoped by year 3 we would have a better idea of what the approach is by now. No defense, no gameplan on offense, inconsistent effort, odd sub patterns...

Even worse response to question on what they needed to do to fix it was "just play better" which he said at least 4 times. I hope that's not the coaching they get.. "go to the gym, be a gym rat on your own and just play better "
