I'm a happy camper. We may struggle to score in the halfcourt, but that's why we are pressing. Glad it wasn't some token press. We clearly committed to it all off-season. Love the tempo. Yeah, this and fouling, of course, will be the story of the season. The good news is that we were in no way ready for this game last year. This year, we clearly were.

HELLLL NOOOOO!!. ZO is playing with 5 mins left in the game. Stupid and dumb. Thats why they didn't sign Jaren Jackson Jr. So done!!! This is not the only reason why Jaren Jackson Jr., chose to go elsewhere. Correction: that's not even 1 of the reasons JJ didn't come here.

And no minutes for Reggie. Injured? They showed JTIII talking to Reggie a couple of times. Have to think there may a little nagging injury, coach did not want to take a chance on aggravating it? Did not see that but it would explain the failure to enter the game. I know that many criticize the kid, but I do not believe he cannot contribute as a specialist. I root hard for the kids that chose to stay even absent playing time. Hayes, Bowen, and now Reggie come to mind.

Pryor almost broke the record of 29 in a half by Frank Hollandoaner in 1966. LIC were you there? Was that the St. Joe's game?

Much better team this year. Faster, deeper, more talented BUT still not liking the half court offense. Watch top 10 teams play and it's all about dribble penetration. We still get into an offensive rut when we try to work that neo-princeton offense. And yes, Govan is still a work in progress. JT3 should make him watch replays of the Upstate 7 foot 300 pounder blowing by him.

Love that even after that performance that showed we're pressing and playing faster like people wanted, we're still finding things to complain about. Smh. We took our foot off the gas and still put up over 100pts and won going away. The team was up 68-35 @ halftime but JT3 looked/acted genuinely mad about how the half finished defensively, he looked like a coach who's not going to settle this season.. Ronnie was critical of Govan during the game also.. If posters see things they didn't like, what's the harm in discussing it? As well as the team played today, it's not close to a finished product.. Why not discuss things to make the season & program better? There's a difference between: 1) celebrating the win and then pointing out areas for improvement 2) Only pointing out flaws with out celebrating the win like what was going on. 3) Nit picking the rotation after one game with out any information. which was also happening. There's plenty to improve upon: rebounding especially, but there's no reason to to celebrate today after the season we had last year.

Thanks for the Periscope! No prob. I just know how mad I would've been not being able to watch. Sorry about the quality but its hard to keep the iPad steady while trying to watch the game and my hand got tired lol. As for the game I am about as discouraged as I could be by such a huge win. I thought the half court offense and rebounding looked as bad as in the past which was very discouraging. I also thought Jessie looked pretty bad. I didnt see his total turnovers but there were way too many. He also hardly ever made the right pass once he got stuck. His defense was poor on their big as well and his rebounding was a big reason we struggled on the glass. The one good take away besides the tempo/press is that we didn't get gashed by their PG. They made some tough shots and I don't think they are nearly as terrible as we made them look. There were some terrible breakdowns once they beat the press but I think they will get fixed as the season goes on. I was generally happy with the defense except for get the defensive rebounding. From going to Kenner I knew how great Jagan and Rodney were so that is not a surprise. Rodney is the reason this team will accomplish whatever it does this year. He is a difference maker. I was really high on this team going into the year and this game showed why. I will be pretty disappointed if the Hoyas don't beat Maryland.

Frank scored his 29 first half points against NYU, when they were good in bball. Televised game and then we got crucified by the NY press after the game, which we won. Were you there drq.

Was at the game Couple of observations -deepest team in YEARS -stuck with full court pressure and yielded 25 turnovers -quickness on wings and backcourt -Mosely is a strong, smart true point guard. Loved his play, He is also a pretty strong looking kid. -Mulmore was a little stiff and trying to fit in. Showed speed and felt more comfortable as the game went on. I don't think he is going to be a true point guard but gives us a good presence off the bench -Pryor-real deal as advertised. Good court presence and a real quick release.
-Govan can shoot but has bad hands so doesn't rebound well at all. Rebounding will be our biggest weakness. Hayes will definitely be a bid help this year when he starts playing.. -Derrickson didn't play much until second half. HE can rebound and will have to play more. I think Mouring will not get a lot of minutes. LOVE kid but not sure where he fits into the rotation -Peak-strong and quick. Don't see much of a changes since late last year.
Biggest problems from last year remain: - -one on one defense still pretty horrid. At 70 I could stil put a ball fake on Campbell and get by him. Mostly, Mulmore and Pryor will help Hard to tell at this level of competition. -rebounding
A better team. But a " new team" Sorry Bulldog, I think they are a distinct underdog of the Terps Tuesday.

Yes the rebounding was horrible....giving up too many second chance points. Yes the turnovers, particularly Govan's, were often maddening.
But that was a darn good start. And what is most exciting is that this team can play much better, especially in the halfcourt.
Peak, Copeland, and Govan can all play better. And will. Derrickson isn't even himself yet and wasn't anywhere as awesome as he will be. Bradley Hayes didn't even play for God's sakes!
Akoy, Mulmore, Mosely and to some extent Pryor will make improvements as they get more acclimated playing real games with the team. The point guards on the team had a combined zero turnovers!
As frustrating as Govan was at times he still displayed an arsenal of half-court scoring capabilities, and had some fine moments passing the ball. Mourning was blocked inexcusably on one play but in his limited minutes displayed once more an ability to rebound in traffic.
My nitpicks are Govan's turnovers and non-existent rebounding, the horrid rebounding of Copeland and Peak's missed free throws. Much work to be done but the TALENT is there. The Hoyas played a cream puff team and put them away like they were supposed. I ask for a game in which the outcome wouldn't still be in doubt by halftime. It wasn't. I asked for a game in which the Hoyas managed to score over 80 points. They did....easily. I was hoping III was serious about pressing and running. Turns out he was. People want to complain about this outcome? Go ahead. I'll take this type of blowout victory on a day in which our returning players weren't even up to par. Bring on those Terps.

v A better team. But a " new team" Sorry Bulldog, I think they are a distinct underdog of the Terps Tuesday. Really? The Terps are relying on six freshmen and four sophs. They have only one reliable and proven player in Melo, who is the only returning double-figure scorer on the team. They struggled mightily at home last night against American University. They shot only 38% from the field. Despite the slow pace of game they had 19 turnovers. They were down to American with about five minutes to go in the game. They have little inside presence and no quality size players (6'9 or taller). They barely beat last season's Gtown team on their homecourt last season. This time around they are much worse, Gtown is better than they were at this time last year and the game will be at best/worst neutral in terms of homecourt advantage. And despite all of this you think the Hoyas are not just underdogs but "distinct" underdogs? Okay.

Well, I got season tickets this year and will have the chance to see games regularly for the first time since college. Now, I guess that means I get to offer my regular unenlightened commentary without the filter of television coverage.
My general assessment is that I couldn't be happier to start a season. We are clearly an improved team, on both sides of the ball. This was the type of game that we would have struggled to put away last season. This season, we had the game in hand well before the half. My biggest take-away on both sides of the ball so far is aggression. We were far more aggressive and athletic throughout the game. A few weeks ago, JTIII talked about the lack of athleticism on last year's team, and he pledged that this year's team would be different. At the time, I was skeptical because we had so many players from last year's team returning. Now, I'm a believer. We used our length and quickness to overwhelm USCU early and often. We used that same strength to get inside earlier in the shot clock, and, for one of the first times I can remember as a Georgetown fan, we attacked the basket early. We often seemed to run and play for an early shot, but if it wasn't there, we were comfortable in the half-court. It was a smooth game without a lot of mistakes offensively. The body language seemed good, and the players were communicating well on the floor.
Defensively, we are a work in progress. This year's defense was certainly more aggressive than last year. We ran a press for much of the game, and we often set traps and went for turnovers, with some success. The constant pressure meant that USCU rarely got into a consistent rhythm. Our fouls were also way down, especially in the first half. We fouled a bit in the second half, but we never really got into foul trouble. The big weaknesses this game were rebounding and over-helping. We struggled to get our hands on the ball, and we also over-helped at times, which led to some wide open 3s. That could come back to hurt us against better competition.
In terms of team makeup, I think we learned a lot. To my eyes, the starting five are clearly better than the reserves on the bench. I didn't really expect that, with so many questions about the lineup. The only question I see going forward is between Mosely and Campbell. Campbell had a solid day offensively and ran the point well, but Mosely seemed better able to penetrate inside and was absolutely tenacious on defense. I like Mosely's game a lot. LJ Peak was the LJ Peak I enjoyed last season, always running with a high motor. He was effective throughout the game. Copeland was also good today. He opened the game with the first five points, and he was engaged throughout. The team played at its best with him on the floor. He did get frustrated a few times, notably late in the game when a couple close calls didn't go his way. We need him to stay engaged throughout the year. Finally, Pryor is a star, an absolute star. He's going to be a ton of fun to watch this year. There's also things to like about our reserves; most notably, I thought Kaleb Johnson had stepped up his offensive game. He seemed a lot more comfortable on the offensive end today.
All in all, a lot to look forward to. I'm not ready to book tickets to Phoenix just yet, but this is going to be a fun team. We are clearly improved, and Maryland will be a great benchmark for where we are. I think both teams are right now somewhere between 20 and 40 in the Nation, and it'll be a great chance for us to see where we stack up. Hoya Saxa.

Dick Sheridan used to do a spoof of the mindless garbage that Hitler used to spout out to his adoring Nazis. He did this mainly in the cafeteria, but also at the game and the animal section would answer heil. Trouble was the NYU had many Jewish students and it was looked at as a mocking of NYU. But it was not directed at NYU. In retrospect I can see why NYU and the sports writers in NY were offended. But I always saw it as a condemnation of the mentality that the Nazis served up.

ahoya at 72 I would not be able to put a ball fake on Campbell and get by him, so you are a better man than I. If I could stay on my feet after a ball fake I would be lucky.
