I really hope someone steps up and finally gets to say something Do we know who does actually cover these virtual pressers? Is it just the student papers?

I don't watch many but I think Casualhoya shows up so maybe he can do it because as it has been discussed, the admin gives off a vibe that pushing "too much" from the student papers can make them lose access But then again Casual might not want to risk ending up on the same list as hilltop for simply asking questions that 99.9% of people are thinking of about the coach finally stepping aside

I see the virtual Q&A as less nefarious and more of a realization that there is no Washington press corps that is going to be driving to campus at 11am on a Thursday morning, looking for a spot in the SW Quad garage (it was much easier when you could park in front of the gym) and walking over to McDonough to ask questions anymore. Gone are the days when the Post, Times, Examiner (yes, all three had beat reporters at one time in the early to mid 2000s), some combination of reporters from channels 4, 5, 7, 9, The HOYA, Voice, and Joseph White from the AP would be waiting for a coach's comments.
Outside the Internet, the DC working press is basically Kareem Copeland at this point. The AP is using software to craft a recap, and TV sports doesn't attend press conferences unless it's at Redskins Park.
The format also allows out of town reporters to get in a question or two from those newspapers who cover their Big East teams better than they do in Washington: the Omaha World-Herald, Milwaukee Journal, Providence Journal, and Cincinnati Enquirer are all examples of this.

I don't think it's nefarious at all to do it virtually--absolutely makes sense in today's day and age. But the same core problems (don't ask tough questions or else) hasn't changed a bit.

What was the tough question that resulted in the ban? Was it about Ronny?

PE thinks the difference between Gtown & other BE teams is the fact that Gtown has 9 new players... Smh... They are scoring more but also giving up massive amount of points which likely means they have bad defensive players. I guess we’ll see once Big East play starts and the competition gets tougher.

They are giving up .965 PPP which is not a massive amount at all (a massive amount is 1.05 PPP). Their defense is actually pretty good - 71st among all teams.

That's in year 1 before conference play has even started, we are in year six so what do you call our rock bottom stats?

If 71st is mediocre, what’s that make ours? That’s not even a top 64 tourney defense. Mediocre

That’s not even a top 64 tourney defense. Mediocre Everyone here would be estatic if we were 71st every year... John Thompson III's last three defenses were ranked 33, 81, and 58. In 2017, that wasn't enough to keep his job, but Ewing can trot out defenses that haved averaged a ranking of about 149 over 6 years, and nobody deserves our support more than the coach that gets those results! Professor, on your "mediocre" point it really depends on what your metric is. There are 363 teams in college basketball, and so the median defense would be ranked 182. In that sense, 71 is not mediocre.

In that sense, 71 is not mediocre. What stat are you referring to for those last defenses of JT3 because they were not a good defensive team and certainly not ranked that high? Per Teamstats, Georgetown in defensive efficiency: 2016-2017: 131 2015-2016: 145 2014-2015: 113 All massively better than Georgetown with Ewing, but let’s not pretend those last iterations of JT3 teams were anything special defensively. They were passable, but not “good”.
