It's really pretty simple. Copeland has used 3 seasons of eligibility. As a mid-season transfer, he cannot play on another team until after classes end in December 2017. So, without a medical redshirt/waiver, he can only play half a season. Or he can sit out next year and play in 2018-2019. I think it's very likely he gets a medical redshirt if he really did have (or will have) back surgery, and likely would get the year of eligibility back, so he can play another 1.5 years. But without that, it's only a half year. What happens if he still can't actually play and to clarify I mean the way he played for us?

miss a player that had no interest in playing d or rebounding and couldn't make a jumper? not really He was our leader prior to leaving, right? not sure about that but he played in 7 games and had more than 4 rebounds once. he had 7 rebounds in his last 5 games (81 minutes) as a hoya.

Truth is MD & Agua aren't rebounding well either.. MD has 6 boards in the last 2 games.. Agua is barely playing now, he hasn't played more than 10 minutes in the last 4.. In 29 minutes over the last 4 games he has 5 rebounds..

Unfortunately "others" includes Gtown's opponents too.. I'm not trying to tell you Ike is a better rebounder than MD or Agua, I'm just pointing out that the players tabbed to replace Ike aren't doing very well in the rebounding department..

Derrcison is getting 4.4 rebounds in 21 min compared to Issacs 3.3 rebounds in 19.6 minutes while shooting over 40% from 3 to copelands 0%. Agau gets 2.7 rebs in 14 min plus blocks .8 a game compared to copelands .0 and shooting 50% from the field compared to Copelands .27%.

Isn't it possible that Ike's regression this year is due to his back problems? How do we explain last year (except the Marquette came of course)? Back problems?

I don't think this is the best gauge of Ike's rebounding abilities. He was more or less just floating in his final 4 appearances this year. I'm sure he was wrestling with issues that affected his play well before the transfer was announced. 2 seasons ago - when he started a majority of BE games and played all of his minutes at the 4 - he was the 6th best defensive rebounder in the conference. That dipped last year when he played farther from the hoop -- but he was still 16th in DReb in conference. He was a solid rebounder with more production than Agau or MD have had to date. And I still think there was room to get better. Defense overall..?? Not so much. I think MD can be nearly that good -- but he has to get his butt in the paint on both ends of the floor. It kills us that someone so proficient from the line - and with such a significant physical advantage on most defenders - goes to the line as little as Marcus does. If he could whip up an inside game to go with his shooting touch, he'd be a monster. I think MD ultimately has a higher upside overall (more unique skillset), but don't short-change Ike as a rebounder. He wasn't bad.

One explanation would be that his only role that season was rebounding, and once he was asked to contribute more broadly across the board he was not able to deliver. Just one explanation though.
