I agree with the overall sentiment that image, social media branding, etc. helps overall, and obviously given Ewing’s past he can command respect and attention in certain respects and it’s definitely helpful overall. Even if this specific event doesn’t really move he needle much, of course he should do it.
Everyone who was around at the time knows I supported JT3 longer than most, but as I’ve said before, he did a horrible aspect of relations with the public and fans. Ewing has definitely done a better job in that respect and been much more visible. I really think that’s necessary in today’s world. The older style of having an iron wall simply is outmoded.

While Pat’s PR team is planning his visit to the draft lottery, VCU was busy locking up Ace Baldwin.

Can’t land them all. Pat’s draft presence is good for the program.

I dont want to jinx anything...
But today an inter-conference potential top 5 team loses 2 starting and productive homegrown sons to transfer. While Pickett posted a Louis Orr quote to Instagram, and Blair & Carter were taking pictures as part of a community event.
Ewing should get credit for bringing stability to the program and players who have bought in to the build up.

Competing with Galen for minutes and accepting that challenge will only make him better. Also shows that these players' families have trust in PE. These kids aren't making any moves without input from their family no matter what background they come from.

These kids aren't making any moves without input from their family no matter what background they come from. I also don't want to jinx this situation, but I am a little surprised we did not see any of the players from last year transfer. In a perfect world every player that is recruited stays with the program for four years and develops individually and helps the team succeed. Unfortunately that is not the way it typically goes in college basketball these days as it seems like most players want instant gratification and constant playing time from day 1. The fact that some of the players who did not see as much playing time as I am sure they wanted (Carter, Blair and Pickett at times) are all still part of the program speaks to the relationship that Coach Ewing has with his players. The coach is clearly not a guy who just tells the kids what they want to hear to keep them happy, so the players must realize that his tough love coaching style and high expectations are focused on making them better players and people. I think it shows that you can still coach players hard and tell them the hard honest truth, but that if you let them know you care about them as people and want them to succeed and to earn their opportunities, that kids will follow strong leadership.

Still early, but I give Ewing’s recruiting a solid A so far. Really great stuff under tough circumstances.
Some tournament success beginning next year will really pay dividends, create even more program momentum, and hopefully enable Pat to land some Top 50 guys each year going forward.
Love the job Coach Pat is doing on the recruiting trail!!!! Putting in the work, filling needs, and getting results!!!!

Reading between the lines re the recent activity. 1. Seems Patrick is putting his future in the hands of James, Mac and Josh and will concentrate on their developing and maturing. 2. The two commitments today appear to be aimed at defense and at strengthening the rotation at the 1-3 positions. 3. Patrick seems to feel he has the elements now at the 5 position, with Omer, backed up by Wahab, to confidently head into next season; and, with Wahab and either of the two not-so-ready centers, to face the post Omer era. 4. It is no coincidence that the two commitments today came just after Cole decided to go to that school down the road in the Carolinas. Ewing, apparently, hoped for Cole but had a solid backup plan. 5. Still lacking outside shooting.

Agree w/everything here and have the same concern about our 3pt shooting...especially if rumors are true about who we could lose I do worry to some degree teams will pack it in on us and dare us to shoot...

Agreed. Omer is a solid shooter. Gotta hope Alexander or Gardner prove to be capable shooters. I expect akinjo and max to take a step in their second year in shooting efficiency. On a positive, we are so d*mn athletic. Transition will be fun to watch

I guess that depends on who you're talking about with regard to "rumors." deleted - no speculation about status of current players here per Board rules

First off, hats off to Pat. He and his staff keep finding quality talent, often somewhat under the radar. And they are all BULLS. He clearly has a type and its old school. Myron, Terrell and Galen play to their size. Pat has hinted at wanting to play a more full court, physical style pressing defense when asked in interviews, but realizing he didnt yet have the horses to do so. Next years lineup has the making of that type of squad for the future.
Akinjo McClung Alexander Leblanc Yurtseven
Allen Blair Gardner Wahab Carter/Ighoefe
Wilson redshirt
Athleticism and pick and roll options galore in the starting unit. With some heft and defensive ability in the frontcourt to protect the undersized backcourt on defense allowing the guards to gamble more.
A 5th year vet with NCAA experience to play backup PG and lead a second unit. And who can guard size on the perimeter to negate some deficiencies of McClung or Blair off the ball.
11 guys with the physical gifts to play Big east calibre basketball at a high level. We havent had that in a loooong, long time.
Feels good to be nearing real relevance again.
