(round of applause) No doubt in my mind Ewing has what it takes to be successful here. He was my pick out of the coaches being mentioned, since the top guys turned us down.
I'm excited for the Ewing era to begin, and anxious to see who he adds to the staff. He will make Govan a complete center who plays tougher, better defense, rebounds and blocks shots, and those soft layups around the basket will turn into dunks.
I like the hire. Let's get to work, PE!!!

It will come to light that JT 3 wanted to concentrate on his family. Should be every man's priority. JT 2 deserves none of this conjecture. Great man, great program and great school.

Could be true...but "death warrant" is a hard way to put it. It's click bait on Twitter. Statement A does not lead to Conclusion B. Sad what passes for "information" these days, and reflects poorly on the source.

Apparently working on bringing in Shammond Williams, an assistant at Western Kentucky, who helped them get a McD AA and top 40 player in this year's recruiting class That would be a home run. Shammond is a great guy who will be a head coach one day. Yes sir, all for this.

First key will be assistants. I don't mind if he keeps PEJr or Wallace (they have minor positions anyway) but I think Broadus and maybe Solomon need to be replaced. Next hit the trail hard. Lots of open spots to be filled. I hope we go after the cream of the crop that is left over. Swing for the fences. Finally, appease the fans. Many will be upset by this move since it is so close to the JTJr legacy. Personally, I think it's a legacy not worth burning. Either way, Pat needs to make it clear that this is HIS team. Happy for PE and the program and I think he has a great chance to succeed. I never understood the whole thing about distancing the program from the shadow of JT2. I get that Patrick needs to put his own imprint on this team and program, but there is nothing wrong with leveraging the brand equity of the JT2 years at Georgetown. It has to help recruiting with some players anyways, if done correctly. If Big John wants to be around sometimes to meet recruits and be an ambassador for the program/school then I think he should be welcome. I can't imagine he wants to do much more than that at this point in his life anyways. Congrats and Good Luck

I suspect Patrick's Georgetown teams will look and play a lot like ... Patrick's Georgetown teams. Dominant big man (who wouldn't sign up for one-on-one coaching from one of the greatest ever?) and relentless defense. Ewing has learned from some Hall of Fame coaches during his career and hopefully can translate some of that to his players.
I am happy for the recruiting and national attention possibilities and I am glad that we took a risk on someone (first-time head coach). If I have any doubt, it is whether Patrick will be the type of coach who stays in the film room until 3am before, during and after the season - no real reason to question him on that other than the fact that he does not really need this job. If he isn't able to make that time commitment, then he at least needs a staff that will - young guys looking to be head coaches themselves some day.
After giving up my season tickets 2 years ago when I saw where this was heading, I am looking forward to signing up again (at least for the Big East mini-package!). Go Hoyas.

Depending on the assistants that are hired, we could end up still getting a decent recruiting class for 2017. Lots of ifs, but if he could get Williams as an assistant, any chance that Robinson may try to get out of Western Kentucky? and then you could see some dominoes fall as far as a point guard (Waters or Harris or the UConn kid who just decommitted?). Not all is lost. Maybe???

Jarvis's exit from SJU was marred by scandal as well. His name came up last time we were looking for a coach. Wrong then, wrong now.

Welcome back Trey Mourning (who can play and has the toughness we need)? It will be interesting to see if Trey now decided to stay. I would think he might, but he never really gave a statement about leaving the program so I have no idea if this might change his mind or not. It will also be interesting to see if there are any other transfers. There were rumors other players were considering leaving. Let's see if this keeps the current players or pushes some players away. You would have to think that Patrick had a good understanding of who was considering leaving, and why, from his son and if they might stay if PE Sr. got the job.

Looking at the big picture going back 45 years to JT2 coming to GU, the hire makes sense. JT2, like all great figures, has his pros and cons, but still has a good deal of clout. Also, he is an integral part of Georgetown's identify, both in general and in its athletics.
Like it or not, the school was not going to diss JT2 at this late stage of the game, and if it meant hiring someone that he approves of, it is what it is. Unlike virtually every college program, GU is family, and as in most any family, there is a some dysfunction, but as a wise man once said, "You never go against the family"!
Like almost any hire, there are pros and cons, but I choose to focus on the positive, particularly given the problematic state that the program is in right now. JT3 is a good guy who had early success but lost his mojo, for reasons that we will probably never know.

We will have one imposing figure on the sidelines, that's for sure. Gutsy move on the part of the University.

it will be exciting to hear about assistants and recruits in the upcoming weeks… This hire did not happen overnight, so I would assume that Patrick has some assistants in mind and has probably reached out to them before today to see if they would be interested in coming to Georgetown with him if he got the job. They need to be out on the recruiting trail this week so this should come together really fast. With his reputation and connections he should be able to put together a good staff that can hit the ground running. There is playing time available for next years team so they need to get some players on board. Wonder if LJ actually signed with an agent yet. I know he said he intended to, but if he has not actually signed the contract yet, maybe playing one year for a Hall of Famer with a lot of NBA ties might make him reconsider if the NBA workouts don't set him up to get drafted where he wants. Just wishful thinking!!!

Just making a poiint; Roy Williams has had scandal, Rick Pitino has had scandal, Coach K has had scandal (10 K necklace), so if there were an opportunity these would not be considered
