This season LJ is shooting .483% from the floor overall compared to last season's .394%. He is shooting .403% from the three compared to last season's .246%. He is making .773% of his FTs which is better than the .701% he made last season. He is averaging 11.5 points per contest which of course is better than last season's 7.9 and he is doing this despite averaging about a minute less than on the court than the previous year. He has also managed to increase his rebounds, assists and blocks from his first season. Now when you concentrate just on Peak's performance in the Big East this season those numbers sky even higher. He is shooting .514% overall in BE play and an amazing .450 from the three point range! Last season his numbers actually dropped in conference play, including his three-point shooting which was a woeful .171%. In BE play this season his scoring also increases to 12.9. The kid is doing work. Not trying to compare him to Kris Dunn but I noticed that Peak only averages 7.8 field goal attempts while Dunn, who is supposed to be a point guard mind you, is averaging 13.4 per contest (which doesn't take into the count all the shot attempts wiped out because he was fouled and sent to the line). So I'll ask..how much better could Peak be if he was more aggressive like that or at least on a team that encouraged such aggressive individualism? Would he be worse? Would you ever want Peak to average around 13 shots per game? I actually wish he was a lot more aggressive. He should be the focal point of this teams offense. The offense seems to work a whole lot better when the ball is in his hands. The last game against Providence was the first time I can remember him getting off to a slow start and still staying somewhat aggressive. Peak was 1/5 in the 1st half and 4/7 in the 2nd half. I was praying and screaming at the TV on that last play of the game for DSR to give the ball back to Peak. Based on the numbers from that game and how everyone played DSR was the last person who should have been looking to shoot. Peak may not be a full fledge playmaker for others yet, but he has the ability to do it as he showed in getting DSR his only FG on the kick out pass as LJ was driving to the basket. I was hoping the team would have ran some kind of action where if Peak didn't have an open look coming of a high screen then a kick out pass to a DSR, Copeland, Cameron or the Derrickson could have opened up based of Peak coming off his high screen. I believe the ball should be in Peak's hands 75-80% of the time as he should be the one to initiate the offensive actions and DSR and Tre should either be coming off a weak side screen or spotting up/relocating for open perimeter looks. The ball in Peak's hands is this teams best chance to win. "Help us LJ Peak! Your the only one that can save us."

I think if he stays, that will actually be what LJ is next year. He has taken a big step up this year (if only our other sophs had done this at the same time, although Ike seems to be clicking a lot better the past 2 weeks), and I think the progression will continue. I don't think our offense is what has held him back, I believe he is deferring to the senior leading scorer, and he should probably be hunting a lot more if we are to salvage the end of the season (which I think, in turn, would actually HELP DSR, because he wouldn't have to worry about involving others, and could just get on with scoring himself).

Peak's scoring numbers actually compare pretty favorable to Dunn's first two years, and aren't light years away from his junior year, either (Dunn averaged just under 5 attempts per game his first two seasons, although his second was cut short, obviously). I think next year could see LJ as a first team All-Big East performer. He should start the campaign right now, with our injury problems!

I did not understand all of the hype about LJ last year, especially since he seemed to be regressing as the season wore on (my recollection). But man, love what he has done this year. As noted above, the numbers speak for themselves. Kid has gotten way better in every facet of the game, and has been clutch. Despite DSR...might vote for him as team MVP this year.

LJ should definitely come back next season, he will be the focal point of the offense and our leading scorer. I have been very impressed with how he has gotten better as the year has progressed and the competition has picked up. He appears to be more comfortable in the more defined role of sixth man off the bench. Like any good sixth man, he is providing energy and scoring.
Since coming off the bench seems to have helped him, I would not mess with it for the remainder of this season. However, he should be taking more minutes from Campbell. I agree with SaxaCD that LJ should be bringing the ball up more, it does free up DSR to find scoring position and LJ actually provides a legit threat to take it to the basket.

LJ's been great. Even when he was struggling, it was important for him not to lose his aggressiveness. It can hurt the team, but the solution for a player like LJ -- who could get to the rim but couldn't finish -- is not to dial back the one strength his game had (on offense), but to improve the other elements of his game to exploit it.
He's much better at decision-making, finishing and shooting this year. Tons of improvement and I'd love to see him push further -- though I don't think he's leaving a ton of made shots on the table except maybe on the break.
Defensively the same is true. He's got to improve positioning and technique. He shouldn't be less of a defender, he just needs to get better. And that can take time.

i am salivating at the prospect of copeland and peak coming back next year. with paul white back and trey gaining confidence through playing time, it would be an interesting team with only cameron as a senior. also, kinda glad to know that paul was never really healthy this year, because many of us were concerned over his performance in the limited time he actually played this year. knew something had to be wrong.

Tough season for the team but some quick notes on how stellar LJ was in BE play 25 MPG Oo 13.7 ppg 57% from 2 43% from 3 52% overall 79.4% ft 3.8rbds 2 assts Ortg 119 Scored in double figures in each of the last 16 games 10-18 from 3 the last 5 games of the season Against teams that finished top 5 in conference he averaged 16ppg. _______ Shooting numbers are close to elite, and equally good at the rim or behind the arc. Shot well from 3 (best on the team) but didn't settle taking 60% of his shots from inside the arc. The 25mpg are a killer if you increase his numbers to 32mpg he would be around 17ppg. The way he finished looks like a player ready to take that next step to being a dominant elite top 5 player in conference... Kid is going to be a major problem And he's a good kid...

It's his team next season. He is going to be our go to scorer and leader. I think he's ready to take the next big step. He looked great down the stretch even as the rest of the backcourt was melting down.

Down the stretch this year, LJ started to do some of the stuff he did regularly in high school and in Kenner league games. When he goes into attack mode, he is tough to stop. He needed some experience to learn the nuances of using his athleticism against better players/coaching. But he has clearly figured this out now. He should be playing at least 32 minutes a game and scoring 17+ points per game next year. He may even be able to score more than that if Thompson is comfortable giving him full freedom to be the kind of offensive force that we have never really had under JTIII.

The addition of 2 natural facilatators/ball movers in Paul White and Jagan Mosely and maybe another in an upperclass transfer guard will get Peak, Copeland and Govan easier scoring opportunities. Most of Peak's offense this year was self generated very difficult looks. He rarely got easy baskets . Same could be said for Copeland.

Copeland needs to be more than just more aggressive. He needs to work on his handle, work on a postup game, work on his three-point shot and nonetheless try to stick more to a midrange attack in games.

Agree on both counts. Peak will be fine and will improve even more next year with Moseley and White. Copeland-even in the Kenner league it was obvious he had not improved his handle over the summer. When he drove he got stripped and that continued in the regular season. If he improves his handle and defensive awareness he will become more consistent.
We still need rim defense. Govn will be stronger and have better endurance but he needs another body around him. Maybe Agau(? ACL is a tougher recovery in basketball when compared to football) . How many slots do we have open next year?
