Can we keep at least this one thread on topic?
NOTE: I moved about 10 off topic posts into the "JTIII let go" thread where they are more on topic. - Moderator Dan

The comments from JTIII's players today are pretty incredible. What impresses me most is that people who left on (reportedly) mixed terms with JTIII like Jessie Sapp and Summers both acknowledged that and talked about how much he meant to them. It's a really strong showing of support about what JTIII meant to the University.
I'll say this about JTIII -- he was all Georgetown, all the way. It'll be hard to find a successor who will replace that in devotion to this school.

I think the support just speaks to the culture of the program that a lot of people seeming don't want to acknowledge exists. There really is a community amongst former players that doesn't exist at all schools. I think keeping that intact will be instrumental moving forward.

I get the support from the Final Four team. They were a tight unit and experienced success. What's more telling to me is the lack of support from the players who came in the decade after. Pryor, Cameron, DSR all posted tributes with #myCoach with like from current players and even guys like Copeland, Sanford(who wrote a supportive Facebook post in early march), and Benimon. I think the idea that III lost his players or teams as a coach is a bad misconception.

Many years ago, I was coaching a high school freshman basketball team, and we were playing JT3's Gonzaga freshman l team. After the game, he came up to me (the opposing coach) and shook my hand and simply said, "Thanks a lot, coach.". He was the only player to ever have done that, and it was something i never forgot

With all of the B.S. going on for the past few weeks ranging from the ESPN article to the very disappointing and unfortunate comments (in my opinion) from Reggie Williams and Michael Graham, I was happy to see support from former players like Sapp and Summers who both thanked JT III. At the end of the day, one of his responsibilities is to take young boys and 4 years later make them men. Perhaps those men didn't like the lessons they had to deal with at Georgetown. I didn't like my high school or college coaches either. That's life. However, at the end of the day, basketball is such a small part of their total life. I think there is a reason there is a deflated basketball on someone's desk......

I also think players who have matured have a different perspective many times, compared to, let's say, the guys graduating this year.

Last night as Carolina made their 12-0 run to erase a 64-59 deficit, I thought back to 10 years ago in the Meadowlands and our charge at the end of regulation and into overtime to get to the Final Four.
Despite the ending to the '08 season I remember the 15-3 Big East record. Watching the Hoyas that season was a pleasant distraction from family illness. The Porter years were great- beating Syracuse in our last Big East appearance in the Dome and then holding them to 39 points in DC are great memories.
Thank you for all you did. I was proud to root for you and your team.

I was a senior during the '07 run. I was at all 3 games of the BE tournament. I was at the Vandy and UNC games. I loaded up a minivan full of guys and drove to Atlanta for the Final Four. That team felt like my team. I will forever feel an intrinsic bond with that team. And I will be forever grateful to JTIII for helping create those memories that will last a lifetime. Gone from the sidelines, but never forgotten. Wishing him all the best in whatever he does from here on out.

I have to say that this thread is way too short. I'm hoping it is just because people are so anxious about who's next, and that once that happens (and that thread hits triple digits) folks will work their way back to this one.

You were at WVU for the Ewing block at the buzzer? If so, you rock.

I caught the Hoyas early in the '06-'07 season against Fairfield in Bridgeport. I stood at the edge of the court for warmups and was amazed at what an athletic specimen Macklin was as a freshman. I knew we had a good squad in place and would go far. So much talent on one roster.

Forgot I went to that game until you referenced it Bigs. Was very lucky that year - probably went to a dozen games as a suburban NYC guy.
