So just to be clear--Rutgers fired their coach, and with the new guy now is improving?

I live a mile from Rutgers, season ticket holder for football and go to several of their MBB games each year at the RAC. At the beginning of the season, if you told me Rutgers would play their last game of the season AFTER us, I would have bet you my house it would never happen.
The fact is Rutgers has about 1/4 the talent as GU, but Pikiell had them playing with twice the focus/intensity. Solid rebounding and defensive team, with no talent to score.
But should we really be throwing stones, after all they had 14 wins too, against worse teams, but still ended up with the same record.

So just to be clear--Rutgers fired their coach, and with the new guy now is improving? Pikiell is about 20X the coach as the prior coach, RU alum Eddie Jordan. The team's improvement in terms of on-court attitude and effort is astounding. He needs to recruit, but they won 4 conference games (counting B1G tourney) versus 1 each of the last 2 years.

I still have faith that things will turn around. I totally respect your opinion and I'm rooting like heck for him to turn it around. My question is after a 69-62 record the last 4 years, how long would you give him to turn it around if you were making the decision? I'm not arguing your position, just curious. I liked how the team performed when we had a true point...Chris Wright and Markel Starks. Gotta see how he does with Waters. I think next year should tell us all we need to know.

A qualified point guard is always good to have. Shame his General Manager couldn't get him one...

Two points. If Marquette is going in the right direction why were they the last team we beat this year? And we beat them very easily in what was definitely our best game. Second, I really think our next coach should be a hungry assistant who studied under one of the greats. Regardless of what we think of these greats they know how to coach and their assistants have to have picked something up. I would love to see a Louisville, W. Virginia, Carolina or Duke coach take over at GU. Regardless of wins or losses, gotta be a lot more enjoyable to watch. Perhaps, but this logic could also lead to Craig Esherick.

But as great as JT2 was I would still take Coach K, Dean Smith, Roy Williams, Huggins and my all time favorite Rick Pitino over him.

If Esh was any good and had any confidence he wouldn't have sit as an assistant in this successful program for that long. That writing was all over the wall for bad hire.

He could face more transfers. Transfers wouldn't be a terrible thing. This team is practically talentless and now, with the Waters decommit, we're going to have less talent next year. It's more or less immaterial whether anyone transfers. I have zero confidence any player improves except Peak and a big "I don't know" on Mosley. Losing Peak would be a massive blow, but what's the difference between 9th and 10th? Regardless of who is coaching, there's no realistic path to a good team now for probably 3-4 years and that feels like a pipe dream in and of itself. Thank God for VIllanova (shudder) and Xavier and Butler and so on. Without them, our program is literally done. But since the Big East has some cred, still, with the right coach, it can be resurrected. But it is going to be forever.

Okay, let's review the last few weeks in D.C. sports:
--Hoyas lose their last six games and get bumped out of the BE tournament by ST JOHN'S. --Redskins fire GM because he's a drunk, a fact they knew when they hired him. --Our evil twin, Nova, wins BE regular season championship and demolishes Creighton for BE Tourney championship. Only 6 more easy wins away from second National Championship in a row, a feat we could have accomplished 32 years ago if not for NOVA! --Hoyas top recruit basically says, "I want out of this dumpster fire" --Oh yeah, a blizzard is heading our way on Wednesday.
Have I missed anything?
