Copeland is not an NBA player at this point. I doubt he gets drafted in the second round at this point. His best bet is to stay at least one more year, hopefully have a consistent and successful year next year and if he gets to the point where he is considered a first round pick then he should consider leaving early. At this point he is not going to get any guaranteed money from the NBA and is likely to be in the D league.
I think he has the potential to be an NBA player and you see that potential for brief periods, but he needs to become much more consistent with his shot and his effort. He is good enough that he needs to have an impact on the game on both ends of the floor on every possession he is in the game. He just disappears way too often.

Pretty much any pick in the second round is a wasteland. If he's not projected first round and he has two years left in college then his choice is very simple. Provided he goes to class every now and then.

Jessie ahead of guys like Meeks is really nice. Lot's to work with there. If he works on his body this offseason he could have a very very good sophomore campaign. I remember speaking to JT3 at an event last spring where he told me "We'll be lucky to have Govan for two years." Guess coach knows a thing or two about evaluating talent.

Boy I wish I was as sold on Govan as others, apparently including JT3, are. Granted he was a "young" freshman. But I just don't see the quickness, strength, or athleticism of other BE big men or even our NBA big men. Did I forget to mention hands? He does seem to have a nice outside shot from the top of the key but I just don't see him as the rim protector, rebounder, or passer that would warrant a high level of enthusiasm for next year. I hope I'm wrong because without a force in the paint next year we could being big trouble.

If he just lets things come to him a bit more, he should be fine, because he had very good instincts for where the ball would be, he just seemed to rush the NEXT move a lot of times.

I think that's a good thing, it's as if we're molding a 17 year old ha junior/senior who has the skills to compete in the BE. Think about where his game PROJECTS once his body actually catches up to his age. He has the base, but he's definitely a below the rim player. He has A LOT of strength training to do though, it'll improve him leaps and bounds.

Jessie's hands are normal hands. When he was in line shaking hands with fans, one of the fans got up and he said "Mr. Govan, you have strong hands. You have good-sized hands." And then another would say, "You have great hands, Mr. Govan, I had no idea." He said, "What do you mean?" The fan said, "I though you were like deformed, and I thought you had small hands." He had fifty people . . . Is that a correct statement? I mean people were writing, "How are Mr. Govan's hands?" Jessie's hands are fine. You know, his hands are normal. Slightly large, actually. In fact, he buys a slightly smaller than large glove, okay?
I don't want people to go around think that Jessie has a problem. I'm telling you, Jessie had so many people. I would say 25, 30 people would tell him . . . every time he'd shake people's hand "Oh you have nice hands." Why shouldn't he? And, by the way, by saying this I solved the problem. Nobody questions . . . he even held up his hands, and said "Look, take a look at that hand."

In all seriousness as he matures gains experience and adds strength hopefully his hands improve... Think his ability to catch tough passes and hold on to the ball are better than they showed this year... Just really tough for a big to go from a NY HS City league to the BE.. Nobody close to his size or skill to compete against..

I think Chep3 didn't understand what is meant by bad hands as it relates to sports in general and basketball in particular. It doesn't mean there is something physically wrong with someone's hands it means he hasn't learned how to effectively use them to catch, protect, and pass a basketball. I think everyone who watched Jesse this year was shocked at how easily he lost the ball (had it either tipped or yanked from him) how hard it was for him to grab and control rebounds, and how bad he was at finding and hitting open cutters. Some guys had great hands from day one. Mike Sweetney comes to mind. Some developed good hands over time, e.g. Rony Hibbert. Lets hopeJesse can too.

That's basically what Trump said in his interview with the Post yesterday.

Coach Cal may not be that great of an x&o guy but he continues to show why he can go after those 5* players time and time again and can pull them, he said that any eligible player on the current roster will submit to the NBA under the new rules (and thus be eligible to return). many a kid will love that. and for any coach you are basically getting your kids additional training under the watchful eyes of professionals who will also encourage these young men to work on certain parts of their game. if I were a college coach and had potentially that level of players I would do the same. just smart motivation and free training. I would encourage each on our current roster for next year to take advantage of the workouts and critique.

You really think that some walk-on at UK is going to get invited to the combine? You think an NBA is going to fly out a bench player from Georgetown for a workout?

one point being it that coach Cal said it and is now is out there as news in the twitterverse; young high players hear such, it sounds good, they want to be apart of that, it does not have to be accurate for those young minds (not viewed from the point of the older experienced thought process), just make the needed impression during recruiting. another reason some are further ahead in that processes. don't have to be accurate just sounds good at the right time.
