Agreed on White - no way is he on the bench given his skill set. Kenner League is no indication of what he can do for this team. JT3 knows he brings versatility to the offense. He gets the game and would be foolish to keep him on sidelines. Eh, there's a lot of mediocre players right now. We'll see if anyone steps up. Paul can play the 3 or 4 -- I know some think the 2, but I doubt it. That means he's competing with Isaac, Marcus, Pryor as well as potentially Kaleb and Mourning as well. Also, perhaps Agau. There's a lot of bodies and I can see a bunch of them coming out on top.

Meaningless lineup predictions based on early Kenner play. We're not gonna play more than 9 regularly (10+ mpg), so... Mulmore, Pryor, Peak, Copeland, Derrickson, Hayes, Govan -- All get significant minutes. JM, RP, Peak, Ike, Hayes start game 1 Biggest lineup/rotation question marks right now: Campbell OR Mosely (One gets backup guard minutes, the other sits. Possible both guys get regular minutes, but that likely means next pair would be out of rotation.) Mourning OR Johnson (It's a numbers game w/ these guys. Both look good, but are still likely behind first 7 above. I think Kaleb has more unique game for our roster - traditional college 3, solid D. Might depend on the extent of Trey's improvement. There's room for Trey if the guys listed below aren't gonna be a factor.) Outside the regular rotation: CameronWhiteAgauWhite and Agau don't seem healthy, and Cameron shouldn't be needed at the 3 and is low man on the 4-spot totem. If this was actually based upon KL play then Mourning would be in the top four. Is that based on what you've seen at Kenner, or on reports you've read? There seems to be a wide variety of opinions on Trey's performance so far.

There seems to be a wide variety of opinions on Trey's performance so far. Obviously based on what I read. And there hasn't really been a wide variety of opinions on Mourning's play this summer in the KL, not from the three Hoya sites I visit as well as the chatter on twitter. There has been one negative or unimpressive reaction to those who have seen his play this summer and that was from one guy (not saying his opinion is any less valid) who saw him play one time in which just so happened to have been Mourning's least impressive outing so far. Whether that becomes more of the norm of Mourning's play going forward in Kenner or simply end up being a sort of outlier is yet to be determined. Me personally I'm really liking what I'm hearing as of now.

If this was actually based upon KL play then Mourning would be in the top four. That being said are you actually having Mourning and Johnson as competing against each other for minutes? One guy can play the two position while the other is likely to play the four. I love both of their games (been a big proponent of both) but if III can't find more minutes for Mourning than he can for Johnson then we have a problem. If White is healthy he plays. He has the best all around game arguably and is the team's most gifted passer. Mosely looks like he may have a great future ahead of him but I don't think he'll get many minutes this season. That should be one of the easier calls for III. There are too many players ahead of the kid and besides he is only a frosh anyway. Agree. I don't know what III will do, but I know what I would do. Last year was terrible, so I'd start this season with absolutely no expectations and no history. No one has earned a starting spot. No one started last year -- best players play as if they are all freshmen this year. There are some players assumed by many to be starters that won't be the best guy at their position -- or perhaps even the second best. III needs to be ruthless in his PT if he wants a good team. I completely agree with this sentiment. Ruthless and adaptable.

I don't intend that to mean that it should go so far as nailing a proven, but slumping, player to the bench but the guys getting it done should nearly always get the nod depending assuming favorable match-ups.

Paul White got game! No way is he a mediocre player. Wise up and realize what we got! Couldn't agree more Gotgame2! When completely healthy, Paul White is the real deal! Oh, good lord. Paul White hasn't played in a year. I am a huge fan of Paul, but he's coming off a serious injury and even as a freshmen, he didn't do anything to do deserve a rating of above average yet. I think he's a very heady player and showed a ton of flashes and I think he can be very good. But there's no evidence he's there yet. My bigger point was this: this team was not good last year. At best, it was mediocre. At worst, it was pretty bad. But either way, pretending that any player on the Hoyas has proven themselves as a clearly above average player is not right. There's potential there, but aside from maybe Peak, I wouldn't put that label on anyone. Gotta play both sides of the ball. Gotta show up most games. I'm seeing prospective lineups here with players tagged for a lot of minutes that were the core of last year's team, and I'm struggling to see why anyone would want that, barring massive improvement. We only have a ton of "depth" because no one has seized the reins, yet.

Yes, I agree. But I guess what I was saying was this: no one is proven to be deserving of 30 minutes on an NCAA team on this team. The two best players from our last NCAA team are gone -- both blasted by the fanbase at times, but both vastly more consistently effective than what we have now. We have a lot of potential. But I'm personally in a prove-it mindset at this point. Maybe aside from Peak -- who I really like offensively now but the fouling and inability to stay on the court makes me temper my expectations.

Fair enough. Personally, I think LJ was the best player by the end of last year. Regardless, I agree with you. All of the guys have to earn their minutes. No free passes for anyone.

Side note but worth mentioning, as most fans know RP is 24 but Mulmore is also pretty mature as he turned 22 in April or May. That makes Mulmore older than Hayes who will turn 22 this year. Don't know what this means on the court but it's a huge contrast from last years team if they play the minutes most are expecting them to. You go from one of the youngest teams in conference to one of the oldest in a year.
Hopefully it leads to us playing a more mature brand of basketball this year. Higher IQ plays, more communication on defense and greater accountability overall. The most successful teams have coaches on the floor as well as on the sidelines obviously..

As of right now, I think the best starting five we could put on the floor is Mulmore, Peak, Pryor, Derrickson, and either Copeland or Govan.
I expect the starting five on opening night to be Mulmore, Peak, Pryor, Copeland and Hayes.

Any changes to starting line up now that we have a good sample size at Kenner? My starting 5 hasn't changed since April, but my depth chart has with paul dropping down the ranks and Mosely rising.
Mulmore Pryor Peak Copeland Govan
Derrickson Hayes johnson mosely Campbell White Cameron Mourning Agau

Mulmore Pryor Peak Copeland Govan Derrickson Hayes johnson mosely Campbell White Cameron Mourning Agau Looks solid but I think Marcus could make an argument. I don't think Paul and Agau are really in the discussion right now since both appear far from 100%. Think the bigger question is how you/other posters think minutes will be distributed.

I doubt the whole bench will be used as other folks were initially stating before Kenner. I see only 9 getting regular rotation minutes max.

Wasn't just other people, it was the coach himself. In the same interview he also cast doubt on anyone averaging 30 or more minutes per contest.

I am lighting candles and working my ouija board in favor of the fourteen-man rotation with hockey-like substitutions that I so desire...
I would love to see ten or more subs in and out by the 15:00 mark of the first half and then continue at that pace.

I can't see how we don't at least go 11 deep. Even if Agau, mourning and white never see the court....you know that Campbell and Cameron will get some minutes. Hard time envisioning anything less than an 11 man rotation...its wierd, I know.
