From the high lites I have seen the young man is a scorer like Peak. He gets to the basket and likes to dunk for emphasis. Does not appear to be a 3pt specialist like DSR. Therefore unless Tre and Peak improve on their 3pt accuracy the Hoyas will need such a guard in 2017. Glad the young man is seriously considering the Hoyas though.

Then again these types of stone cold scorers who can hit 40-50 points in a high school game usually become clutch players during the playoffs/tourney time. Look at Anton Gill at Louisville vs NC State leading them to the Elite 8 or LJ's performance against Utah. Travis Best scoring 81 points in high school is another guy. That guy would come up big in the playoffs for the Pacers and had no fear of anyone (including Michael Jordan).

You're right that Burke is the only pg but to me the other players are 2 guards not sf's, if Gill makes it to the NBA it'll be as a 2 guard as well.. How much has VCU been able to capitalize on Maynor sticking in the NBA? How about Wake Forest with Chris Paul? I'm just not a believer in this getting kids to the NBA gets kids theory.. Kids thriving in college gets kids to comitt much more imho.. Gill's HS credentials are in the past, right now he's a kid who has struggled in college.. Could he turn it around absolutely but it's not a lock at all.. Seeing that schools like Nebraska, UAB & East Carolina are the other schools on his list, if he has an offer that he can commit to right now but he needs to think about it then that's not a good look for him or G'town.. If the mid May timetable is true that tells me the staff wants to see what happens with Goss on his visit before taking a commitment from Gill VCU was able to get Kenny Williams over a bunch of high profile schools. Wake Forrest was able to get Jeff Teague who is now in the NBA. As far as Anton Gill, anybody who put the team on their back in crunch time and got Louisville into the Elite 8 seems like someone that any of our teams in the past 5 years could use. He's looking for playing time and an atmosphere he feels comfortable with: Georgetown (His friends Akoy and Copeland) and ECU (His father's alma mater and incidently Copeland's father's alma mater). If reports are true looks like he just has to talk to his family before making the final decison which will come soon. Seems reasonable. Very nice call on Teague Professor, I completely forgot about him playing at Wake.. The Williams/Maynor connection at VCU is far fetched though imo.. Since there are heavy rumors Gill will be coming, I'm all in for him..

His form reminds me of Curtis Staples. I think Anton just needs to get used to the college 3pt distance.

Based really on not much other than a gut feeling, I think this kid just needs a change of scenery. As someone said earlier not everyone thrives in a particular situation. You don't just lose your ability completely unless you're just not motivated to play anymore which clearly doesn't seem to be the case. I'm sure the staff had him play pickup with the guys, I'm sure they've done their due diligence. If they want him on board that's good enough for me. And those bemoaning our scholarship situation, well, we won't be a big time program without stocking up every year. The kids that earn PT will play. You try and bring in the best talent you can get your hands in and make the room (obviously within reason)

The kid is obviously a great athlete. IMHO, you need a lot of great athletes , along with a couple of guys who can really shoot. Shots won't always fall, even for good shooters, so others are needed to score off loose balls, offensive rebounds , steals, fast breaks...unscripted stuff. Not to mention defending! Now, obviously the truly elite have the athleticism and the shooting touch. I've never seen him play in a game, but am glad to add another great athlete to the mix. However, those who think coming to the Hilltop will turn him into a good pure shooter, may have Hoya colored glasses on.

After Teague, Wake also had Ish Smith, a super quick PG, who has been in the NBA the past three years, I believe. In fact, Wake has put a bunch of guys in the NBA the past few years (Aminu and James Johnson as well)..all without making the NCAA tourney!

This may have been mentioned previously on this thread, but wouldn't a commitment from Gill increase the chances that Copeland stays at least two more years? Seems like he'd want to play with his buddy unless he has a huge breakout season and is a certain top couple pick like Otto was... in which case I think we'd all be happy.

However having a 3rd guard signed on the roster for 2016 season allows them to focus in on 2016 recruits, identify a couple of guys they really want and put the full court press on them. When the new Asst coaches arrived first order of business was upping the talent level now they have nice pieces, time to round out the roster.

Copeland isn't going to pass up a seven figure annual income because he wants to play another year of college ball with his buddy. If Ike has a great year and has the opportunity to be a lottery pick, he should take it. If so, the Hoyas will have had a great year too. If that opportunity is not there yet, he should return. Getting Gill would give us three guards on the 2016/17 team, Campbell, Gill and Peak. We are after lots of other kids too. As Yaboy said, having those "horses in the barn" would allow the staff to concentrate on "game changers". Assuming Gill does commit, that's great for the following years but still leaves us in need of one more guard for the upcoming year. Otherwise we go into the season with only DSR, Campbell and Peak. As has been mentioned, that allows no leeway for an injury, academic issues, foul trouble, poor play, whatever. The team could enter the season with those three only, but it would be far better to have one more premium ball handler. OF course, that would also necessitate freeing up a schollie somehow as Gill would be taking the last one currently available.

Rothstein just tweeted that Gill is visiting Nebraska on Thursday and is still considering ECU.

It's not the wrong strategy if they think NGW is significantly better than Gill and have reservations about Gill's ability to contribute.
