I do not think the school could have chosen a more noble or respectful head coach. We will always have very fond memories of JT3, plenty of incredible wins that should be what we remember first and foremost from his tenure as head coach. Thank you, JT3.

I 2nd that Trill. I will freely admit that i was one that felt we needed new direction at the top but appreciate fully what he has meant to the program and being a role model in terms of how a coach should conduct himself on and off the court.

A class act who resurrected the Hoyas, and who will be missed on and off the court. Thanks, JT3, and good luck.

My fandom was forged in the dark twilight years of JTII and Esh's tenure, so I will always greatly appreciate the respect and joy JTIII brought back to the program. It was a revelation.

Many thanks to the fond memories JT III provided while he was our coach but it was definitely time to part ways. He will land a job by next year and I have no doubt he will be successful wherever he lands. I wish nothing but the best for JT III and his family.

Such a stand up guy, such a class act, we were lucky to have him as long as we did! If our next coach can give us the run JT3 did....I'd take that all day long. He will be missed.

Been a long time since I posted, and I agree a change had to be made. But yes, great thanks to JT III, returning us to prominence and doing it with class.

It was a difficult basketball decision, but I hate the way these last few weeks have transpired. He's a good man who resurrected the program and represented it as well as possible. Hate to see it end like this, but I wish him all the best. Thanks, Coach.

Many thanks to The Man 2.0
I will always respect the way he lead our young men and the integrity with which he ran our program.

Agree with these sentiments. I can't disagree that the time had come, but he represented the university and the program with class. Hopefully his successor will do the same.

My support of JT3 has long been based on his good record, his success at bringing the program back from the doldrums in 2004, his decade of getting to the NCAA with excellent seeds, and doing everything in a classy way. The man is not without his faults, and I have acknowledged that there were problems needing fixing (like our defense and fouling), but I still think JT3 is a good coach. If he decides to coach somewhere else, I am confident he will be successful.
Now, the important thing is to hire a good replacement. I do not want to see the university hire someone who has already failed at a high-major program (or multiple). I realize that mid-major coaches and assistants can be risky, but at least there is upside there, whereas the best we can hope for in retread type is getting to the tournament occasionally. If that wasn't good enough for JT3, why should it be good enough for a replacement? Regardless, I will support any new coach until that person gives me a reason not to do so.
Lastly, I am very disappointed in the way the administration handled the situation. If JT3 was going to go, the time to do so would have been a few weeks ago. Now that some of the better options are off the table, I am not sure we will end up with someone as good as we could have had. But, we shall see. I do think the administration's poor handling of the situation greatly intensified the toxic atmosphere surrounding the program, and I truly hope they learn from their mistakes in moving forward. I also think that some fans (a minority for sure) also played a highly negative role in this situation, and the surrounding environment. It legitimately creates a risk that new coaches may not be willing to step into a situation so toxic. But, I hope I am wrong.
I am very appreciative to JT3 and all he's done for the program. I think the many great things he's done for the program (namely, making it relevant after a period of neglect her his father and Esherick) have largely been ignored by many of those opposed to him. If there ever comes a time in the future where JT3 can play a valuable role in our program, I would welcome him with open arms.

Coach, thanks for January 21, 2006. Thanks for the Final Four. Thanks for the class with which you represented the university at all times.

I echo these sentiments. I thought it was time for a change and am gratified to see that it happened, but III is a classy man and he led our program with dignity.

I am at a loss for words and have a feeling I have not experienced since...well, 2004. Today is a dark day for Hoya basketball as well as Georgetown University.
Thanks cannot begin to express my gratitude for the way III has handled the job these last thirteen years...I am just sad that we are parting with him about thirteen years too soon.

Thanks for the win over Carolina in the Meadowlands...was there with Carolina fans and one of my happiest memories of Hoya Hoops. A good man who brought us back. Just time for a new voice.

I wish this hadn't gone down. Whoever follows has huge shoes to fill.
Thanks to JT3 - I think he handled everything with class, he rebuilt the program, weathered a conference change, managed to do it all while having one of the most competitive schedules in the country and opened the program up to students and fans. I thought the schedule and the way we handled the media/students were the big things a new coach could do right off the bat - he did them better than I ever expected.
I don't know about anyone else, but I loved watching the Princeton. I remember watching a game at Providence in Monroe's sophomore year where we had a 10-consecutive-pass possession that ended up in an open layup. I got home and watched that possession over and over, because it was just so methodical and patient and in the end resulted in an extremely high percentage shot. Stuff like that has been just beautiful to watch as a fan.

Coach, thanks for January 21, 2006. Thanks for the Final Four. Thanks for the class with which you represented the university at all times. For me, the Duke game, before a rocking crowd, was the epitome of III' s approach and obviously one of the great games in school history. I 'll always remember him for that, first among all else, and am sorry to see him go. Thanks Coach.

Thanks for your service and dedication Coach.
Thank you great wins and a trip to the Final Four.
Thank you for no scandal and little drama. Take a rest; enjoy your family and come back and show everyone you can still coach, if not here.
