It is pretty standard for a new leader to demand people get on the bus or to go away to simply force a re-commentment of everyone.

Looks like they were sitting in the front John Duren and Mark Tillmon and someone else. Would they be assistants, or just Hoyas supporting our guy? I think if they were sitting in the back of the room, yes, but no, they were sitting in the front. Hmmm We shall see lol

Won't be surprised to see a couple transfers based on what Pat said. Can't wait for the collective angst on that. Next year is going to be a very tough year in Hoyadom. Sounds like Patrick will be crystal clear that anyone staying needs to be prepared to put in the work. Given his understanding that we are short handed, coupled with his statement that he is not going to just bring in bodies to fill out the roster, I don't see him forcing anyone out - but he will make it clear that he wants anyone who is willing to put in a ton of work between now and November. Might be a clue about anyone who does decide to leave.

I saw Duren on Channel 9 the other night. Said he wanted to help however he could, but it did not seem like he was going to be an assistant or anything like that.

It is pretty standard for a new leader to demand people get on the bus or to go away to simply force a re-commentment of everyone. True, but I also think he was telling the truth about feeling really bad when JT3 got fired, and his indication that he thought the team underachieved might have been his way of saying "you guys just got your last coach, who I liked, canned". To me his demeanor went just a little past the usual "buy in, guys" thing. We shall see soon, I guess!

No doubt Big Pat got an insiders view at the issues with last year's team from his son's perspective. Sounds like work ethic, conditioning and having the entire team buy into the coach's program/system might have been some of the top issues. Sometimes a new coach comes in with a new system and new expectations and that changes everyones attitude and level of commitment, but some players are not willing to fully commit no matter who the coach is or what system he institutes. This speech might have been a not too subtle message to whoever those players were.

Seemed nervous. This will be a learning curve definitely. I like how he went from a little nervous to getting sort of a steely look when talking about the kids having to put in the work, and some possibly thinking of leaving, but he wants the kids who want to share his vision. He looks like he's not going to be a "cupcake" with guys who aren't putting in effort. Yeah, kind of picked up on that too, but I really think the message needed to be more conciliatory. We have a great nucleus to build around.

I think it's a great nucleus if the players who stay, buy in. I think Patrick's point was just that. The team underachieved and that won't be tolerated. Everyone needs to work harder during the season and without. Everyone is welcome to stay, but on those terms only.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the press conference. Did anyone ask about his staff? Did he list any of his assistant coaches? I saw a quote about him hiring guys who were great recruiters, but I have not seen any specific names.

I really liked his message and thought it was crystal clear. No need to sugarcoat it to the guys there. Better that they hear it now and understand expectations rather than 3 months from now. Thought he did a very good job overall. I don't know about everyone else but it got me very excited. Did anyone else catch that it sounds like he reached out to Georgetown first??

Everyone needs to work harder during the season and without. Everyone is welcome to stay, but on those terms only. Agreed. Every coach has a method and way of going about things. JT3's style was surely different from what will be Ewing's style, and I am sure that Ewing wants to make his expectations clear, particularly if an individual player is thinking of transferring. It's important to recognize that this is a very tumultuous situation for all players involved. Every single player who is on our current team was recruited by and planned on playing for JT3 while at Georgetown. It's very possible some of them became disenchanted, had doubts, etc. (we don't know, obviously), but I would not be shocked to see a few guys transfer simply because they want a new beginning somewhere else. That is not necessarily a reflection that they don't buy into whatever Ewing is selling, though, as I wouldn't be shocked if someone has already basically decided to leave regardless of what Ewing says. If we can return our current eight scholarship players, that is a fairly good core. I am not sure it's a good enough core to have a winning record overall or in the Big East, but it could be a lot worse. I think Ewing is taking the right approach in not taking freshmen simply to fill the roster, but we also need players, and have scholarship space, so I think that if he found the right fit among any class of 2017 guys, that would be great. And of course, if any assistants have high quality recruits that will travel with them, even better. And of course, Ewing's top recruiting priority should be reaching out to Waters.

I think the most likely transfer is Derrickson at 50/50. Everyone else I think will stay.

But Marcus Derrickson isn't good, especially on defense. In terms of players who could be actual good BE starter level next year, I think there's Jessie Govan IF Ewing can somehow get him to get a bit nasty. And Jagan IF he can have a big jump in shooting and finishing over the summer. And that's pretty much it. I mean, I think everyone can improve. But this team is so devoid of talent right now, or the players are so unmotivated that we never see the talent, either way ... net year is rough if people stay or leave.

I don't think Marcus is going anywhere. His body transformation shows us he is not afraid of hard work.

I agree that we haven't seen anything yet that would lead us to believe we have a legit BE starter on the team. I also think there's talent between Govan, Derrickson, and Moseley. Let's hope a different style or renewed focus makes something click. I would add Akoy to that list. My fear is that none of these guys are the type you can really build a team around. Rather, the upside is that they'd be nice "pieces" within a better squad.
