Now with a little more distance si far as time is concerned, I wanted to share another piece from that Athletic writeup from a couple of weeks ago. This part is pretty interesting.
This could double as a metaphor for Ewing’s core coaching philosophy: simple, straightforward, flexible. When he arrived a year ago, the Hoyas tore up almost everything they’d done (and been recruited to do) offensively. All of the complex, habitual ticks of John Thompson III’s Princeton attack were replaced by common NBA sets. Pick-and-roll proliferated. Georgetown’s backcourt personnel struggled putting the ball on the floor, so Ewing cleared the way for ever more post looks for Derrickson and Jessie Govan, his two best players. It wasn’t often pretty, but occasionally it was; the Hoyas finished second in the country in assists per made field goal. Most of all, Georgetown ran: In the fastest of Thompson’s 13 seasons, the Hoyas topped out at 147th in adjusted tempo rank, per KenPom.com. In Ewing’s first year, they ranked 65th.
Imagine how fast Ewing's teams are going to be when the pieces are in place.

I figured I could actually get here and beat YaBoy to the punch by posting this photo. What the heck was I thinking? So...do the different unis mean official pickup games are going on and other members of the team are also dressed in gray and white? If so I'm assuming Govan is in white.

Hopefully he was able to work with Yurtseven and govan. They could both learn a lot from one of the best shot blockers to lace it up in the NBA.

Was on campus this morning and stopped over to the athletic center as I had not seen it completed in person. It is quite impressive, and hopefully we will begin to reap its fruits.
While visiting several players funneled into practice:
Josh LeBlanc - couldn’t have been a nicer kid. I think 6’6” might be a better measurement of him seeing him in person. Don’t know if he’s big enough to play the 5.
Omer Yurtseven - so tall in person and a bit shy. Said they are still seeing if he could play this year.
Jessie Govan / Jamarko Pickett - both are so long and both appeared to put on some bulk. Thanked Jessie for coming back and wished them luck.

Note that there is video of Leblanc playing effective defense against 5* 6’10’” Naz Reid. I wouldn’t be overly concerned.

We need to use Sleepy to nab some recruits in his hometown of Gastonia, NC and the surrounding areas, including Charlotte.

Like the recent pics posted of John Duren and Gene Smith, Sleepy looks like he could still run with the boys, knock down 3-pointers, and slash through the lane for a patented finger roll finish.
On the other hand, Patrick really needs to spend some time keeping himself healthy. It's a helluva tough job with long hours, game stress, and travel.

So great to see a pic of Sleepy. He does look like he hasn't gained an ounce!! Other than Patrick, my fave Hoya of them all. Still holds the NBA playoff record for most points in a quarter and a half..29 in a quarter and 39 in a half.

Is there any doubt he buries the winner if Fred does not throw the ball away? Not In me there isn’t.

Sleepy clearly likes his logo wear - they couldn't scare up some Hoya apparel??

I was there...and in my mind's eye, they were going to overplay/focus on Patrick down low and Sleepy in the corner (although I'm sure he would have nailed it) and Ed Spriggs was going to set a screen on the side of the key and Eric Smith was going to come around it and hit a foul line jumper for the win...

Is there any doubt he buries the winner if Fred does not throw the ball away? Not In me there isn’t. Not for me, either -- and if he did miss, it would only because he was clobbered. Then, he would have made both without even one drop of sweat. Icewater in those veins.

I tell ya, here is a kid who came to the program for 1 year and didn't get a lot of minutes despite the team having a thin backcourt. On top of it, the team had a very difficult season with limited success and wins on the court. In a vacuum, Trey would have a lot of reasons to become disillusioned, resentful, and not feeling the Hoya love. Despite all this, not only has Trey's social commentary about his brief stint at Georgetown been 100% positive, but it's clear he is trying to make a positive impact on the future success of the program. I have gained a lot of respect for Trey. Perhaps he has a future role with the team as a trainer/assistant/coach/recruiter. Thanks, Trey, for showing the program love after a tough year for the team. You da man! In a couple years, I hope we can look back and remember fondly your year at Georgetown as the first for a resurging program that successfully recaptures its former glory.
