Kenner's great for making evaluations of skills players have improved and that sort of thing and rating guys on the offensive side of the ball. Trying to judge defense at all is fairly impossible. Trying to create season expectations (Sweet Sixteen!? Really?) out of Kenner League -- and one in which players don't even play with each other anymore -- is insane. also shout out to everyone saying Trey Mourning was one of our top five players after like two solid Kenner League games...

It's called being a fan. (FAN-atic) I will be SHOCKED: if Rodney Pryor isn't one of the best players in the Big East (Off & Def), if the Hoyas aren't one of the top teams in the Big East, If Jagan Mosely isn't one of the best freshmen in the Big East, If our disappointing Super Soph's don't bounce back and realize their potential as juniors and I will be shocked if we don't trounce the MD turtles @ the Verizon Center.......I could be wrong though.

Thanks for the great updates everyone. Any update on how Paul looked? Paul improved this KL with speed and comfort with really nice play in the semi-final on Saturday. HIs hustle wasn't to his full speed yet, but his speed and movement improved. The raised eyebrow was he didn't come back in an play at all in the 2nd half of the final. His outside shooting, passing, and rebounding that we really missed last season were all in good form. So there is that good news.

Trying to create season expectations (Sweet Sixteen!? Really?) out of Kenner League -- and one in which players don't even play with each other anymore -- is insane. Of course you are absolutely right SF. No dispute. That said, after our disastrous season, and given all the talent on the team - including the new guys, and the outsize expectations on JT3 (maybe even more on himself) to get things turned around in a hurry, I will be disappointed if we don't challenge for the BE title and make the Sweet Sixteen. Hey, call me unrealistic, say there's no basis, restate KL is meaningless, remind us all how many years it's been since we made the Sweet Sixteen (aaaauuuuggghhhh!!!) - you'd be right about all of that. Nonetheless, I look at PEAK and PRYOR, Mulmore, Derrickson, Cope, KJ and the rest? And I see a team that can be very successful. Heck, JT3 took us to a Sweet Sixteen in his second year. It's time to get there again. HOYA SAXA BABY!!!

It will be hard to make any predictions without knowing whether JTIII is, in fact, going to change the offensive playing style. If we do move to an up-tempo, guard-oriented, spread pick and roll, "space and pace" type offense - then we should be a top 25 team, with the potential to reach the second weekend if we don't play a lousy game in the tournament. But if we continue playing through the center handling the ball at the foul line much of the time - we'll be wasting a lot of our talent and would likely be a more borderline NCAA tournament team. All indicators are that we are changing the offensive scheme - but I don't think I'll actually believe it until I see it in a real game! The real problem is that our defense - and fouling - was the primary factor in our poor performance last year. I am not saying the offense was good - it wasn't, but the defense was even worse. And our incessant tendency to give opponent double digit edges on free throw attempts (and often 20+ more) basically made it impossible for us to win. If the defense and fouling don't get cleaned up, we aren't going to go far, regardless of what offense we put out on the floor.

The D was a Huge problem last year but so was chemistry. DSR was never a good defender but he had guys like Jabril to save him. Last year I don't think some guys were that interested/capable in helping him. That shouldn't be a problem this year.
On another note since Kenner is over I'll bring up something I noticed. I was at the game where DSR made his debut for Clydes which of course was led by LJ. I am not saying they froze DSR out but they sure weren't looking for him. The next weekend he was playing for Tombs and he got his shots/points.

Couldn't agree more SirSaxa! Call me crazy but I look at Pryor and see a guy that can counteract a guy like Josh Hart. If you can slow him down Nova really isn't all that dangerous. Obviously Jenkins is really good too, but he's an easier cover IMO and I think our supporting cast is stronger than theirs. I can't imagine we get blown out by anyone this year like we have the last few years at times. Peak and Pryor should push for 1st team BE honors and I'd be very surprised if one didn't get them. Really if we can't get back to the Sweet 16 this year when will we again? This has to be our best shot within the next 2-3 years considering we lose Pryor after this year and possibly Peak. Additionally, at the moment we don't have any studs signed up in the '17 or '18 classes. That can obviously change but at the moment it's the truth. I'm all in on this year. Compete for the BE title, get back to the tournament and get to the second week and reestablish Georgetown's rightful place in college basketball

What else are we supposed to do on a college basketball message board in August? I don't expect to stop it, but I can also anticipate the thread when this team is not a Top 16 team and people are basically citing Kenner as a reasonable guide for expectations. Rodney Pryor sounds great. Mulmore sounds like a player. Derrickson seems like he's improved. Jagan seems like he has a good long term future. But we had a lot of issues from last year that are seemingly still around, and until I see Isaac Copeland put together six straight possessions without spacing or a center play effective defense without fouling or the team actually look like a team out there ... I find it hard to put any kind of real expectation on the team. It could come together, but last year's team could have come together. I'll wait and see if everyone actually looks like they are working towards the same goal.

Of course you are right SF - but summer is the season of hopes and dreams, for 16 year old boys and for college sports fans.

Video starts with the IKE Mul vs Jagan RP and Doc ... Enjoy Paul vs Jessie and LJ in the next game. The move by Jessie at about 4:45 in is something new.. Paul looked good also nice to see him start to get back to his old self..

PW, Mulmore & Jagan will improve the transition passing on this team by a huge amount this season, all 3 seem to be natural ball movers..
Folks who want to see a faster style of play, being better in the transition game is a good place to start..
