As my high school mock trial coach used to say:
"How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."
Here's to the first bite!

Kenpom preseason ranks USC Upstate 239.
For comparison Radford was 251 at this time last year, but ended the year 222.
He gives us a 96% chance to win and predicts a score of 81-62.
However his model currently estimates our pace to be 70.4 possessions a game which would be 215th nationally. There's a good chance we exceed that. Last year's pace was 69.0 which ended up being 168th nationally. Interestingly if we did average 70.4 that would've been good for 95th last year.
Kenpom predicts the spartans to finish 6th in an 8 team Atlantic Sun.
Last year USC upstate finished 324th overall and were horrendous on defense 342nd and bad on offense 246th. The only things they did well was offensive rebound (61st nationally) and not get blocked (38th nationally). The other area they're not bad in is 3pt shooting where they shot 35.7% as a team They played mostly zone on defense.
They don't draw a lot of fouls 314th last year, they don't force a lot of turnovers 330th, and they turn it over a lot themselves 296th. Also while they're good at getting their own misses as I stated above, they give up just as many chances on the other end 275th.
They were really young last year 326th in experience. Hence they're expected to make a leap forward. They only had one senior last year and while he was a starter they return everyone else from their rotation.
Interestingly their go to guy is a 6'11 now senior. He was a great rebounder, shot blocker, and back to the basket player. Sounds like Jessie will have his hands full, but could be good as Jessie will either draw him away from the rim or will be left wide open to drain perimeter shots.
Another interesting quirk they play in the second smallest gym in Division I. Their gym holds 837 people.

HSB- thanks for the info! To me this game seems very appropriate for an opener. The Hoyas just need to come out and do their part.

I think I probably speak for more than just myself when I say that I am just glad we have a game tomorrow and the season is beginning. And with each new season, there's always hope and possibility that enables us to move beyond the less positive aspects of last season (hopefully). Generally, I'm not a big fan of winter (living in the northeast), but one bright spot is always that college basketball season starts.
As super-fans, we all have a tendency to take things a bit too seriously at times, but in the end, we all love Georgetown, we want our team to succeed, and 2016-2017 brings a new beginning, which will hopefully start by stomping USC-Upstate tomorrow. I'm ready!

We need to squash these upstarts. The stank of last year's defense needs to be purged from our gym before the big games. 10 or more steals (Mulmore, Pryor, Peak), 8 or more blocks (Bradley, Jessie, Akoy), under 40% shooting (everyone), fewer than 40 points total (everyone) and just a general "not in our house" performance from the reconstituted G-fense.

I think under 40 points total is unrealistic, especially if we are truly committed to an up-tempo game.
And I REALLY hope that Bradley does not contribute to our total blocks, or we will be in some serious trouble with the NCAA.

As for uptempo, thatnis only when we have the ball;-)

Anyone not in the DC area worried they won't be able to find this on their cable provider? Think I have a problem, looking for ideas.

OmaHoya, I don't know which provider you use but it's listed on DirecTv in the NE on YESHD, MASN2HD, FSSOHD, SUNHD, RTPTHD, STOHD, FSNORHD, FSMWHD, FSSWHD, FSAZHD, PTHD and FSSDHD. I haven't a clue what most of those channels are but I hope, for your sake, that one is available in your area. Additionally, if you have a Fire Stick and you install Kodi on it, it's very possible that you'll find a stream there.

I think after last season, very little should be taken for granted.
My hope is we play faster. We foul less We draw more fouls
Through all the bs of last year, I believe these were the biggest issues.
