That's awful news for the kid, definitely a bummer. Only upside is now we should have him for 3 full seasons, rather than 2.5, right?
Really hurts this year's team. Inside depth is going to be a problem.

The info. Akoy gave us Wednesday evening was, along with the torn ACL, his meniscus was also torn and the MCL had been injured but not torn.

Inside depth is going to be a problem. This is a set back by all means but I think we'll be fine in the long run. We have just as many post players as we had last year. Hayes is a force in the paint and with the change to the shot clock he should be grabbing more rebounds this year and getting more easy put backs. With Hayes coming in at a agile 7' 275 lbs he can carve out room in the paint on the offensive side for peak and DSR to slash to the rim. The only true question is will Govan and Mourning be BE ready come conference time. On a side note, I attended Kenner League this year and walked away very impressed by both Govan and Mourning, I know it's just Kenner League but I was still impressed with the team as a whole. I think the three of them can take care of the paint and will probably be better then last year especially in regards to the fouls we handed out.

I had to have physical therapy for a torn meniscus this summer, so I can't image a torn ACL and an injured MCL along with the torn meniscus. The torn meniscus by itself might have not required surgery, but with the ACL surgery, they will probably fix the meniscus as well.

Tore my ACL and MCL in an accident many years ago when I was in the Navy. My orthopedic surgeon was stunned that my meniscus was uninjured. He called the ACL/MCL/Meniscus the "terrible triad." Hope he has a full recovery.

Opportunity likely for a guy like Mourning in all of this. Hope he makes the most of it an Agau can make a full recovery. Bummer!

That is a killer IMO. Don't see a lot of other blue-collar options with his athleticism and size on this roster. Mourning is exponentially slower. Just can't see Hayes or Mourning grabbing meaningful minutes vs. serious teams.
We just cannot catch a break. Maybe Johnson becomes our glue guy now?

How serious of a team does one have to be, Hayes did pretty good in the two tournament games he played in last year and didn't back down against Florida State the year before that in the NIT. As for Mourning, I watched him go head to head with Maryland's Robert Carter in Kenner League play and he did a pretty good job if you add in the fact that Carter has lost weight and added muscle, and is a ACC transfer from Georgia Tech which gives him year worth of experience over Mourning. Not trying to be argumentative but I'll give you credit where credit is due. And in regards to Johnson, I believe he will be our glue guy. He likes to go after rebounds and takes contact, the kid fears no one in the paint. He's a taller version of DRS when it comes to rebounding the ball.

I do not see how Mourning could be exponentially slower than anyone. That exponent is a very small number in any case then. What position is this glue guy anyway? I can't tell if you mean a swingman or a big man or just someone that does dirty work... there's a different answer for each. I feel bad for Agau, just personally, as this many injuries back to back just has to be so discouraging and depressing. But as for the team, the places where we are thinnest are the five and the one. We didn't need minutes at the four, or three, or really even the two, and Agau isn't helping PG depth. So we're talking about the 5. I was hoping Agau could give up minutes there, but Govan + Derrickson + Hayes isn't chopped liver. Maybe Mourning can chip in, though I'm concerned about size, not speed. I cannot see anyway this is a killer. It's a bummer for Agau, and it certainly hurts the team's depth, but it's not a killer.

Hopefully Akoy learned a thing or two from Tyler last year. A guy like that on the bench, while it sucks for the guy in that position, absolutely adds value to his team. Akoy could still be a glue guy in the sense that he can pick up his teammates when they're struggling and point out things to them that he sees from the bench. Awful break for him personally but, if we had to take a season-ending injury, we got very lucky that it came at that position.
