Thank you Coach, I love you, I really mean that. I personally was nowhere near ready to see you go, and am pretty much crushed. Thanks for everything, all the best in the future.

Thanks Coach. While many of us believed it was time to move on, I believe the vast majority of us had a great deal of respect for you.

this really is a sad day for me. i was not part of the pitchfork segment of the fan base demanding a change. i was really torn on firing III. i respect the decision but it better be an improvement and not some retread like amaker.

This had to happen but it is still sad. A decent, humble man. I just re-watched this and remembered how much joy he brought us in those early days. Thank you Coach!!

Its a damn shame the snowball got rolling as fast and as hard as it did. I'll always respect the way the program was run and the honesty and integrity that was part of the Thompsons Georgetown Hoyas brand. Thanks JT3 and good luck!

Yes. Thank you. I do believe there was some off the court issues that didn't let JTIII to focus like he was able to do in the early years. Good Luck in your future!!!!

Coach, thanks for January 21, 2006. Thanks for the Final Four. Thanks for the class with which you represented the university at all times. Exactly. Was at that game and is one of my, and my son's, fondest memories.

It's been a very difficult season to be a Hoyas fan, but it pales in comparison to what you've been through this season, Coach.
Many thanks for everything you have done for this team and university. The 2007 BET and the 2007 Meadowlands run (which ran through Vanderbilt ten years ago today) were just amazing to be able to witness in person. Although we fell short in Atlanta, will never forget the experiences my friends and me had while there.
Echo 'Vadi's comment regarding recharging at home and getting back at it. Will be rooting for you wherever you land.

Coach Thompson, thank you for so many wonderful memories. Thank you for giving a new generation of Georgetown fans a taste of the Final Four again, and thanks for all that you did on and off the court for this school. I will say a prayer for you and your family and know with every confidence that you will go on and continue to do great things. All the best.

Thank you to JTIII. 13 yrs ago you resurrected our program and made us all believe "WE ARE GEORGETOWN" again.
Bittersweet day
So many great memories and even a few good songs from the III era.

Thank you for your service, Coach Thompson. Some of my best memories of the JT III era:
*the win over Ohio State to get to the Sweet 16, *the weekend in the Meadowlands when we beat Vandy in a thriller and UNC with an incredible comeback (I was sitting in the UNC section and mid-comeback shouted "they're collapsing!" of the Tar Heels), *Chris Wright dissecting the zone in the Carrier Dome, *Otto Porter and team beating Syracuse at Verizon in our final regular season conference match up, *Tyler Adams getting in the game and scoring versus Seton Hall.
JT III left a great job coaching his alma mater to take the opportunity (and risk) at Georgetown. He helped us get to a Final Four and win three conference titles during a period when the Big East was clearly the deepest conference in the country. He was loyal to his players and helped get many of them in the NBA and other professional leagues. I don't remember him ever denigrating a player, even when he disciplined them for academic or behavioral transgressions. During his tenure, he also recruited a number of high character players. I don't want to judge his competitors, but I think it is fair to say that men's college basketball coaches, as a group, do not stand out as educators who model the behavior that we want/expect to see among their players. I do think that JTIII is/was an excellent role model. I wish him very well in the next chapter of his career.

This simply isn't fair, Syracuse will keep a Jim Boeheim behind all the corruption but we let a pillar of our community go for a couple of bad years! You demanded and taught professionalism, character and integrity and I Thank You Sir! You will be missed.

Take care JT3. I'm sure you'll land on your feet quickly with another coaching gig somewhere.

If there's justice in the world, or if God has a sense of humor, JT3 will wind up back in the Ivy League or at a mid-major and beat a bunch of 3 seeds in the NCAA Tournament.
It was good to be back. He's definitely leaving us something to shoot for.
