What confidence! Love that young man. You can really see that Pat has helped him with his inside game. Lots more confidence in that part of his game. Not only that. Do you believe how well he took the criticism from Ewing? And how much he is soaking up what Ewing is preaching? I particularly like the part where he says that even when Ewing is directing his comments toward Govan, how he is listening and apply it to his own game. Derrickson is special! A real feather in Ewing and Georgetown's cap.

Does anyone here think that we would be seeing this from MD if JT3 were still coach?

Who knows, but I would add that Derrickson had a pretty good Big East season last year, too (he actually played better in the Big East season last year than OOC). Peak and Pryor tended to get the attention, but Derrickson had a quiet good season, too.
Obviously, he has improved this year a lot, though, too. The great thing about Derrickson is that he has continually improved every year he's been at Georgetown. If he continues that into next year, he will be an amazing player for us next year (he's already our best player, easily).
He certainly deserved to be on the Big East honor role this week.

Derrickson shot 63.7% from two last Big East conference season. He had a lot less attempts though - so I am not sure I would say he had no inside game. But, there's no doubt Derrickson's down low game has gotten better since last year, and he's had a lot more shot opportunities since Peak/Pryor aren't here this year. As I said before, he's generally progressed and improved every year. It'll be exciting to see how he improves his senior year.

He had no hook shot, drop step or back to the Calder game last year. Last year he only shot gimme shots from two. I'm sure his percentage was higher but he was not a. Their inside and lacked he skillset and confidence to play down low.

Congrats to Marcus. A great example of a guy working on his game -- not settling for just doing what he thinks he does best. Also, it demonstrates what can be done when a coach demands your best and holds you to your promise to work.

But you need to stop with this. Marcus Derrickson is a completely different player this year. The change from the last two years is astonishing actually. You can continue to suggest that he has "generally progressed and improved every year," but you lose credibility each time you say it (at least in my mind).

Marcus’ game has taken a massive jump since he started working with Ewing. He plays with far more tenacity on each and every play, his defense has him proved, his low post game has now become a strength of his and he is rebounding out of his area. The kid has become a stud and we have all seen how Ewing has challenged him to be better every step of the way. Anyone who suggests otherwise has an agenda of some sort.

In these last couple of games, I really hope MD put his whole range of skills on display. Very under the radar player. For those of us who have watched him develop at GU, we have grown to love this young man and, of course, wish him all the best as a lottery pick at the end of NEXT season.

I know somewhat tongue in cheek, but MD’s consistency on the defensive end needs to take another quantum leap to make him 2nd Rd pick, much less a lottery pick. Right now he can’t guard a single player in the NBA at any position. Love Marcus. Unquestionably our best player (though I’d argue Marko has a much higher ceiling). But he is not a good defensive player at the moment. He’s capable of the occasional great defensive play, but he’s generally a sub-par Big East defender.

Can you imagine how great a player MD would be if we had a Brunson or a DiVincenzo or a Marcus Foster to complement him? Watching Nova you realize their players look so good because their guards always find you if you're open. Our guards? Not so much.
