I really have to weigh in here. I agree that the numbers make it look like we held our own. But having watched every game (and attended 5) I distinctly recall that in many of our games last year we managed to make the loses close but were never really in the game. Plus in several of our OOC wins we blew big leads and won by the skin of our teeth. Sorry but I agree that last year was a dumpster fire and no matter how you play with the numbers we stunk. Now that said, considering how much better we are this year than last I really think beating Creighton, Seton Hall, Butler, Providence, Xavier, and maybe even Nova at home is doable. We can score against anyone this year (Nova defense may be the exception) but our season will boil down to whether or not we can keep other teams from scoring. DEFENSE!!!!

I know it's silly to play the "if" game, but I can't resist: I think our problems this year are basically due to the meltdown in the last 30-60 seconds against Maryland. That was demoralizing because it was to a crosstown rival whose fan base I hate with a passion, and but for that last-minute collapse we had that game won. I think we lost to Arkansas State only because we were still in a funk after losing to the Twerps. We were absolutely flat in that game in McDonough. Beat Maryland and Arkansas State and we're 8-2 with losses against quality teams in Wisconsin and Ok State, and with wins over quality teams in Maryland and Oregon.
I also see bright spots in improved play from Derrickson and Jessie, and personally I had no idea Akoy would be as good as he has turned out to be. Of course Cuse in the Dome is going to be very tough, but I am NOT giving up on this team. I actually think we can beat anybody in the BE except maybe Nova this year. We're not better than everybody else, but they aren't that better than us, if at all, either.

Always love the extended breaks during December. Plenty of time to forget the bad and reminisce on the good...not only for us but for the players as well. I am pragmatically optimistic for the rest of the year and the season. The practice has been useful but I hope Ike leaving didn't knock everyone off kilter too much. A large part of closing out games is smart leaders that can dominate the ball; at this point both LJ and Pryor can fit the bill (most of the time). Both of them have had a high mpg their entire career but that many minutes is tough on anyone's body. They'll need support and we have plenty of talented guys that can step up, but the key to a successful season will be consistency from everyone. Finally, ESPN needs to get in the future: phones are waterproof/resistant nowadays and haven't they heard of the fancy new technology of JT3's offense/JT2's building. Speaking of ESPN, can anyone with insider share Bilas' thoughts: www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/18268314/the-bilas-index-give-true-look-best-68-teams-all-land

The Hoyas have talent but have not played to that talent yet. Isaac Copeland is transferring, so there will be less competition for minutes up front. With Bradley Hayes back in the middle and Rodney Pryor and L.J. Peak in the backcourt, Georgetown should be better than No. 63.I'd like to see Govan, Agua & Derrickson split the bulk of the time @ the 4/5 spots in the coming games.. They have the potential to keep the court spread better than Hayes can but they must rebound.. Hayes has more boards in 6 games(39) than Agua has in 10(33).. I love LJ but he needs to rebound better also, there's no reason for a player with his athletic abilities to be averaging less than 4 boards per game..

I'm sure we're just on the end of his list this week because we're on the network. I really think you can't discount Hayes. He doesn't have the range but if he's shooting well and rebounding he's effective. If not, then limit his minutes and go small/Govan. Agreed that LJ should definitely rebound better but he's probably our best 2 on 1 defender so he's sent back to stop the break. On defense there is no excuse though, can be better.

If by "held our own" you mean won 3 games against teams other than St Johns and DePaul.....I agree. So what would qualify as holding our own in your book? To me, a .500 record is holding your own. I will say we held our own when Bradley was in the lineup....once he was out, not so much.

Everyone's ability to compete is contingent on maintaining health, that's nothing new. Never said he wasn't in this lineup or that we couldn't compete/hold our own this year. The comment I responded to said we held our own in the Big East last year. I disagree....part of the reason may be that we didn't have Bradley for a good part of the season, but I still wouldn't say we held our own. If someone else thinks we did....that's fine! We will see what happens this season as the games play out. I am certainly hoping for the best.
