Solid win on the road. Not a good St. John's team but we took care of business and kept my blood pressure low all game. My heart thanks you for the break.

Final Thoughts:1. This was a dominant performance from the out set as the Hoyas never trailed. 2. From the 8:24 mark in the 1st half, St. Johns never got the lead back to under 11pts 3. Only 3 Hoyas scored in double-digits, DSR 31 pts, Cameron 15 pts, Campbell 12pts 4. Every Hoya who played scored, except for LJ Peak 0 pts, 0/1 FG's, Nice showing tonight, with the team clicking on all cylinders against a very, very bad St. Johns team. The Hoyas took it to the Red Storm from the start and never looked back. Furthermore, Gtown never allowed St. Johns to believe. Grade: A By far this was the best offensive showing this season. and the teams highest output of 93 pts for the season Great tuneup game for what should be a great game vs a top 10 team Onto #6 Villanova on Saturday thanks for the signature shoutout. Good analysis, hopefully we can play a whole game on Saturday, I expect LJ to score more then tonight (although that's not saying much!). Easy to look good against a team in St John's state.

Don't know if this has been reported, but Marcus should be fine and ready to play against nova.

Plus/minus for tonight's game, as calculated from the Gametracker play-by-lay at guhoyas.com: Smith-Rivera +33, Cameron +24, Copeland +17, Campbell +10, Hayes +10, Govan +5, Peak +1, Mourning -2, Johnson -3, Williams -6, Derrickson DNP, White DNP. The plus/minus for Campbell, Copeland, Johnson, Williams and Mourning took an eleven point hit down the stretch, when the Johnnies cut the deficit down as low as 14. Interesting that DSR was exactly at his points scored. Definitely carried us to the win (with the help of Reggie and a little bit from others).

Hard to see what has happened to the St Johns program, but I was impressed with the consistency the Hoyas showed tonight. I went into the second half thinking there was no way the Hoyas would maintain their intensity but I was so pleased to see the team stay focused and crush the Johnnies. DSR was fabulous tonight, exactly what he can be more often for this team. Everyone contributed and the defense was effective, even if the competition was lower than expected. Good effort all night and the Hoyas kept their strong play going in MSG. Great tune-up for Saturday. We are in business if the Hoyas can take down Nova on Saturday.

I thought the way the guy Casual interviewed said it was great. Ha. "Once upon a time, a head coach recruited some really great players when he was motivated. But he was sick, lost out on some recruits, and decided that the answer was to eat great TriBeCa dinners and reach for players of sometimes dubious character or talent, all while waiting for the next big score like a gambler. (Did you know he is lobbying for the now-open UNLV job? Apropos.)" So now there are some talented young players who are just young sometimes."

The cupboard was pretty bare when Mullin accepted the job. For most of the games I've seen, he has them playing hard and that's not the easiest thing to do when there is little in the way of winning happening. I feel like this game would have looked a bit different if Sima had been available to play as he's a big loss for them in the middle. Then again, we were without Marcus all game and LJ for a good part of it so maybe it comes out in the wash. I think Mullin has a better shot than anyone else to turn that program around considering where it was at when he took the job. No one with his name, and certainly not with his local/school rep, would take that job.
Nice win by the Hoyas. Let's roll. Marquette currently giving Nova all they can handle....

I was watching on DVR delay, and admittedly scanned thru the 4th quarter, but did Brando and Turner ever even once mention Derrickson? Those guys have done plenty of GU games this season, made much of Cameron getting a start and White being out for the season, but somehow never bothered to tell us if Doc was even in the building. Why are they even there?
That aside, it was good to see an easy win on the road, and it sounds like Doc will be ok. Now they need a big scalp on Saturday.

No. But at one point they thought Bradley Hayes was derrickson when Hayes checked into the game.

Love the comradery and easy going banter on the board tonight. Keep us this civility, Hoyadom.
On a serious note, the way to cruise to victory! Almost the DSR show. Didn't see any "personnel issues" tonight. Trey seems to be getting quite buff. He also seems quite confident out there on the floor. I'm not too worried about Cope at this point; he's obviously in a shooting slump. His defensive game and aggression, like I said the other night still makes him valuable out there.
Love the way we controlled the tempo. I was looking for a battle from the Johnnies. Thought for sure Mullins would have sat them down in the weeks before the game and given them a history lesson. Ah well, I guess we all just have to kick back and savor this one. The pepto bismol can remain on the shelf for a couple of days.

Is Govan ever going to miss a FT? But he really needs to strengthen his hands. Too many rebounds and passes went through his hands. Too late to get a Mike Sweetney hand transplant?

I was at the game tonight, about 10 rows behind the St. John's bench. I realize I was probably deep within the St. John's season ticket area, but while the crowd wasn't huge, they had quite a few dedicated fans. Many of the fans were men in their 50s/60s, which isn't shocking, especially with Mullin coming back into the program. When the starters and coach were announced at the beginning, Mullin got the best ovation.
A lot is said about chemistry. Admittedly, these are my observations based on what I saw, but I didn't see anything notable that would indicate chemistry problems at all. The guys were generally smiling, commenting to one another, and happy for one another at the success. It's true that our current group may not be as outwardly effusive as people like Trawick and Tyler Adams were, but I didn't see anything concerning at all.
In the second half, our defense was right in front of me. I tried to watch closely. It wasn't perfect, but on individual possessions, DSR showed some very nice defense, and the same is true of Isaac. It isn't necessarily consistent, but it's there. That tells me there's some potential for our defense to get better. But, considering that St. John's is so awful, I am not sure it's that meaningful.
The fouls are still a problem. St. John's fouled a lot too, so it was pretty balanced (unless you consult the St. John's fan who thought every call against them had to be wrong), but we really need to work on that. Some of the fouls were nitty, some were just bad on the part of our players.
In sum, I am oddly optimistic for Saturday's game. I do think we pretty much need to bring the best offense and defense on Saturday to have a chance, but I think it's certainly possible.

Great game tonight. I'm happy that JT3 is finally using the press (1/2/2 & man) consistently for long stretches of the game. They played exactly how you are suppose to play against an inferior opponent. Vital stretch of the schedule we are entering. Need to win these games if the team wants any shot at an at worse "At Large Bid" into the NCAA tournament, unless they win the BE Tournament.

Wow...a crazy minute distribution tonight.
With all the talent on our team, I have been expecting something like this more often.
How many had Williams and Mourning with the same or more minutes than Peak?

So glad that Reggie and (to some extent) Jessie had big games in front of family and friends.

Enjoyed the game and the result. However, this was my 5th trip to MSG for the Hoyas/St. John's match-up and until later in the second half with the technical fouls stirring up the crowd, the place seemed like games at the Verizon Center in December. Really kind of depressing atmosphere most of the night.
As for the game, DSR's play continues to improve and the shooting touch was back. It was evident that Copeland is clearly frustrated with his shooting--some of his shots seem very flat to me, almost as if the higher he jumps the less the arc. Nevertheless, the kid is playing as hard or harder on defense as anyone on the floor. The effort will be rewarded. Cameron and Govan had friends/family there yelling. The St, John's fans around me had little regard for the Hoyas at the outset and as the game wore on they were mostly discussing powerball and crediting only DSR for the effort and win. The intentional foul on Govan in the second half was not far from us and I really thought the kid was hurt. He rubbed his shoulder and chest area for several minutes after that as he ran up and down the court. Also saw the coaches asking him about it during a timeout. Does not seem to be serious but I am sure he is going to be sore today.
Overall it was a good win, good experience for the bench players and hopefully a breakout for DSR to go on one of his hot streaks. I hope that St. Johns comes back soon though for the sake of the conference.

Wow...a crazy minute distribution tonight. With all the talent on our team, I have been expecting something like this more often. How many had Williams and Mourning with the same or more minutes than Peak? The distribution was nice to see. Coach always starts the year talking about how deep the team is, and then we often see a very staid 8-man rotation. Obviously this was a comfortable win, but can't forget Williams got run in the first half and so did Trey. Here's the scary part though, we literally used every available player last night and that's only 10 guys. We know Paul is done for the year now, so this is certainly on my mind moreso now that we've seen what happens when Marcus gets hurt (besides the obvious of Reggie going HAM...). A lot of the posts have referenced what a sorry SJU team this is. Undoubtedly true, but the bigger picture takeaway for me is that we manhandled a sorry team the way you're supposed to if you're a tournament team. It gives me hope that we'll take care of our business the rest of the way in the games that we're supposed to and legitimately compete in the at least 10 monster games remaining on our schedule. I don't think 12-13 wins is out of the realm of possibility here factoring in split series and TCOB, and if they click like last night, who knows. I'm back on board the delusion train pending Saturday.

We were up by 27 points I think when JTIII took DSR out of the game - with about 5 mins to play. St. John's hit some shots and we turned it over/fouled and they whittled it down to 14 with a couple of mins to go. Then DSR went back in to seal it and win by 20. Nice to see everybody get minutes but that one stretch was pretty shaky. With Marcus back we will have a solid 9 man rotation.
