Jon Wallace is the only option I don't think Wallace is ready yet, but if we're looking at internal options Sydney Johnson is a better one than Pat Ewing.

Complete hearsay. But have heard that job is very attractive. Lots of coaches and agents checking in already. Including some back channel work by Shaka Smarts camp. Really hope they play this out and not just jump at Amaker without duong their due diligence. It would be wise of Shaka Smart to leave Texas while he can on his own terms.

Man, I would love to go\e back to Pops style ball, full court press, waves of fresh players in and our. Shaka Smart would be cool.

It wasn't the "groundswell of support" that got JT3 fired. Both the President & AD were firmly behind keeping JT3. It was the Board seeing the downfall of "Georgetown basketball". Tremont Waters wanting his release & players possibly transferring was the final straw for the Board. The Board overruled the President & AD and fired JT3. so who is making the decision on the new coach? the board or the pres/AD? That's the big question. If the President & AD can't be trusted by the board to fire a coach, how can they trust them to hire the right coach.

Just spitballing some coaching names for consideration, in alphabetical order and not in any particular order of preference or likelihood: Tommy Amaker (Harvard) Jeff Capel (Duke assistant coach) Ed Cooley (Providence) Tom Crean (former Indiana) Johnny Dawkins (Central Florida, former Stanford) Bryce Drew (Vanderbilt) Baker Dunleavy (Villanova assistant coach) Jim Engels (Columbia, former NJIT) Patrick Ewing (NBA Charlotte Hornets assistant coach) Mark Gottfried (former North Carolina State) John Groce (former Illinois) Dan Hurley (Rhode Island) King Rice (Monmouth) Lorenzo Romar (former Washington) On this list, I think the following aren't good choices: Amaker (not good enough), Romar (huge failure with the number 1 draft pick this coming lotto), Dawkins (even worse than Amaker), King Rice (cannot even make the NCAA team at Monmouth). Here's a list of some as I see it (and courtesy of discussions with a friend): Dream Hires We Almost Certainly Won't Get: Gregg Marshall, Few Very Good Hires We Likely Won't Get, but Maybe Could: Hurley, Archie Miller Solid Hires But Unlikely: Tony Bennett, Mick Cronin. Retreads/Do They Fit Our Culture / Risks That Are Better Than Amaker: Crean, Kelvin Sampson (violations, but turned around Houston hugely, with no sense of current violations), Tim Jankovich (unproven), Kermit Davis (NCAA problems long ago, but successful at Middle Tennessee), Dan Muller (Illinois State; young guy but little success so far). Edit: I don't see any way Shaka Smart leaves Texas for Georgetown, but I'd probably take him over anybody on this list except maybe Marshall, Few, Hurley, or Miller. Maybe Bennett and Cronin too.

If Shaka brings Matt Coleman, come on.

What the status of St. Anthony's in JC? It has been struggling ad the rumors continually swirl that it will be shutting down. Don't think Hurley Sr. would take this gig, but I would take him in a heartbeat.

I'd love to see Shaka Smart, but the buyout on his contract at Texas would make the argument about JT3's buyout silly.

Not sure he would be interested in it (he turned down Rutgers several times), and not sure if hiring a 70 year old as a first time college coach is the best route to travel.

On the other hand, if the Board made the final decision, shouldn't the onus be on the Board to find a replacement that will be a success?

Anyone with any hint of NCAA issues, and who basically could not pass a background check done by the FBI, should not be an option.

More seriously for the university, if DeGioia was overruled on this, it's hard to think he is long for his own position.

Mick Cronin is an interesting candidate. With the uncertainty of the longterm viability of the American, he may be willing to make the move. I doubt Tony Bennett would leave the west coast, seeing how long he's been at Saint Mary's. I think you're correct about Marshall and Few (that's why I didn't include them). Archie Miller would be a great choice, in my opinion, but I think he's got his eyes on a specific job in a Power 5 conference, or he would have left Dayton before now. I think you're short-changing King Rice, whose teams failed to make the NCAAs because of MAAC tournament losses, and not because of regular season failures (that doesn't mean I want him, just that I wouldn't discount him as a candidate).

Tony Bennett's NCAA resume looks like he could be JTIII 2.0 Look at his NCAA record the last 4 years: 2014: as a No. 1 seed, 61-59, to No. 4 Michigan State in the Sweet 16. 2015: as a No. 2 seed, 60-54, to No. 7 Michigan State in the second round. 2016: as a No. 1 seed, 68-62, to No. 10 Syracuse in the Elite Eight 2017: as a No. 5 seed, 65-39, to No. 4 Florida in the second round.
