Georgetown Hoyas Level of panic: Your 4-year-old smiles and tells you, "I washed your phone today because it was dirty." Here are the first four Big East games for a 6-4 Georgetown team that entered Thanksgiving at 2-4 before a slate of sub-100 games helped John Thompson III's program move above .500: at Marquette, vs. Xavier, at Providence, vs Butler. Marquette is growing. Xavier is a second-weekend squad (likely more) and a Big East contender. A Providence squad with a top-30ish defense has lost just once since Nov. 17. And Butler just beat Cincy, the favorite in the American, by double digits. That gantlet could swallow a Georgetown squad ranked 43rd in the BPI. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/18268069/finding-teams-panicking-college-basketball

I think this is a great thing. Before we used to be worried that the BE wouldn't provide enough quality wins. Now we have the opposite problem.
We're either good or we're not, but at least the BE gives us opportunity to turn it around.

Well, the nice thing is that after the next six games, we'll pretty much know whether we have something or not.

Meh: Xavier is worse than they were last year and we still were able to take one from them. I've seen providence twice in person including their big win over URI. They're not better than us. Marquette isn't any better than us either. Butler also don't see them as better than they were last year and we should've beaten them at least once last year with a worse team than we have this year. Yeah they beat the favorite in the american, but that's the equivalent of beating the favorite in the patriot league at this point.
This team is going to make noise come BE play. No reason to panic, the team should be licking their chops at all the big wins they're going to rack up.

On the bright side, ESPN is acknowledging the existence of the Big East Conference in this article. I'll take those little victories when they occur.

Who let HoyaSinceBirth on this board with that optimism? That has to be a violation of some board rule.

Also ... how did ESPN not write this article immediately after Arkansas State? ?

We're either good or we're not, but at least the BE gives us opportunity to turn it around. We should never have been worried about that. Delusion is the one constant around here. Guess it keeps us all sane.

Somewhere ahead of Villanova, no doubt. I expect to see them meeting in the Final Four, with Arkansas State winning by twelve. Take it to the bank.

Stop living in the past man. We're not the same team that lost to Arkansas St. Full disclosure I only saw the first 5 minutes of the Arkansas St game so I don't have the visceral reaction to it most do. And we lost to worse teams than Arkansas St last year and we still held our own in the Big East. The Arkansas St game has no bearing on how we do going forward.

Yeah we beat Xavier @ Xavier by 9, Beat Marquette by 10, and Creighton by 1. 3 teams that people are acting like we have no chance against. We also lost to Villanova by only 5 points, Providence by 4 and 3, Butler by 3 in OT, Marquette by 1. We lost to Seton Hall by single digits both times. Only 4 loses were by double digits. That's holding our own. It's not where we want to be. We want to do more than hold our own, but We were competitive and probably should've won at least 3 more games than we did. Which would've put us at 10-8 and squarely on the bubble.

Take that away, and we might have been a tournament team. As it is constituted now, I think our team can beat good opponents if our shooting is on. Right now, that's Peak, Pryor, and one of the PGs, plus some contribution from Govan/Hayes/Agau/Derrickson. Basically, we have won all our games where Pryor and Peak have collectively played well, and we've lost the rest. The encouraging thing about the LaSalle game is that we won even though Pryor sat much of the first half and players other than Pryor and Peak contributed.
