This is from today. Schein is either totally unaware that he's the leading rumored candidate for our job or he was told to avoid the subject. I can't tell which.

This is BEast basketball, the gold standard. What is so hard to understand? Big $ coaches, great recruiting pull, MSG, no football shadow... what isn't awesome about the opportunity? I mean I suppose it's a possibility that we have his children chained in the basement of Healy, with Father Schall torturing them via the Socratic Method and making them repeat the allegory of the cave and quizzing them over and over again about who taught Plato and who taught Aristotle until he signs with us. Outside of that or Russian Kompromat on him we've uncovered through SFS ties, I'm having a hard time seeing it. This was from Father Schall to a visiting friend of a student: Q. When did Aristotle die? A. I don't know. Q. Yes you do. [proceeded to lead visiting friend to the approximate date of Aristotle's death in one of the damndest things I've ever seen]

So I'd heard of Jamion Christian before, but didn't know much about him honestly. Knew his name was floating around. So I just read the blurb on TheSiteThatCostUsTremontWaters.com and HOT DAMN... Seriously, it made me tingle in funny places. It's the first time since 3/23 that a name besides Shaka actually had me excited at the prospects. Energy? Check Style of play? Check Clear focused program goals? Check Coaching chops? Check Do you think a Christian coached 16-17 Hoyas team finishes under 500 after reading that? SIGN ME UP NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Seriously. If he's what he sells himself as, I could see him running this place for 40 years. Doesn't his style of play also at least give Waters pause about maybe coming back into the fold? DO IT DO IT DO IT When I say the boy has his own website, I MEAN THE BOY HAS HIS OWN WEBSITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yeah I'm sure what we lacked was motivational speaking. You guys amaze me. These quotes are great for fans, nothing else. I like this type of enthusiasm, it's been a long while since we've seen anything close to this @ Gtown.. I also think the program has lacked motivation over the recent past..

Asks for a budget increase for the program (not a raise for himself):
I think if he hops a 7:50 PM tonight he could in be in DC tomorrow, it sounds like tomorrow morning might be a little dicey with the snow.

I might have thought the occasion merited a tie.

Is that the Rhode Island House of Representatives or the Hellenic Parliament? Apparently they're celebrating Greek Independence Day (hence the children) :

I might have thought the occasion merited a tie. It's the Brad Stevens look. We could try for a tie clause in his contract.

Just as a thought:
We were all in on Shaka, ready to justify any amount of money we could throw at him because of what he is now.
Isn't the point of this search to find the guy who is the Shaka we would hire in 5 or 6 years today? Isn't that the vision of what this search would be; finding a coach we would gladly pay 3.5 mil for in a few years before he's making that and turning us down?

But the point is also not to burn through one or two people just to find the next Shaka.

The point of the search is to find the best candidate possible. For every Shaka Smart, there are many more non-Shaka Smarts who start off similarly positioned (with a job at a mid-major), who never amount to anything. Why would you choose the "next" Shaka Smart, if you could hire someone like Hurley, who has already proven he can improve a team? Obviously, you never know whether any choice will work out, but choosing someone like Hurley is much more likely to lead to success than trying to find the one guy among many who breaks through in 4-5 years.

Creepy Crean (donut?) set to be talking head for Final Four.

Whoever gets this job is going to have to sell the program -- and be savvy in the use of websites, social media, and traditional media to do so. On this board, we talk a lot about the win-loss record of the past few years. But, JT3 has been passive in terms of outreach on just about every level -- whether it is in recruiting, reaching out to alums, or simply letting us know the direction of the program. Really he was just awful about that sort of thing. He didn't even address the banquet last year. This may have been defensive, but I also think it reflected a basic arrogance that he didn't need to do this.
There's a lot of work to do. Today, Hurley has been out there and really demonstrating his value in this regard. Christian also seems like someone who would put in the work. My guess (and this is only intuitive) is that Hurley is better prepared to deal with the campus politics. I'm certain there are other coaches who can do that but they do seem to be among our choices.

That's a strong hire for them. I think he will really excel in his new shot at being a head coach. Was kind of hoping Crean would go there. Not seeing the natural fit for Grant at Dayton. I would have gone with somebody more from the Midwest or from somebody like Chris Mack or Thad Matta's coaching tree. Seems like a retread hire for Dayton. Grant went to Dayton. So i think thats the fit. sorry saw someone wrote it after me.

Safe to assume no announcement today? It's 6:30...
Not sure if I'm surprised or not. The waiting is killing me.

Nobody really wanted Shaka and then he got into the Final Four. His demand was all because of that appearance.

It seems almost a foregone conclusion to me at this point that this hire is going to come out of left field, and very possibly not anytime soon. We thought they'd have resolution on JTIII within a day or two of the season ending, they didn't. We thought they'd have a replacement named in time for the Final 4, they won't. It seems pretty clear that for better or worse the board and those making this hire are not beholden to the "conventional" timeframe for this kind of thing. I expect that the news will drop some time next week, long after the fan base is at wit's end from refreshing their browsers and trying to read tea leaves. Something also tells me that the choice will be someone who is not currently at the center of the discussion. Could be way off on that, but this whole thing has been so close to the vest that I don't really think anyone has a good idea of who or what we're really looking for. We've picked apart ad nauseum the names that seem like the most logical (Hurley, Ewing, Crean, Christian, etc.) but what reason do we have to think that any of those guys is being seriously considered? A couple of tweets or very flimsy articles? The longer that this goes on the more I start to think we're going to pull somebody totally unexpected, from like, the Missouri Valley or the Mountain West or something. Speculation about guys like Mike White probably just serves to make the resounding "WHO? ??" when the announcement breaks that much louder, but that may be somewhat inevitable. I could be totally off, or maybe I'll successfully jynx things with this post and the news will drop in the next half hour. But something just tells me this is going in that direction.

And then we will swoop in and hire the national champion coach whether it be Mark Few, Roy Williams, Frank Martin or the Oregon guy. Stick with the "Process".

WJAR Channel 10 in Providence just reported that Hurley is staying at URI and not taking the Georgetown job.
