I’m not. What benefit would waiting until Spring have for him? See if Ewing leaves? What additional info does he need about his decision? He is keeping his options open, and so must we.....which is maybe why we are still recruiting both Moncrief and Sibley.

From what I understand, signing is a benefit for the player to guarantee their scholarship. I don’t see any risk of him getting recruited over by Georgetown. Sure, signing is another level of commitment for the player to make to the school. But, we have seen players ask to be released from their NLI in instances where the coach has been fired or left, or in instances where the coach has not been fired or left. So you ask what benefit would waiting until spring have for him? Maybe the question should be what benefit would signing in the Fall have for him in this situation.

To follow through with action on the verbal commitment made. If the verbal commitment is really a commitment, there is no need to postpone. The analogy is getting engaged vs. getting married. When someone postpones marriage after engagement, it is rarely because they can’t wait to spend their life with their fiancé.

I understand the player’s perspective. It protects the player if the coach leaves or is let go.
As a fan it is frustrating but I would do the same thing if I was in the player’s shoes.

Using your analogy, the situation is that Terrance and the Hoyas got engaged over the summer and Terrance said he wanted a spring wedding but the in laws (you and other fans) want a fall wedding.

The entire NCAA system is built to take advantage of the players and make millions of $$$$. This is a player who is using a little discretion, totally within the rules, to ensure he is signing with the school that is the best fit.
Good on Terrance.
We will welcome you if and when the time is right.

And for the love of mercy, none of this taking photos with the bride BEFORE the wedding. You don't get to see her until after the knot is tied!!!

Is he truly committed if Pat stays or is he looking to shop around at other colleges?

Given all the unknowns in college ball... things happen that never would have been anticipated (e.g coaches leave, NCAA violations, kids leave/arrive, etc), it is perfectly reasonable to wait until spring to sign.

I mean we win the national championship and Pat gets his dream to coach in the NBA ... is Terrance a Coach Broadus type of guy?

I guess the only "risk" to Terrance is that we have a fantastic season (gotta improve about 600% to do so) and there are suddenly higher rated players flocking to wear the blue and gray, and the offer of a scholarship is withdrawn before he can sign!

Is he truly committed if Pat stays or is he looking to shop around at other colleges? There is zero chance that Ewing is going anywhere after this season, unless it's Ewing's own choice, and I think that's extremely unlikely. So I think that should be an extremely minor factor in any recruit's decision-making.

Even if a kid is signed he can still ask out of his commitment. Happens all the time. You're not going to force a kid because of a loi to attend if he doesn't want to be part of your program. See Tremont Waters. See Jamorko Pickett.
Recruiting these kids never stops, even after they get on campus. It just is what it is.
Even after a commitment you have to treat them like you're still a suitor. That's why coaches still send assistants and show up to games after they're committed.

I think we honor a kid and his word. He probably came forward with this statement because he was trying to quell the storm coming his way. If he comes great, I think he would fit in nicely with the program qnd would help in local recruiting. If he doesn't, at least Coach gave it his all and we look for another piece. For those of you in the know and may have relationships with past or current players, do they read these boards?

Hope he comes but if not the late signing period is no longer just leftovers. There is quality in decommits and in 5th year transfers. Besides with the apparent need for a quality shooter if this or another scholarship opens up then the coach may need to look at the late period closely to fill the SG position.

I think he is solid...especially in the comment that he advised/and we were aware that he always intended to sign late.. I'm really looking forward to him joining the program, as I think he'll make a significant contribution...versatile player/winner...
